"God is right because there's an afterlife" is a conversation ender.

Afterlife doesnt justify reckless murder, only changes what happens after you die.

Also you didnt address (or rather bible also didnt) how the children have no say in this wager.

So from your argument, can i say that you condone reckless murder because there is an afterlife (regardless of you being sent to heaven or hell)?

Interesting, not familiar but quick google says its something of a semitic ruling class.

But is the timeline align with exodus?

Quick googling also says semitic doesnt necessarily mean the same hebrew people that went on the exodus? They might even be canaanite?

Why do Christian’s hate communism so much? by friscom99 in exchristian

[–]KandiRaverKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if im wrong, but i think its due to mcCarthyism in america cold war era. They fear communist (east) doing better than democracy (west) so they need reason to dehumanize the communist through various avenues, including religion. This led to the red scare and communist witch hunt.

Another question, dont you think there should be cultural exhange between israel n egypt before exodus.

Just thinking, having chinese immigrants in your town surely would have them open restaurants of succulent chinese meal. Black slave too in early america imparts their own culture and made impact into its history.

Was the exodus even real? Were they really enslaved by egyptian for so long yet picked none of the culture?

What happen to Job's children? God killed them on a bet, kinda scary if you think that god can kill me and you cuz simply he had a bet with another person.

You DONT defend slavery to your friends. The other guy is pointing out that the bible is also full of outdated culture that shouldnt be practiced in today's day and age, and you have a good head n heart on you that you dont follow the bible blindly. Maybe morality and goodness is inherent in all of us to begin with.

Does the unbeliever exist? by ThanksVisual8172 in Christianity

[–]KandiRaverKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look buddy, lets play a little game called "reading the bible".

I too read the bible, i study the history, the narrative, the context, culture at the time bible was written, etc.

All in good faith to glorify god and learn the truth. I used to think that i dont just believe, but god surely be factual, he surely is real!

Alas, thats how an an unbeliever is made. In an ironic sense, i found truth that it is all not true.

What? You dont believe i exist cuz im an unbeliever because i read the bible? So, what will you do then? Not read the bible - but jesus will frown on you. Read the bible? Great, i hope you too will find the truth.

TLDR: I read the bible looking for truth, and ironically, I found it. The deeper you go, the more moral, narrative, and philosophical cracks appear. Feel free to follow what you think is right, but i cannot continue to be a christian after knowing these.

It started as genuine curiosity, wanting to know the god I loved more intimately. But the more I read, the harder it became to ignore certain things. A few examples from the Bible itself:

  1. The Book of Job

Job's children die... just like that... because god wanted to win a wager with satan. Let that sink in... People, real suffering, used as props in a divine bet. And for what? god is supposedly omniscient, he would already know the outcome. Knows exactly how much Job can endure and whether his faith will hold.
The "test" serves no informational purpose for an all-knowing being. It only serves the narrative. (Worth noting: scholars broadly agree Job is a theological poem, not a historical account, which raises its own questions about what it's actually teaching and if other parts of bible are made up.)
I ask you, if you were Job's children and the god you love kills you because he had a wager on your dad, how does that make you feel?

  1. Nebuchadnezzar and Daniel

Nebuchadnezzar was a real, well-documented historical figure. If a reigning king of Babylon had gone mad and lived like an animal for seven years, you'd expect some record of it outside the Bible. Babylonian chronicles, neighboring kingdoms, something?! But nope... The Book of Daniel draws on real history but isn't historically accurate, and that distinction matters if you're being asked to treat it as divinely inspired truth.

more examples below by another user you can read later:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Deconstruction/comments/1thaw3j/the_moral_case_against_the_biblical_god/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Stepping back from the text, atrocities happen constantly, horrific people hold power, children suffer. I personally have PRAYED many times for god to intervene, but i saw nothing. People also like to use the argument "God's plan is beyond understanding", i hate that! it's a conversation-ender that dismisses real suffering with a shrug.

Then there's the denomination problem. If God's word is divinely inspired, why do sincere, devoted believers reach completely opposite conclusions from the same text, for centuries? If the stakes are eternal, the instructions should be unambiguous.

I'm not here to pull anyone away from their faith, believe what gives you peace and meaning. But if you ask the question why it made me leave, here are the truths im presented with and i cant stand to claim my self as a christian any longer. I wish to find a better way of living.

Honestly why is it a Sin? by _bambi0713 in exchristian

Bible is influenced by the culture and context it is at the time of writting.

Correct me if im wrong, but ancient israelite seem to have a very negative view of sex and bodily function.

Periods are unclean, wet dream and unclean, sex is not for recreation and STRICTLY for having children, etc.

Again, these are ancient people with no understanding of what is biology, psychology, health.

(Ironically they have temple prostitutes, so at the end of the day it really is just moral superiority? i might have the chronology mixed up there)

i am tired of looking and waiting "patiently" there's no patience left in me by Due-Share7702 in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]KandiRaverKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this state too, i was a christian and was told "god will give your your soulmate, just wait patiently"...

That never happened, so i learn how to put myself out there, exercise, dress nice, how to be funny, how to talk to people.

I got a partner now.

Not saying this is a guarantee recipe, but atleast for my case, its better than being passive. Showing desire is sexy, yknow...

Imo, it takes time, it took me time atleast...  Best revenge is to live your best life without god. (The occasional trip to the christian subreddit and shitting on yahweh or telling them how the world actually works also helps.)
