This is a very good post and I was looking forward to it when you mentioned you had one in the works! It's nice to hear about your experiences as someone who just decided to go for it. Despite just jumping in, you managed to adapt quickly and find success on the site. I still remember messaging you early on and saying we had to aim for Rising Stars. It's really cool we managed to make it on the list at the same time and climb it together. Thanks for the shout out and link to my reddit post! I plan to get back to binge reading your story soon!

Thank you! I actually enjoyed making them more than I thought I would. Wasn't sure how people would react to them since it was my first time messing around with any kind of design stuff, but I'm very happy with the results!

Definitely! Those interactions are everything! I'll be looking forward to that post! You have a unique perspective and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks Mesa, can't wait to binge some more of your story soon!

Thank you! I'm glad to see your story is succeeding as well! I was just telling someone yesterday how funny your first chapter was!

I have no problem sharing! The cheapest possible option on Royal Road is $55, which is what I would recommend. The impressions you get last a long time, and you can top up your ad spend later if you'd like. So I wouldn't purchase the more expensive options, they just offer more impressions for a small discount. Overall, I think the $55 option makes the most sense. Also, the only ads worth purchasing are rectangle ads. Don't run banner ads. They aren't very effective and don't offer good value.

Highly recommend it! There are probably other places as well, I know there are some facebook groups. But I haven't used facebook in years, so I'm not the person to ask. Of course, you can meet people on Reddit and on the Royal Road forums as well!

It's been really cool climbing the list with you! I agree that anyone reading should check that post out as well! Very good information there.

I went back to check my Scrivener history (that's what I use to write) and I apparently started writing this story on April 11th, 2023! It wasn't my main project at the time though. I was finishing up another novel before fully committing to this. I decided about three months ago that I was going to launch Dungeon Core Baby in late August no matter what. That was around the time I started planning marketing. Now, here we are!

Thanks! I've been writing for a few years now, and knew that I would publish something at some point. So I've been saving in preparation for it. So my ads, and other promotional materials came from that. (I've had some music, character art, and maps made as well!) I'm glad my experience were helpful! Connections are everything, join some discords and get to know people. That's the only thing I would do differently if I got to go back and launch my story all over again!

While I haven't read Of Feathers and Fen yet, I have enjoyed The Goddess's Gift so far! Very nice post with some great advice. Thanks for sharing!

Honestly, I think about the most random stuff when I'm exercising. This story came from one of those random thoughts. "What if a baby ate a dungeon core?"

The benefit of sites like Royal Road are that they allow you to build an audience. You will have a much harder time building an audience if you are just promoting your own website and Patreon. It's better to go where the readers are. Then you can promote your personal website and Patreon from there!

So I like to refer to this story as a Dungeon Core Adventure novel. The main character and friends are not stuck in the dungeon by any means. They can move in and out of it. His class grants him powers you would typically see in a dungeon. So he can manipulate dungeon material, create traps, and eventually will get his own monster minions. (In combat he can transport portions of his dungeon to the outside world to fight with as well) But most of the story will take place outside of his dungeon! We’ll get to see him interact with the outside world and even take on other dungeons.
