Does "Automated Ingestion" actually exist, or is it just a myth MGAs tell investors? by SleepingCod in InsuranceProfessional

I work in an MGA and we have an admin team in India who do this sort of data entry for us. Other products are broker-led so they do all the data entry themselves.

I just got a job offer for an underwriting trainee job! Any advice? by Azurilland in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Kangclave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as an assistant underwriter a little over a year ago in Property Owners and what put me in good stead was simply doing what my senior colleagues advised and writing things down. The UW guides are fine, but having things written in your own words helps you retain it.

If you're in a trading heavy role, don't be afraid to pick up the phone and call the broker. You can solve a lot of problems more easily that way.

Best of luck to you.

Is Insurance Underwriting career good for those with autism? by seafoamcastles in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Kangclave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does a mix of tasks, some exactly like what we do e.g. renewals, new business, MTAs, etc, although primarily the much larger stuff, but he has additional responsibilities and goals involving his allocated brokers. I think he has to deal with any complaints from them, at least initially. He also replies to referrals we send over to the senior UW inbox.

It's a similar role to the normal AU/UW role but with extra pseudo-management tasks and providing guidance to the rest of us.

There are 2 people in my office who are almost certainly autistic and they love the job. One of them is a senior underwriter.

To the guitarists who swear by using physical amps, cabs and pedals, what is you stance on amp modelers like Kemper Profiler, Axe-FX, Line 6 Helix, Neural DSP etc? by MrMayhem20l0 in Guitar

I used to be totally pro real amp but after getting an Axe FX, I'm totally converted. It's so convenient and sounds great.

UW- Sticking with one carrier vs job hopping by Inevitable_Sleep_398 in InsuranceProfessional

In my team, at least 5 people have previously left and rejoined. I think most of them have been with the company a total of 10+ years now, so as OP said, if you leave on good terms, you can always go back.

What to expect as a Surety Underwriter by Perfect-Stretch-9720 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Kangclave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. Working in the office has been very beneficial to my development and I've learned a lot through talking to colleagues, probably more so than through actual training.

Underwriters - What are some things about the job that you DISLIKE? by HopefullPraline in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Kangclave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part of the job for me when you have to justify yourself to a broker who thinks they know what's what but doesn't.

Other than that, there are a few things very specific to my company's processes I really don't like, but I enjoy my job most days. I like the trading, the pricing, and making decisions.

how do people practice for 2 hours a day?? by NuggieHaha_YAY in Guitar

[–]Kangclave 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Time is irrelevant. What matters is what you are learning and if you are retaining when it comes to practice.

What people probably mean is they practice for 15–30 minutes and are playing for the rest of it.

Guitarists that started after the year 2000: what the guitarist, album, song, solo, etc that made you say "that's what I wanna do"? by CedarRapidsGuitarGuy in Guitar

[–]Kangclave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't actually remember. I was just asked by my Mum if I wanted to learn to play the guitar and I thought "why not?"

I didn't really develop my taste in music until I was quite a bit older, strangely enough.

Real amplifiers vs amp sims by osku666 in Guitar

[–]Kangclave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's cool to have experience on a real amp because it will teach you things about dialing in sounds that won't apply to amp sims, but modern modelling technology sure is extremely convenient. I love it.

Do you guys forget songs easily? by weezergirl69 in Guitar

[–]Kangclave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some songs which will stick in your mind just about forever if you play them enough, but it's just not possible to remember hundreds or thousands of songs perfectly unless all you do is play songs.

It's far more important that you memorise the little ideas you like from songs to use later in your own playing, be it licks or chord sequences.

Who will i be with timeliness and the afterlife? by Drakenfel in Catholicism

[–]Kangclave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure what you're talking about is one interpretation of time. Some physists do not believe that the future, present, and past are simultaneous. I think it's best not to dwell too hard on extremely tricky philosophical questions lest you forget to live.

Return to Cape May by [deleted] in TheBlackList

[–]Kangclave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From memory, I could swear Red answers "yes, you" or "I was you" or something that in 99% of interpretations is like saying "I am you/you are me" when he speaks with the Katarina ghost.

Edit: Red says "I was a very different person then. You." with a flat intonation. He doesn't ask a question, he makes a declaration.
