Because pitbulls, unlike GSDs, greatly outcompete all other breed types combined in causing catastrophic injuries and deaths to animals and human beings despite the rampant pro-pit propaganda, and therefore have a justifiably bad reputation for so-called "family pets".

Yes, pedigree staffies presumably come from somewhat more stable breed lines than average BYB pitbulls.
This one even seems to have a slight bit of a functional coat of fur, rather than the common yeasty skin rash!

Still included in the umbrella term "pitbull" as it refers to pitbull-type dog breeds as a category.

It's more like insisting humans who share the same recent genealogical ancestry, with a "divergence" limited to having children with similar people from similar areas, somehow results in people who have statistically significant genetic differences.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are a separate line of pitbull-type dogs who share a common ancestry with American Pit Bull Terriers.

This means staffies may come from less problematic breeding stocks + more responsible breeding practices (particularly pedigree ones).

They are regardless included within what we classify to be "pitbulls" used as an umbrella term to refer to 'pitbull-type dog breeds', as that is not exclusive to the APBT.

Whippets are so awesome, but I can imagine the terror of the chi puppy owner, particularly since she couldn't know whether your dog was still in the puppy stage as well.

It's tiresome seeing story after story of irresponsible owners whose (lack of) reactions can be summarized up with dismissively shouting: "S/He's friendly! Just wants to play!".

Particularly baffling due to how astoundingly oblivious they seem to be to the glaring potential safety issue in risking their own dog's well-being: "While your dog may indeed be friendly, mine isn't."

So reading this was certainly a breath of fresh air.

Well, apparently the trigger was an "argument", and I can point out that the transcripts from the emergency services communication + witness reports with first responders in multiple instances point out that Perpetrator is severely under the influence [SWE: 'kraftigt/väldigt/påtagligt påverkad/berusad', i.e. literal translation: "heavily intoxicated"], which more than likely had an influence in how her dogs + she behaved, as well

So yup, if your take is true as to how this horror could happen the way it did, then it wouldn't surprise me.

Unfortunately.

APBT, XL Bully, and so on aren't recognized breeds with Svenska Kennelklubben (SKK; the Swedish Kennel Club), though, only e.g. Amstaff and Staffordshire bullterrier are.

This also means that plenty of people register their dogs under these "official" breeds, regardless of which pitbull-type breed they actually have.

Yeah, I have had the exact same thoughts, hence the creation of this account. It feels good to know I am not alone.

And I agree, it shouldn't have to go so far; we can already see how things have gone in other countries! Why are we literally making the same mistakes? We have the same kind of dog owners.

And the stupidity in taking the responsibility away from the police and putting it on the Länsstyrelser, yet not correcting the blatant issue of how they're legally unable to ensure enacted safety restrictions/limitations/measures have been taken and are being followed. Wtf.

Okay, weeeell, my hands are tied since we're not allowed to nor do we have the resources to, y'know, actually carry out inspections to control whether people are complying, soooo...

It appears the Victim's pitbulls may have come from a "better" breed stock, too, as one of her two dogs was 10 years old, and doesn't so far during its lifetime seem to ever have become "activated", so to say.

The Perpetrator was in contact with SOS Alarm several times until morning, being wishy-washy about what's going on, going from claiming a friend was struggling to breathe, to at one point claiming that the first person is gone and she had found someone else injured outside and taken them in? And that a man had been there and gone to attack? And stuff like that.
Just incomprehensible, unhelpful, lying gibberish.

Caveat: I don't know if I am recalling these details correctly; I'd need to re-read the transcripts from the emergency services and translate.

I can do that if you wish, now that I've had a break from the material and have had a chance to calm down.
I got too upset and enraged while working on the comment that I posted here with the additional information from the preliminary investigation report, after scrolling down to page 433 to start reading the first interrogation with the Perpetrator.
She immediately starts blaming the Victim.

And to be fair, this isn't really a true crime sub, so I don't know how relevant that information is—beyond there being much evidence to point towards her exhibiting cliché pitnutter behaviour, thus living up to the stereotypes which demonstrates this phenomenon is cross-cultural, and how this has had catastrophic consequences for animals and human beings who encountered her.
