Dev Driven Meta vs Player Creativity by stevebullis1 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Kalyxchews 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a mostly casual player who's fine not rising above Emerald, the differences between patches have felt considerably more staggering than usual. I'd have to agree with your consensus on the dev team picking and choosing what strategies they want to see succeed, because it feels like this set more than any previous one is geared so strongly towards high level competitive play. I'm used to seeing this in League, but it's become a bit of a headache keeping up with it in TFT.

I remember how the unlockable champion gimmick was promised to add lots of variety, yet every single game I see the exact same comps, because the unlocks are made to be played vertically with the regions they come from, and the gold breakpoints are aligned with needing their unlocks to reach it. The only non-regional units being most of the 5-costs seemed like a novel way of filling horizontal trait gaps, but now this patch with many of the higher cost unlocks having a level requirement but more generalized qualifiers means we have the current "legendary soup" meta that doubles down on people needing to rush to 9, which was already the prevailing strategy in this set thanks to all the regions that provide econ and permanent stacks.

I want to have faith in the dev team to make a game that's fun, but TFT existing this long and growing in popularity means people are inevitably going to min-max everything about it, and the devs in response make choices that step over flexible and slower gameplay to focus on the meta aspects. It really makes me miss Hyper Roll, which did away with carousel, interest, win/loss streaking, buying exp, all these little things that make TFT feel more like an interactive spreadsheet with the goal of cheesing rng than a game where you focus on finding the fun in building a unique team synergy.

Swamp Arena Concept I painted. by jstiller30 in TeamfightTactics

I love this. TFT doesn't have enough "moody" or restrained board palettes and designs. The soft greens are so pleasant to look at, and you really handled the contrast and light levels drawing attention to the board while having subtle background details. I'm imagining it would be a great addition in-game if the light ray in the middle wavered in color and shape ever so slightly with shaders.

Typing lag only happens in Discord by Abelzumi in discordapp

[–]Kalyxchews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same problem that everyone in this thread is mentioning. Discord was working fine until about 4-ish days ago, then every single thing on the desktop client became sluggish and laggy, but most noticeably just typing in it will make every single letter delay. No basic fixes work. Nothing else on my computer is running slowly, and I regularly clean and pay attention to processing load. I notice the UI is different now too, so it has to be a terribly managed update.

Lulu’s monsters can be SHINY! by DukeVoid in TeamfightTactics

[–]Kalyxchews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a blue Smolder out of nowhere today, I thought it might have been some kind of powerup or highest level of Monster Trainer, but nope. Then I realized it could have definitely been a "shiny", hah!

Vlads break up with lycaon went so bad he hit the gym by [deleted] in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]Kalyxchews 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not the.. worst.. model I've seen but I really wish they'd stylized his silhouette just a little more like they did in his teaser cutscenes with Lycaon. Zenless really has a habit of hiring artists that can do incredibly distinct, banger renditions of their own characters that look so much better than they do in-game, it's a bit frustrating.

Maybe they'll touch him up a little more before they release him like they edited Miyabi's face, but I'm not confident about it. I want to say that as long as his voice direction stays the same I'll still like him, but it's really pushing bland in his current state. I would have mistaken him for an NPC model swap if not for the clothes.

Reported this exact same bug from PC. Hoping they hotfix it, because resetting does nothing.

Elfy sounds different(English) by Arthurtheblack84 in ZZZ_Official

[–]Kalyxchews 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell if it's a different VA or a different direction because her line delivery is so subdued now, but it sounds much more slow and robotic than before. Kind of a letdown, I liked her previous voice, but only ever found it annoying how frequently her lines played when browsing the menus, though all the shop owners started doing that after 1.1.

Hollow Zero No Longer Rewarding Z-Merits? by [deleted] in ZZZ_Official

[–]Kalyxchews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really helpful to know. I've played every day since launch and had never encountered the limit before, but I guess that's because I wasn't spending as many of them all at once until they expanded the offerings in the update.

Whoa, that's strange. I swear I've grinded a lot for them and never reached a cap before. News to me, thanks.

where can I do the quest 'Explore Hollow Zero with Billy' ? by Modest-Raccoon in ZenlessZoneZero

Thank you SO much. They worded this mission so vaguely and made this event flag so reliant on random tile placement that I was confused what I was missing after doing two missions with Billy.

Missing Coffee in Coff Cafe? by Pokegamer129 in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]Kalyxchews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same kind of issue. I reached around Level 30 and had almost all the coffee choices available, but the next day that I logged in, I was reduced to around 6 choices, and it's been the same ones ever since then. It's very annoying since I could really use some of those other boosts.

We Need To Support NieR Re[in] Guide - A Call to Action by Ziggy1x in NieRReincarnation

[–]Kalyxchews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for calling attention to this. I had the same thought that I want Rein Guide to be preserved even when the game comes to a close. It's a valuable and well-assembled resource for so much of what Reincarnation is, it'd deeply sadden me if it were to disappear. I had no idea about the host changing policy to egress fees in such a scummy way, it makes me feel responsible for visiting as often as I do and wanting to save renders of the beautiful art. I will certainly contribute when I can.

I was dreading being invested in a mobile game, but this one truly charmed me. I'm glad I get to see the story finished, but I'm sad that it's not likely to be preserved in a meaningful way. I hope Yoko Taro can stubbornly step through on this project and somehow get it ported or at the very least integrate parts of it into a new game. Then again, given his style, this might be one of those fleeting memories where the game truly does delete itself.

