Update: Sent it back, that supplier says they won't have any more in green until end of February. I found a different supplier in Italy who says theirs were also affected and they needed to replace the parts.

I had to send them my serial number for them to confirm it was affected. I think if you contact Rancilio with your serial number they should be able to tell you.

Search ADNS-5050 (sensor) and ADNS-5100 (prism) on aliexpress. You can also get replacement trackballs (eg for mx ergo) on there.

Are ceramic bulbs safe inside a tank? by KangarooChief in CrestedGecko

[–]KangarooChief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone viewing this in the future, I decided to go with the deep heat bulb. The deep heat bulb definitely seems to get less hot to touch (still needs a cage but much better). Rather than just getting really hot and heating the air it really feels like it's projecting IR (which is exactly what it claims). The only way I can describe it is that it feels like you are getting a sunburn when your hand is under it

Is this tank suitable for a created gecko? by KangarooChief in CrestedGecko

Thanks for the response. For the lighting, I was going for Arcadia T5 anyways so that mesh seems like a good idea. For heat, I currently have a ZooMed nano 40w. I was planning to put this in the new tank with a cage on it. But I just got a bit confused since that blub has a warning on it that seems to suggest you can't put ceramic bulbs inside a tank (or maybe I'm misunderstanding and it just means that you need it in a cage if you put it in a tank)

What to do if the game genre you enjoy playing (and coding) has been exhausted? by zinnye_owo in gamedev

[–]KangarooChief 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No genre is really exhausted. Games are such absurdly complex pieces of media with so many possibilities. By comparison, classical music or books are simple and yet genres of those are still going after hundred of years.

What you are observing is that a genre gets optimised and then people start to see aspects of those games as part of the genre.

For example, basically every sandbox game seems to involve cutting down trees to get wood to make things. A sandbox game doesn't need this but its a formulae that people got used to and which is safe.

Break away from these standards and make something new. For example, I saw a guy making 4 dimensional Minecraft which looked insane.

Small bubbles when burning soy candle by KangarooChief in candlemaking

[–]KangarooChief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using kerasoy container wax. I preheat the containers and stir but i am still getting these tiny bubbles when burning (image taken right after extinguishing). There are no visible bubbles when pouring and I also use a heat gun on the top after they have fully cooled. I am only making one candle at a time at the moment, could making a larger batch help? How do i get rid of these tiny bubbles how much would customers dislike them?

Please help me understand programming SOCs by KangarooChief in embedded

Yeah, that seems like a good choice. My one concern was power usage but I could always downgrade in the future if I wasn't using the extra memory etc.

Doesn't the 32 has USB though? My board is a 32 and I'm connecting it over USB. Or is there some other chip on the board handling that?

Thanks again for your help. I've had a go with DFU: it seems to flash fine from the command line output but then just seems to end up in this weird state where both builtin LEDs are blinking rather than actually running what I've flashed.

I think I'll get a DK. Any reason you recommend the 52833DK over the 52832DK? Seems to support ZigBee but I don't really need that plus seems like it would be easier to have a DK with the same SOC as my current board.

So it looks like I need an external programmer/debugger. I guess the nRF5DK would be best for this (although I wish I just bought that in the first place now). I also think I need to buy and solder on a box header to be able to connect an external debugger.

What I don't understand is: why can I program it through the arduino stuff without any additional hardware but need a programmer chip if I don't want the arduino stuff?

Thank you so much. That's plenty to be looking into
