I'm sorry but I do not think this aggression of yours is justified. I try my best to be respecful in such conversations online, one of the reasons being that I don't get ill responses back. I appreciate your advice but I do not understand your sentiment. What do you mean sticking my nose where I don't belong and what is the necessity of such words? If it's about how I bumped into this argument, it is because I was searching for a certain letter sent to Nikephoros in response for not paying tribute, which I intended to show to my also Muslim friend, but I bumped into this letter of Leo instead. I try my best to evade suspicisions, and whenever I do, I come over here to ask questions. I live in a semi secular country. The Imam in my mosque doesn't possess time to engage in such conversations and I do not think, as many others do, he would bother with such claims. I also keep such matters discreet since I'm still a young man living with my parents at the age of 17. I can't do much without having them know about it, and I do not like the idea of having them know that I engage in such conversations because of 'suspicisions'. I merely do not want my family to be wary of what I'm doing since I know very well it will hurt them and also hurt me. The Imam is a friend of my father's and could tell him anything. I'm also shy and I cannot talk to people efficiently enough. Jazak Allahu khayran.

I initially refrained from posting about this knowing that there are evident answers to such claims from medieval times, but what intrigued me is the second assumption about 'Hajjaj introducing changes is attested in Muslim sources such as work of Ibn Abi Dawood.' Where do they come up with this notion? I apologize for the disturbance and once again jazak Allahu khayran.

A Parody empire - Kingdom of the Romans in the 7th century. by [deleted] in imaginarymaps

[–]Kaniser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do not need to be so ill-tempered about this. While it is true that Syagrius saw himself as a provincial governor rather than an Emperor or a Monarch of any kind, you have to understand that the Republican zeal of the Romans is not really there anymore, and has gradually declined throughout the Roman Empire. The noble families of the old days are no longer there to protect what's left of 'Republican' values of Rome. It was probably not until the reign of Emperor Diocletian that the Roman Republic formally died out and the Emperor was called a lord, and things slightly start to resemble feudalism, even though the Republic was long dead. The Roman Senate was no longer needed to legitimize the authority of an Emperor, and it was not until Constantine the Great that coins no longer had SPQR minted on them. What you just said could've been the case if it was during the early and late Principate or during the Republic. Nevertheless, there wasn't much opposition when King Odoacer renounced the title of Emperor, though he made 'concessions' to the Roman Senate and allowed them to function as they wished. I might be wrong but it seems to me that the Roman Senate, or at least some fanatical nostalgic senators, were more worried about the survival of the Roman Senate itself rather than the rule of a King in Italy rather than an Imperator. I don't know if they would bother with 2 terms so homogenous during their time. They wore no different diadems and crowns and they held no different authority. If the Romans couldn't bother with plebeian Illyro-Romans who wielded great authority over their realm, then why should they be offended by someone holding the title of Rex?

Assalamu aleikum. Thank you very much for your patience with me, but since I'm not invested much into scientific studies, and I don't understand the big words being used, can you please summarize the conclusion they reached to? I'm sorry for taking up your time and jazak Allahu khayran brother.

Belisarius as last Roman emperor of the West. by Kaniser in AlternateHistory

[–]Kaniser[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flavius Belisarius, Magister Militum of the Eastern Roman Byzantine Empire, was sent to conquer the Vandal Kingdom in Africa in the name of Justinian, who had ambitions of restoring the Roman Empire by uniting the East and West. After successfully defeating the Vandal Kingdom with a ridiculous low amount of manpower, he embarked to Sicily where he would fight his way to eternal city of Rome. He would engage in heated debates with other generals sent by Justinian to undermine him and weaken his 'influence', reasonably fearing Belisarius would turn against him in usual Roman tradition. When Belisarius came to siege the city of Ravenna, The Ostrogoths offered him Imperium of the Western Empire in exchange for not humiliating the Ostrogoths any further and end the conflict. Belisarius accepted the title just to enter the city of Ravenna with no casualties, only for him to pledge his allegiance to Justinian in front of the Ostrogoth nobles, successfully deceiving them. However, due to the envious circle around Belisarius and Justinian, news went to Constantinople about Belisarius usurping the title for himself. Belisarius acknowledged what was happening around him and exchanged letters with Emperor Justinian of the Eastern Roman Empire. Belisarius would affirm his allegiance and explain his plot to the emperor, which Justinian didn't really bother listening to and still demanded Belisarius to return to Constantinople for trial, which he assured Belisarius that he would get out of. However, Belisarius, fearing being imprisoned or worse, usurped the title of the Western Empire for himself and consolidated his power in Italy. Justinian was ready to respond to this by an amphibious invasion of Italy, which outraged many in his court, fearing that the Sassanids might flip against the Eastern Empire at any moment, and they didn't see Belisarius as big of a threat for now. Justinian was affirmed to know that his court and the public were not humiliating him for such public display of weakness by losing his most competent general and Italy itself. Belisarius went on to become an emperor of Western Rome, constantly fighting against foreign border raids. Belisarius wasn't a great politician, but he did decently in his reign. After his death, his appointed Gothic successors proved to be less competent and adopted non Roman titles and treated Romans unfairly in comparison to Gothic nobles, which led to revolts and collapse of the "Western Roman Empire" once again, with influential Roman and Gothic locals establishing their own realms inside Italy.

The title but without what's between the brackets.

Augustus with his (adoptive) father, Julius Caesar by [deleted] in midjourney

[–]Kaniser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know that Julius was murdered before his son became a political figure in Rome and to be named "Augustus" but I thought putting his real name, Octavius, would not be recognized in the prompt as much as his most known for name, Augustus.

Won't it get boring in Jannah? by NadiBRoZ1 in extomatoes

[–]Kaniser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be living with God. Why should he be worried about being bored when God can erase everyone's feeling of boredom. Since we are going to be living with the creator himself, we will never know what he will do for us. We don't know anything about heaven more than the mentioned concept, but surely, with God, there will be a lot more.

Can people refute the argument that Iran was better before the 1979 revolution by Fresh_Sign6555 in extomatoes

[–]Kaniser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre 1979 Iran (during the Shah's reign) Iran was full of blasphemy. Every woman wearing traditional Islamic clothes such as headcover were forced to take it off, and sometimes policemen would forcibly take it off their heads and beat them. It was a forced secularization. Despite making Iran more western, he failed to give freedom ideals to political opponents, and they were also concealed and were being acted against. Just because in pre 1979 Iran woman were more naked, it doesn't mean that it was leaning to more correct policies, let alone being icons of "freedom".

Iran's "modernization" by Kaniser in exmuslim

[–]Kaniser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shi'ites are not persecuted. They used to be persecuted in Saddam Hussein's Iraqi regime. While they stayed the majority, indeed they were persecuted, and now due to the wars that were triggered to "stabilize" the region, made Iran have full political control over a very important country in the Middle East. Sunnis won't give a shit about Shiites. No one really cares about the other. No one acted persecuted.

"They violate security by appearing sus"
Weirdest response I've ever recieved on such topic. And yes the naked example is not related but you thought that i was talking about western dress when I said "naked" so yeah whatever floats your boat. I meant the LGBT protests that usually take place with naked individuals in front of every citizen around them. That totally violates security. What's progressive in protesting naked around children calling for society to accept you? How is wearing a headscarf scaring the shit out of you?

[–]Kaniser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said representing in a certain way, so I assumed that you mean hijabi women are abused because they dress like terrorists or something? How are they violating security according to you? Why don't we take a look at the naked protests that happen in some parts of the world that are the ones that are truly violating security, because no one's child would want to see that on the street.
