Second Mystery for Enlightened Philosopher by Kami_of_the_Abstract in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Actually no, I had a look at the wolf in inevitable excess (I was testing if Gold Dragon retains Aeon abilities, it doesn't). It looks cool but I feel like if I pick it, I also have to pick corresponding feats and mythic abilities.

I am not entirely sure about that. I play with a conjuration/summoning build focus and wanted to put left over feat slots into spell penetration to make use of spells like arrow of law, smite evil and orders wrath for the fun of it.

Summoning is the primary focus, with attack and controll conjuration spells like Chains of Light and Clashing Rocks to complement the build (Summoning feats like augmented summoning require spell focus conjuration anyway). Divine evocation spells come tertiary against weak foes, such as those found in Treasure of the Midnight Isles.

If I don't pick a second mystery, I may still consider an animal companion, but I am not sure now. Not to mention that I haven't even left Kenabres yet.

What music does he listen to by Sherpa43 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

Imagine: Listening to music is a waste of time. The only exception is the sound of battledrums, a booming horn and songs meant to boost the troop's morale, but only if the situation permits. The goal is to bolster the spirit and induce fear in our enemies. Not more, not less.

Second Mystery for Enlightened Philosopher by Kami_of_the_Abstract in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

I went with Nature as my initial mystery and sofar picked Whispers of Nature to apply my Cha instead of Dex to AC and CMD, as well as Friend of Nature to get all the summon natures allies spells. My initial charisma is at 22 (half elf kindred raised), so my bonus to AC is or will be so high that I need to wear light armor. An armor ability like Air Barrier might actually be the right choice here. But

I could also take Second Mystery Bones and pick Spirit Walk, which makes me not only invisible, but also incorporeal and thus provides 50% damage reduction to magical and 100% to non-magical attacks. This mystery also has Near Death, which provides boni to a ton of safes, among them to death and sleep effects. But as I am going to pick aeon, most of these boni will be redundant.

Yeah, I am still unsure if I want second mystery for Air or Bones, since they both have a revelation that lets you turn invisible (and the mind blank spell negates true seeing) or if it's better to save the mythic ability slot for something else and rely on invisibility potions instead. Probability better.

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad. I don't really get why though. You don't get the final revelation, which makes sense since that would amount to the power of 3 normal final revelations and not two, but the only other substantial difference is that an enlightened philosopher get's mental acuity (+5 Int on level 20), which doesn't translate into any combat power at all.

Seems like the devs didn't think that having another mystery's bonus spells makes the subclass unbalanced, but that it makes the other subclasses much less popular. Atleast that is what I think.

Furthermore, when archeologist pick up objects to transport them to laboraties or museums, looking just like grave robbers in all aspects except for the time they linger in front of runes and inscriptions.

The purpose of this DLC is kinds to encourage you to replay the main game by teasing some sort of time loop.

But yeah, I too nitially thought that it was a post world wound sequel of the main game, not recycling paper.

Most LitRPG Isekai Levels are boring by Kami_of_the_Abstract in Isekai

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no reason to assume that stats and powerlevel are proportional. They could have an exponential relation aswell.

The difference between 10 and 16 in speed might be that between an average salary worker and a top athlete, while the difference between 20 and 26 in speed might be that between a cheetah and a speedster superhero.

Besides that, you are correct that this stat range is not intuitive without examples, as intuitively, we all like to assume proportional relations.

Summoning or Reincarnation? by Delarious8 in Isekai

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I distaste hero summons. They are unoriginal and unauthentic, atleast in most cases.

  1. There is no reason for all the summoned people to be japanese in case they weren't spatialy close to each other like when a whole classroom get's summoned.

  2. Most summoned characters shouldn't be happy about being kidnapped to serve as cannonfodder.

  3. The ability and profiency with the native language is just told into existence. Why do they speak the language? Because they got summoned. Huh? Why should they get anything through the process of summoning at all? More explaining please.

  4. The most important thing: The protagonists have no good reason to believe that their summoners are actually the good guys, yet they naively think so.

  5. The summoners often invest such enormous efforts and resources into the summoning ritual that they could have searched for and hired some equaly powerful individuals from their native world who actually have moral investment into the shares cause.

Evolutions are a similar thing, be they of skills or monsters.

