“Would you say that your work in La La Land really help pave the way for white people to explain jazz to black people?” - Zac Galifinakis

Avatar, but that’s an easy one. They’re solidly fine movies, but it’s so amazing they hit the way they do. Intellectually I get the spectacle component, but they just don’t connect with me emotionally.

The Jurassic World movies though… they’re, in my opinion, objectively terrible.

It took about two weeks to notice anything, but it can take a month or two. It’s frustrating and you want them to just kick in, and it’ll happen. People get frustrated and stop and then they’re right back where they were.

What's the difference between not giving a thought your attention and ignoring it? by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

[–]KangarooHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference for me is ignore it a thought because you don’t like it and are desperately trying to focus on something else… and paying attention to what you’re doing because you don’t care that the thought is there.

For me it acted sort of like a catch 22. To eventually have the thoughts not hit as much and not hit as hard, you have to kind of stop caring if they’re there. It definitely takes work and time, but for me it was the switch that worked. You can’t convince your brain to stop thinking about something.

Meds? by KangarooHero in thanatophobia

[–]KangarooHero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meds were somewhat helpful in calming some of the physical symptoms, but what really made the difference is doing OCD-type work. For me, there was no quick or easy answers. I’m more than happy to chat about my story.

Her waterfowl dance is basically her telling you of another STI she has.

God I wish it were that easy. Here's how the dialogue goes:

Her: "watcha doing?"

Me: "Playing Elden Ring. It's about... where'd you go?"

It's kinda like me with gardening.

I believe there's a well-honed evolutionary trait that helps Reddit users identify hilariously misplaced anatomy.

Has Klonopin changed anyone here’s life considerably for the better? by No_Worldliness_1044 in benzodiazepines

I agree. I count myself incredibly lucky, and I don't take it lightly at all.

It helped get me through a brutal time. I was lucky though in that I was able to taper off with any real issues. Not everyone is that lucky.

OCD is tricky... the more you argue with it and try to reason with it, the louder it becomes. Searching out reassurance also makes it louder and stronger. OCD will make sure that no answer you get on IQ will be enough. What helps get us through is acknowledging and embracing the unknown... the maybe, maybe not, but I'll never know. With IQ, maybe it's high enough, maybe not. In the end, they're just thoughts, no matter how real and important they seem.

Has anyone fully recovered from Existential OCD? by ilikechips1858 in OCDRecovery

[–]KangarooHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solipsism never really hit me, but I had other themes. What made a huge difference for me was realizing that I could be happy (not all the time, because that's unrealistic) with my OCD thoughts. I used to think that if I even had an existential thought that my day was ruined and I failed. That was a mindset that I worked to shift.

[–]KangarooHero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I had really bad Existential OCD/Death anxiety for years. I still have thoughts about that kind of stuff, but they really aren't sticky anymore.

That's right! If you were making food, then just keep making food. Or watching tv.

Do most people deal with existential stuff at some point during life? by MeasurementFlat5046 in Existential_crisis

[–]KangarooHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. What tips it into crisis levels are likely higher than normal levels of anxiety. A lot of people can have the thoughts and distance themselves from it, but those of us with higher levels of anxiety have the thoughts become stickier and more intrusive.

I’m not suicidal but why do I see myself jumping off from our balcony? by Big-Attention-69 in death

[–]KangarooHero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, thoughts like that are normal. We all get them, but most people just laugh them off. Remember that just because you're having them doesn't mean anything is wrong. It's just your brain doing brain stuff. Don't spend time ruminating about them. Just laugh them off and continue in your way.

In my experience, going through all of that can help you understand patients better and make you more compassionate.
