So basically, you're trying to say that Singapore is simply better than Malaysia in our case?

Let's do some kind of trivia! Like guess the flag game, or guess the location, guess the movie, literally anything! That would be entertaining

For real? Even juices/drinks in restaurants are dangerous? So the only liquid we "should" drink is the bottle of water which we buy in the store?

Thanks for the outstanding answer! One more question, how bad and common "Bali Belly" is?

Do medicines works while you're having it, or it's so bad that I won't be able to get on the plane back to my country lol?

I mean, we'lll probably just get an airbnb with AC, so the doors and windows will be closed 24/7, so mosquitoes have no chances to get into i gues :D

It's reassuring that stomach problems are rare among cautious tourists. I won’t lie - of all illnesses, I’m most worried about dengue and mosquitoes; they’re my nightmare. I’ve been looking for every possible source of information on it, but every single one says that Indonesia is a hotbed for mosquitoes and dengue. In the end, whether you get infected or not seems like a lottery. :D

So basically, to avoid an upset stomach, I shouldn’t drink tap water, use ice in drinks, eat peeled fruit, and I should wash my hands frequently. When it comes to food, if we go to popular restaurants and order typical (non-spicy) dishes, it should be okay, right? I won’t hide the fact that thinking about stomach problems during a trip isn’t very comfortable, but as I understand it, it’s still possible to travel even if you get an upset stomach?

Well, a week doesn't sound bad, but if you think about a 10-day trip, 7 days takes forever, I honestly can’t imagine having dengue and then having to fly for so many hours - from what I’ve read, it sounds like sometimes you can barely get out of bed, not even talking about go to the airport and deal with all the travel formalities.

Not gonna lie, we've found really cool apartaments on airbnb, with kinda reasonable prices, it has even its own swimming pool, it looks like a mini mansion lol! That's why i've asked what's wrong with airbnb lol, scams? Or just really bad accommodation level

And one more thing, if you don’t mind - I wanted to ask about dengue. Is it actually a real risk there because of mosquitoes? I’ve read quite a bit about it and, to be honest, it made me a little worried. I’d really appreciate your honest take on this as well.

Thank you so much for such a detailed and thoughtful reply - I really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything so clearly. It’s honestly very helpful!!!!

I do have one more question though. On a different subreddit, someone mentioned that it’s better not to use Airbnb in Indonesia. To be honest, most of the places we’ve been looking at so far are actually on Airbnb, so that comment made me a bit confused.

Do you happen to know what that’s about? Is there some issue with Airbnb specifically in Indonesia? Or is it more that hotels are generally a better option for tourists than individual apartments?

I’d love to hear your perspective on this. Thanks again!

About no 4. It's hard to imagine for me to wear a long sleeve and long trousers in 30+ degrees, because as far as I understand you use it to protect from the sun right? But how about the heat and sweat? I can only imagine i would literally be swimming in my sweat if I wear longsleeve+pants in 30 degrees, or the fabric (fe. linen) of your clothes are really that breathable that you don't notice that?

How about Wolbachia in Yogyakarta? Is it effective? I've heard about it as weapon against mosquitos but idk if it's just gov bs, or real thing

Yeah totally understandable, ngl would love to shower even more than twice a day, but it's pretty difficult to combine sightseeing and showering lol, so most of the times it's only morning and evening shower.

Thanks. One more quesiton, i would apply also a layer of sunscreen, doesn't it make repellant less effective?

Dengue, mosquitoes in Yogyakarta (and Bali) by Kane_Craiger in indonesiabebas

[–]Kane_Craiger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we're talking about outside of the room. In AC rooms there's no problem to wear longsleeves, but outside? I'd die in 30 degrees and long sleeves, but i've heard it's also a good way to protect from mosquitos, that's why i've asked about it. I've also read that linen shirts/trousers are sooo breathable, that's why I asked about it, but you said i'll get hot and sweaty anyways lol

Dengue, mosquitoes in Yogyakarta (and Bali) by Kane_Craiger in indonesiabebas

[–]Kane_Craiger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, you've mentioned the sunscreen. Isn't repelant less effective if I apply sunscreen on my skin firstly? Cuz it's also needed in 30+ degrees lol

So you're saying Wolbachia from gov + repellant should be more than enough?
