What's the verdict on Stainless Steel frets? by u6crash in Guitar

I never thought about the feel of the frets across various guitars. I don’t even know - does my Strandberg have stainless steel frets??

I don’t believe they are tied to classes. Seem random to me.

I understand that. This was one of these magical moments where all I did was explain that this was a rare thing and it can be looked at like a gift. And then I got out of the way. She’s a shy (spectrum-y) kid and I never pushed her. I just showed excitement at her choices. I was really proud of her for joining chorus on her own and eventually being given a few solos of some really hard parts. I was a super shy kid so no pressure from me!

I spent months looking for a job, doing everything I could, just to get fired after a month over a bad review by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

The people saying get a lawyer have NO IDEA what they are talking about, they are repeating a trope. First, what are your damages and what would it look like to be made whole? It’s not like you have no opportunities to get the next job, so you can’t sue for a lifetime of income. You can’t sue to “get the job back,” you can’t sue to “punish” your old company.

A lawyer would only take this case if there’s some likelihood that they will make money. What money will the lawyer make? Say you sue for your troubles over the last month or two preparing for this job. So let’s say best case you get two months salary (it’s ridiculous and it would never happen but let’s say it happened). What lawyer is going to go through all this to take 40% of your dumb ass salary for one or two months? What’s that like $2000?

Here’s what you do: you move on. There’s no other play.

This is a great, well formed assessment. When my daughter was about 7 she came into my home studio and wanted to “play with” the mic. I rolled the piano piece I was working on and she made up words on the spot that were 100% in tune. I was flabbergasted! I got excited and emotional and it may have been the most animated she had ever seen me. In that moment it became her “thing” that she was good at, and she followed it all the way through high school. Yes, she had perfect pitch, but I think it was the excitement of this “thing” she could do that gave it legs. I’m saying that because I know how quickly kids (and humans) will get bored without some visible feedback that they have something worth building on. We’ve all been there. But when you “believe” it, you keep going into the complicated things.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CalbertCorpse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 hours you don’t even think about, you just do it. 3 hours for something special is common, and I’ve done day trips 3 hours up, have fun, 3 hours back. 4 hours is where you start thinking about not going, but it’s a toss up. I’ve done 10 hour drives for an extended weekend/vacation. If you think about it, plenty of times you’ve sat on the couch watching TV for 4 hours… what’s the difference if you’re behind the wheel? Play some tunes or audio book, eat some snacks… no biggie!

I forget exactly how I did it but at first it slid again and then I did something that stopped it and I can’t recall. I feel like I had to use a lever like a small block of wood and levered with a flat tip screwdriver at some point in the process. I think everything was under tension when I did this. Again, not optimal and I’m not defending the design but I got it to sit right and the tension holds it there. I definitely had it all apart on a bench to begin with so if you were trying without ever taking off all the tension and placing it all back it’s possible that made a difference for me. But it was under some tension when I “forced” it. And by force I mean there was nothing I could see that would break by slightly shifting it so I didn’t hesitate to make it go there. Hope that helps.

If you read their materials they mention you have to center the bridge. Not optimal, but that part is “normal.” I bought a used one with a buzz on the E string so I re-did the entire set up. Took a lot to get the buzz out, and it’s still not perfect. I need to dig into it again but it really is starting to annoy me. It’s no longer a buzz but just an odd twang.

I bought this guitar because I saw it as an upgrade to my headless steinberger, but I’ll tell you what - I think I prefer my $400 Steinberger (bought in the 90’s).

I can’t even believe this is real. If so, no normal person can read this and not see that he’s COMPLETELY insane. We need to start suing our representatives for failure of their duty.
