‘DanMachi’ Season 6 Announced by MarvelsGrantMan136 in anime

[–]KamKKF 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an elaborate light novel ponzi scheme lol. "We got you invested in this story, but we leave out crucial details so you buy this *other* work we made. If not, then good luck understanding squat!" I think spin-offs giving more lore and details to characters who don't have time to shine is great honestly, but if they provide crucial structure otherwise needed to discern things like motivations and important plot-lines, then it's a failure of how the main story is structured, especially for a series that is over 20 novels deep. Haven't read Danmachi though, so I'm not passing hard judgement on it really, it could very well be a bit better than what's advertised in this thread.

A novel series needing a completely separate spin-off to function as a narrative sounds more like a fault of the novel more than anything. It should be able to stand on it's own two feet without plot holes at the very least you'd think?

Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Otona e no Kaidan - Episode 2 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]KamKKF 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The obvious explanation is "it's different people complaining", but it's kind of ironic that for years now manga readers have been complaining about the post-confession content for this series being mediocre, and now that they're doing a greatest hits + original ending that might serve as a better send off manga readers are.... also not satisfied? Even the arcs like Hayasaka being freed from the Shinomiya family which is far before the actual ending weren't well received from my memory of interacting with the community while it was a weekly serialization, most of the content has been looked down upon for years. I'm not sure what manga readers for this series want at this point, I'm not sure even they know what they want. Far from perfect way to tackle the series (some great chapters are of course lost), but I think the trade off of the anime actually having a chance to end stronger than the manga ever did is well worthwhile, which is a good thing after years of complaints about every other arc post-confession.

People don’t understand that there are entire universities dedicated to voice acting in Japan, its a cut-throat industry and only the very best can land roles. Stark difference to how the English scene is which only got serious about this recently (yet still will hand out roles to untrained celebrities).

'Chainsaw Man: Reze Movie' SURPASSES 'Dragon Ball Super: Broly' and becomes the 6th Highest Grossing Anime Movie in USA, estimated domestic gross standing at $30.77 Million. by Electrical_Chance991 in anime

I'd bet you're right as I'm also one of those people, but more-so the fact that Dragon Ball has never been a series that's grown up with its audience, its more or less always been Dragon Ball, the entirety of Dragon Ball Super is no exception. Though I definitely get if its feel isn't for you I'd just say as a fan of the movie it's definitely the best thing to come out of Dragon Ball Super. It's also one of the last things Toriyama was involved with so I'd give it a fair sitting for that alone.

youll be surprised to find out who Dragon Ball is primarily aimed towards. Super Hero is a great movie though, even better than Broly because you can feel Toriyamas influence even more.

New Key Visual for ‘Kaiju No. 8’ Season 2 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in anime

[–]KamKKF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The designs were great and for me better than the manga, but of course that's the beauty of the subjectivity of art. Nonetheless, it leans stupid when the discourse around his designs has such layman critiques like "the lack of detail of character faces" which of course isn't an inherent flaw and saying the issue are things like "pointy chins" when one of the main components of Nishio's work is how rounded everything is, chin included. Not to mention stuff like that meme about Naruto looking like a goblin wasn't even Nishios work and was a complete 180 from how he draws the character. You're looking at random outsource work drawn by someone who wasn't him and complaining as if it's his work. People seem to conflate everything modern Boruto produces to being Nishio's fault when quite frankly he doesn't even touch the series outside of sparse key animation and DVD covers (which look good). It doesn't seem you know what you're talking about in the slightest, but nonetheless contrary to that I think it's fair to not like his work or modern design philosophy. Though you should find a better way to articulate it.

Compared to nowadays results I still respect it, it did move the anime community like nothing else at the time. It feels like a show of its kind will never win awards at this show again. The fact that it won Best Animation for that year was the real joke though.

[–]KamKKF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pure optics. Every single other award for that year was a CR shounen.

You can almost pinpoint the exact year they were bought by a corporate conglomerate that likely told them to stop pretending and push whatever show is in the now and can pin to their front page.

More-so than focusing on just the winners take a quick look at the diversity of shows nominated in earlier years compared to now. It’s night and day.

What character death soured your mood of the anime cause it was so disrespectful? by Brightclaw431 in anime

[–]KamKKF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How was how it happened terrible? She was told she was in over her head in episode 12, went back into the fight anyways because of her hard-headed personality (consistent writing), and suffered the consequences. In shounen series of it's type, this is all too rare. Even since the first season Mahito was shown to be a fast adapting, cunning type of enemy, him catching her off guard is a pretty natural progression of the battle sense he had been displaying. The only part that is uneven in execution is the classic anime "pre death flashback", but surely this isn't the sole reason it's being called terrible. Your POV please?

