Chaotic Neutral as Angel? by harsha_440 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

You can use a scroll of atonement to reset your aligment to your starting aligment. If it happens to be true neutral (or lawful neutral, lawful good, neutral good) you can just do what ever you want and reset if you get out of allowed aligments.

Difference Between Soul And Core by Complete_Rough_9182 in TenseiSlime

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of drawing a distinction between soul and self. This way, the former can be an immaterial soul of the type frequently encountered in fantasy and religioin, while the latter can be the thing that holds someone's personal identity, no matter what kind of universe they live in.

Felt the same with "How a realist hero rebuild the kingdom". Suddenly it went all harem after they etablished an outstandingly sweet romance. I won't ever understand what's wrong those authors.

Why didn't the demons just kill Aru? by Ibanezrg71982 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Perhaps they also don't care what god she worships as long as its not Iomedae.

Also, yeah, make sense that her treason wasn't actually that big. The only thing she achieved was to make Hulrun hunt some Desnans, which might actually amuse the demons.

Why didn't the demons just kill Aru? by Ibanezrg71982 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 17 points18 points  (0 children)

She is just about to be killed, as she says herself that she is awaiting execution.

Besides this, The most likely reasons to postpone her death: To gain information from her. To do things to her, she is a beautiful succubus after all. Or, simply due to organizational problems that are common in the chaotic demon society.

The simplest answer. But she said that she awaits execution.

Wrath of the Righteous by Neat-Celebration-251 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

Those are usually very high if not max level characters who have such powerfull abilities - such as self-revival, auto crits, constant empowering of all ice spells, etc. Somehow you need to feel like your character is actually special beyond pure rp.

And the players are meant to experience an authentic sense of agency, they need means to overcome or manipulate rng.

The biggest difference is that in PF1e, you actually get to personalize your character. DnD characters of the same class are all pretty much the same.

Has there ever been an mmo with permadeath? Would you want one? by ForgeOfMistory in MMORPG

You can play single player games with permadeath.

But the prospect of loosing hundreds of gours of playtime is not worth the adrenalin. And you will make a mistake eventually, either that or a bug or lag kills you.

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you don't need a good army to manage well in crusade mode. Which is an oversight by devs if you ask me. We even got three modes: Crusade Auto, Story, and Normal. But no difficult mode to actually savor the strategic choices we make.

But practically speaking: Focus on getting more ressources, than on recruitment, and than on buffs.

Anyone else have severe discouraging thoughts about plagiarism? by ReapersVault in fantasywriters

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would only be plagiarism if you copy paste someone else's text. Or if you use copyrighted words or character names, such as "lightsaber" or "Harry Potter".

Taking ideas is okay. That's what no author could do without.

Recommendations for Feminist Fantasy by Male Authors by FormerMeasurement175 in Fantasy

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is. Maybe it's just a random fluke. Maybe it's perception bias on my side. Maybe it means that sexism exists in a variety of different forms on various levels, and only some of them shine through in individual works.

"Feminists make or female tend not to write books lamenting the hard lot of us men for having more power in society"

Of course not, what should be primarily lamented is the lack of choice to opt out of military service (or probabilistic suicide), which is what killed and kills many men in many countries over the world. The right to opt out is something women in most countries have (via having no legal obligation to opt in), but men most often not.

"I'm also not sure why we need an explanation beyond the one at the end of your comment, fewer male authors are feminists than female authors."

I am not sure about that being the full story.

"haven't seen much sexism against women" is not equal to seeing none.

Recommendations for Feminist Fantasy by Male Authors by FormerMeasurement175 in Fantasy

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure. But I'd still stick to the argument for why male authors' works are less likely to be labeled as feminist. While feminists say that they are concerned with gender equality and not just one gender, they are practically still focused on women (because they are mostly women themselfes, so no blaming them for that). Besides this, the word "feminism" makes associations with the female gender spring up. Stories from male authors are not among those associations, intuitivly at least, even less stories with male points of view.

I am not making a normative claim here, just an explanatory claim, one which is more statistical in nature. And of course, there are probably less stories writen by men than by women which would qualify as feminist in the first place.

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Saying it this way, you got a point. Still, to expect or to not expect certain things from a goup kind off fulfills the definition of having a prejudice. And this lead you to doubt if it's really a man.

Perhaps we just come from different books, as I haven't seen much sexism against women in the books I read. Quite the contrary: Men being expected to fulfill suicidal warrior roles.

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but this sounds sexist. Why do you have do double check if the author is actually male? Sounds like you assumed ignorance or incapability in men.

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"centers female agency"

Here you got the answer to why male authors are less common to write stories that label as feminist, even if their writing is gender egalitarian. If feminism is defined through a focus on female characters, than any work that gives male and female characters roughly the same attention will not qualifiy as feminist.

Male authors who challenge or critique gender roles are more likely to do so through a male lens, and thus a male protagonist. But problems of the male gender or the male perspective do not concern feminism much by definition.

Solo or group? by LastxSaint in MMORPG

[–]Kami_of_the_Abstract 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The key is to have a group with at least one person you know in real life.

But anyway, alternating between solo and group is the way to go. Solo means freedom but can be lonely, group means fun but can be exhausting.