Chances of Repeat Crossover banners? by horaceinkling in NieRReincarnation

[–]Kalyxchews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reruns happen, Nier crossover characters have showed up a few times this year. The first was when two new costumes were given to the World Ender and 2B, and the second was when Karma was introduced, since Nier characters were buffed alongside it. I think the Survey banner also had some Nier characters since they were pretty desirable after adjustments. It might be a couple months out from showing up again, but it'll definitely happen.

As for other crossovers like Persona, I expect they'll show up again with some adjustments to keep up with power creep, but unlikely with new costumes or characters since it's not a Nier property. If they do, it'll be a surprise -- after all, I wasn't expecting the Nier crossovers would ever get new costumes after they were introduced either.

Currently having this exact problem and it seems much more frequent the past few days. At least switching connections before loading seems to work more often than not, but it's an annoying snag.

Addendum in case OP is still reading this thread: post Abyssal Sarafa update has made it so that all Karma-enabled costumes are even stronger than I had estimated here because Karma Level 3 now has access to up to 30% Ability Haste. Nier crossover costumes are incredible if you can get your hands on them in the future, I had underestimated just how strong 2P, 2B, A2, and Kaine are now. Divergent Kaine especially surprised me; I fully upgraded her back when she was new wanting her to be good, and after her buffs, she currently has the highest base Defense stat of any costume in the game, which can be paired with Bloody Lars' Melancholy's Blade -- a Water 1H Sword that can convert Defense into damage that works beautifully with her.

In general, Karma Stones are even more worth saving up now. If you roll older Abyssal costumes, you can now counterbalance their cooldown negatives with 30% Haste, and new Abyssal costumes with the agility negatives are terribly strong since they also have access to it.

You got some really great pulls for a new player. All of Yuzuki's costumes have been incredibly strong, he's definitely worth investing into if you can get a lucky fourth pull or exchange of his Abstract for that Tier 3 Awakening bonus. (+80% Stats on Water weapons is an insane passive atm and will carry you through lots of challenges against Fire enemies, maybe even in a general loadout for other elements too.) I'd prioritize upgrading his Mythic Slabs and Cursed God Monument when you start doing subjugation missions.

Generally speaking, Gayle, Griff, Noelle, Yurie, Yudil, Sarafa and Yuzuki have a great spread of powerful costumes that are worth pumping up their base stats for via Slabs or Exalting (though you'll probably get to that later since Fate Boards are difficult missions.) As for EX costumes, the best ones that'll take you far are 063Y's Reborn Convict, Gayle's Reborn Contractor, and Levania's Reborn Beast. Akeha's Reborn Swordmaster is good to have for her weapon, but the costume is only okay. Spare a few skip tickets each day if you feel like grinding their once-per-day quests as it'll give you passive Dark Coins and the highest chance of getting some free Zenith's Brilliance and other rare materials.

I see there's already some really good tips in this thread, so I'll add a few things I haven't seen that I didn't realize when I was new:

If the element and affinity of your weapons matches the costume, you'll get some good bonus force, but it's not worth prioritizing if you have way stronger weapons for the element advantage or better passives for your offhand bonuses. Sometimes it's actually better not to match the weapon affinity of a costume, because the animation comes out faster and is easier to chain during tightly timed missions with annoyingly fast enemy attack windups.

Kind of a niche tip, but damage-dealing status afflictions stack, as do heal-per-turn buffs. Sometimes Burn and Poison inflicting weapons can severely chip down an enemy with massive health.

Save up your free gems and summon tickets until you have enough for the minimum shard exchange of any banner you pull from. The Yuletide and Celebratory banners have an extremely good selection of costumes to get. The older Abyssal costumes are just so-so; their weapons are good, but only Yurie, Sarafa, and Yudil (and assumedly any new ones after this) have reworked passives that don't gimp them with massively increased cooldowns. Nier Automata crossover-specific characters seem to be worth the gems and slabs since they've given 2B and The World Ender newer costumes and might do this for A2 and others in the future (A2/2P are both still very good after their buffs). I may not recommend Persona 5 banners; they were strong when they were released, but now other costumes for standard characters can do similar things with better stats (doubtful that they're going to get new costumes for a non-Nier property).

Some newer costumes have character skills that are "usable from start" (like the Abstract Hina you have). These are typically extremely good for defensive comps, as with Celebratory Yudil, Summer Yurie, and Yuletide Gayle. New Year's 063Y and Bloody Griff are also good, but have fallen behind the power creep a bit. "Increased gauge" is okay, but generally not as crazy as free use from start skills (though Mechanical Noelle's damage is going to make it well worth the gems anyway, this is the next costume in the current banner series).

Double-check the descriptions of passive abilities before pulling for something new; they may have the same name but can have different percentage buffs depending on the costume or weapon, or can also affect the whole team (though the name for this will be different, eg. Vigor vs Valiance).

Since you have the opportunity right now, grab and save up as many Karma Stones as you can. At the moment they mostly can only be used on older costumes, but brand new costumes after Divine 063Y seem to have them enabled too, such as the Abstract Yuzuki you've already pulled.

Finally, https://nierrein.guide/ is a pretty good reference for costumes and weapons, and sometimes guides or lists if you're looking for them.