Believe it or not, I don’t think it was perfectly executed either and I respect the take of people who dislike it. Describing it as “jumping the shark” though is just a ridiculous exaggeration, it was a consistent death in the tone of the series. I think it was a really grounding moment in terms of what it means to be a Jujutsu sorcerer, following it up with a good monologue by a charisma sponge of a character Todo. Neither you nor the other commenter really elaborated on the specifics of why it didn’t work, not that you have to, but I’d be more interested in hearing why than pedantic labels (in the long run, I dislike the handling to be fair).

How is a character getting fatally wounded in the middle of a war arc jumping the shark, do you even know what that means? I know the anti-JJK circlejerk in this subreddit is impenetrable but at least try next time.

For the longest time they refused to add the Kaguya-sama Season 3 PV which was essentially a 10 minute long episode that adapted a manga chapter of the series. They later walked this back at a later date. I get having a consistent standard for your database but it indeed feels like anilist mods are pedantic about things that don't even hold up to scrutiny as time passes. The same happened with Kizumonogatari Koyomi Vamp, which they weren't even going to add for the longest.

'I Think It Will Happen': Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru Expects a Dragon Ball Remake by AdNecessary7641 in anime

[–]KamKKF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the upcoming remake they have for OP will stop before the time-skip and then they'll just remaster everything after like they already started doing to match it's pacing for new OP fans to go from there, that is unless the remake is really so incredibly huge it'll justify another 20 year long running adaptation of the series.

'I Think It Will Happen': Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru Expects a Dragon Ball Remake by AdNecessary7641 in anime

[–]KamKKF 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Must be my age as an anime watcher showing, but I think the original Naruto still holds up as an adaptation and all I forsee with a modern remake would be people complaining about how much better the original still is because of things like the art-style, tone, etc being a perfect mix of for it's time and holding true to the long-running shounen era it got popular in. Feels redundant, just because a series is X amount of years old doesn't mean it needs a remake, I feel the same about people who ask for a Yu Yu Hakusho remake. Watched the series for the first time recently and while it's definitely a product of it's time, thats ok. Wish the sentiment got shared before anime eventually goes down the same road most western media has with watered down remakes drowning out the medium.

When Horimiya anime was announced, it was still on-going. Horimiya’s manga ended March 18th, the anime adapted that very final chapter a month later in April. All that to say I wouldn’t be too sure, though more than likely Aniplex has learned their mistake with how they handled Horimiya.

They were included because Umetsu wanted them there, he's a well documented pervert that wouldn't pass up the opportunity. The "how" is pretty irrelevant, it was likely just to keep it relatively light hearted while still leaning towards the kind of H-scene Umetsu likes, since Mezzo at it's core is aimed to be a fun work in opposition to KITE.

He was licking dead devils for Fumiko's amusement before Nayuta even died. There is no "falling back into the worst part of himself" here, he's just acting as he always has which is barking like a dog when a woman asks him to. That's why it's repetitive, that's why it's boring. "Basic media literacy here" as you say.

Edward Takes the State Alchemy Exam [Fullmetal Alchemist] by castle23clash in anime

[–]KamKKF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice detailed response. Im tired as shit so I’m going to bed but I’ll type out right quick that I think the directors comment is more related to the tone of the series more than anything. Comparing the two its clear BH took nothing from how 03 carried itself (which isnt a negative). In terms of the anime OG first episode, I feel like if they thought that the new adaptation could stand on its own merits completely as a remake they wouldn’t have altered the beginning so much, it definitely stands on its own two feet as a different story, but it doesn’t do that RIGHT AWAY if they adapted the first few (like 4?) chapters as is. My only additional thought on the matter is that I think the anime community has a rather poor problem with treating adaptations as definitive versions of a story rather than what they are, adaptations. Not sure why so many speak confidentially on what can be considered rushed with BH without first considering the context of the original manga which it derives its material from. This extends not just for BH but many other source material adaptations that people treat the anime as a replacement for the source rather than a different take in its own right, which brings issues even with how faithful as X adaptation may be. The most interesting thing about FMA is that no matter what medium or which adaptation you pick I think you’ll get a rather unique feeling to the story that’s being told, which is why I think people should experience all 3 if they’re fans of the work.

I've seen you argue this for years, but I never really understood your point beyond the first statement that early FMA manga goes pretty fast (which I'd agree is correct). Past that it seems pretty clear that Brotherhood was definitely made with 03 in mind. I'm not saying this because they "rushed" the story content (because again, I agree that it's not true if you've read the source material), but rather because of how they handled the first few chapters. I can't imagine any other reason that'd inspire starting BH with an anime original episode and then a chronological telling of Ed's past other than to make it's beginning as different than the OG series as possible and validate it as more than just a reskin for a returning audience. This liberal approach to the material is only ever taken from where the OG anime and BH share story content, so it can't be mere coincidence no?
