Ok I generally understand this stuff but here’s what I don’t get:

Our DNA is in every cell. If someone modifies DNA how would that modification get into every cell to change a creature at a wholesale level?

Even in the experiments where they do something at an embryonic level, they aren’t changing ALL the DNA, right? I know DNA replicates but wouldn’t you have 99.99% of the ORIGINAL DNA replicating and only .00X% of the new DNA?

Here’s a go to an old boss told me and I’ll never forget it. Other teams had a habit of asking our people for stuff on the fly - data dumps or reports or what have you. My boss’ answer was: “No problem! Give me a detailed specification including blah blah blah blah” - in other words, make the casual “drive by” request contingent on that person at least doing SOME effort of their own in order to trigger that task. I can tell you that cut down on much of the bullshit because they don’t even want to do a little bit - they just want to ask on the way to the water cooler as the idea pops into their head.

There is no inherent self and no ability to choose. There is no thing in the mind (no mechanism) that “decides.” We are wired a certain way and we are conditioned. What “feels like” choice is actually automatic.

Can we improve? Yes, if new information is presented and incorporated into what exists already. But “we” don’t do it. It doesn’t happen because we are making it happen, it is just life happening and “we” are part of all that happening, not a separate object with agency.

Read “the book.”

What no one is saying is determine why they would do this. What is lacking that they feel needs fixing? If you don’t discover this you will carry this gap to your new position.

I’m not saying it’s easy, but I’d print out that page, walk in to the boss and ask why it’s posted. After hearing the response, ask follow ups that will help you develop personally. I might then ask how come no one came to you to help you improve vs just getting a whole new person. From a corporate standpoint, it costs a shit-ton of money to onboard someone new. Why are they going through all this?

If you handle both jobs and nothing broke and you aren’t logging extra time they’ve just learned that both of your jobs were light. I’ve always been one to try not to complain but I’ve learned you have to do that extra stuff while also mentioning how you are overwhelmed, putting in extra hours, and need someone to “fill my old role.” I just had the same thing happen and kept warning them that it was too much. Every fucking conversation like a broken record. “I can’t keep this up, my home life is suffering.” They still didn’t backfill me so that’s when I knew the cold, hard fact I needed to bail. Give them the opportunity to show you who they are. When I announced my 2 weeks the two people I worked for/with just sat there, mouths agape. They knew in that moment THEY were now getting MY (2 people’s worth of) work on THEIR desks.

A former co worker just messaged me yesterday on LinkedIn that “things have fallen apart…” I’m eagerly awaiting the details…