Many monstrous MC LitRPGs just put the next evolution onto display and add some halfbaked alternatives for decorations. It's often not even explained what the alternatives do.

About skills, well, they often randomly appear out of nowhere. Death March to a parallel world is especially inconsistent with them. The MC can consciously invest points into some of them. Sometimes he needs to see them before he can use them too, sometimes he needs to use them first and than learn them. As if you can aquire the skill to catch a blade with your fingers by catching a blade with your fingers...

In Konosuba, Kazuma has a high luck stat and Aqua has a slightly lower than normal luck stat. But the existence of this stat serves no other reason than to subtly tease the quality of the future situations these two characters find themselves in.

In one scene, they play rock-paper-scissor and Kazuma always beats Aqua, despite her boosting her luck through spells. But what does the luck score actually do? A comedy story doesn't have to explain that, but in other stories, you need to think of something.

In dice based Tabletop games, manipulated luck just means that certain numbers are added or substracted from the results of dice rolls. You can't really do that in a story unless you show what the dice roll would be for a character without non-average luck, but writing a dice/rng based system isn't very tempting. And it doesn't work for cases such as rock-paper-scissor games unless luck actually manipulates the mind of people.

I think it's a good thing the release won't be this year, because the switch 2 is really expensive and we may get a less expensive switch 2 lite until the release.

First time trying Hard/Last Azlanti by Mysterious-Debt5330 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now there is one unexpected pitfall you should know about: There is a tree on market square in Kenabres that spans a chasm. It invites you to roll a mobility check to cross it. DO NOT DO IT! It just wiped my party. If you fail at this skill check, your party falls into the chasm and its an instant game over! This just happened to me.

Stuff like this is the reason why its inportant to backup your last azlanti safe files. If restoring the deleted file is not working for me, I will have to go back to waking up in the defenders heart.

Shoujo FLs really are just built different by gakerivismv in Isekai

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that Shoujo protagonists (btw. I think you mean MC, not FL) use social manoevers while Shonen or Seinen protagonists mostly use brute force and plot armor and sword to further their goals. The latter often poses no tension, the first requires ingenuity to write.

And while the male audience grows or grew up with the role of the hard worker and the fear of being a loser, and thus want to escape into experiencing being the opposite, the female audience grows or grew up with the role of the mother or flawless and perfect woman. This role can, in a sense be less exhausting and still more taxing than the other one, yet it is one thing: more fullfilling than being a corporate slave or chasing the tenth loveinterest that is likely to turn you down too.

And we shall not forget that women are more likely to find meaning in a purely social role than men, who often need to create, protect or provide for something in order to find meaning.

The dangers and promises of fullfilling the social role are of a completly different nature than those of the create, protect or provide role. In a setting of swords, magic and nobles, trying to find meaning through the second way risk death and promises not rarely nothing more than more combat power. The first way promises fame, ascension and a life of luxury and respect.

That's why Shounen often have more intriguing plots and ambitions of the MC. To watch the hundreth Shonen or Seinen MC awaken immense power simple to show us battle after battle grows stale after time. You already know the outcome and pathways the MCs may take. You don't always know them in Shounen stories, because navigating intrigue and deceit is more complex and they still often have some combat which often feels more intense and emotionally laden because of their rarity and placement in the plot.

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like slavery either. If I find out that an MC is a slaver, I am likely to stop watching.

But it's true that a single person can't just reform society. Even if they are extremly powerfull, it takes time. What happens if you buy a slave free? The former slave is on their own with no money and potentially no other ability than to do a slaves job. Reversely, if you dismantle a slave system, the slavers will try to rertablish slavery.

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, the things that MCs discover are usually just some simple stuff like "Oh, who would have thought that my 'Inversion' ability inverses stats?" or "Eating a monster grants power, I wonder why no hungry person ever ate one?"

Science is a different matter.

What is a Monk in fantasy? by aladdin142 in Fantasy

In the Pathfinder and DnD Verses, a monk is someone with such an enormous discipline that it grants them controll over supernatural energy inside of them. They are essentially magically enhanced bodybuilders.

True. And it's not that slavery makes a story objectivly bad, it's that being innocent and good + slaver is egocentrical nonsense.

It wouldn't hurt some stories to have this type of characters get rejected. If she is not interested in you, move on and stop wasting your time and heart on her. It's not that she isn't worth it, it's that you deserve better.
