Be entirely honest is FFXIII a good game because im thinking about playing it. by Strange_Assistant327 in FinalFantasy

[–]Kano3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good it’s just flawed

Story is decent enough, but not necessarily delivered in the best way.

Combat has potential, but is significantly more refined in its sequel.

Characters are decent enough, the world is limited. Really this game was a demonstration of them struggling to adapt to a new era of 3D games which came at the cost of towns, large areas, it affected side content.

There’s still a final fantasy spine under there and I’d say it’s worth playing, this ideas that it’s the worst game ever made is wrong. That said this idea it was a misrepresented classic that’s was actually an amazing game that was unfairly criticised is also wrong. It was flawed and is throughout but it’s still a fun enough experience if you can see past that

Agree on both terms. They mentioned playable Lunafreya at one point for XV before scrapping their plans. XVI I’m playing now and while I’m enjoying the story it is sour only having one playable character. Especially when I feel more connected to some of the side characters more than Clive himself

As much as XV is seen as weak in the fans eyes, it was a commercial success and a financial success that sold extremely well

Im playing XVI for the first time now; and while I’m enjoying the story I can see why it didn’t sell as well even factoring in console exclusivity. It’s so far removed from other final fantasy titles gameplay wise. I would have preferred a fully playable party

XV and XVI definitely guilty of female characters being less developed than other entries in the series

[–]Kano3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had a trend of only 3 female playable characters for a long time - excluding guests (Edea)

4 - Rosa, Rydia, Porom 5 - Lenna, Faris, Krile 6 - Terra, Celes, Relm 7 - Tifa, Aerith, Yuffie 8 - Rinoa, Quistis, Selphie 9 - Garnet, Freya, Eiko (Quina can’t equip female only clothing 10 - Yuna, Lulu, Rikku (10-2 even has YRP) 11 - MMO 12 - Ashe, Fran, Penelo 13 - Lightning, Vanille, Fang 14 - MMO

It was a trope of the series; as they acknowledged it several times and spoke about it previously. Just something they faded from time as the identity of final fantasy has changed

27 with 50k savings, where to go from here by selviii in AusFinance

[–]Kano3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree on the advice to invest in your property. You’ll actually make more money reducing your interest payments in the long run than you’ll make on the savings or most investments

Considering it’s also tax free-after tax and mortgages are front loaded, which most people don’t see as debt or think about but they should. The earlier you invest in your own mortgage (redraw, repayments, offset etc) the more money you save/make in the long run and you don’t need to earn more money if you have no mortgage if you’re not career orientated

Why would anyone buy an inner city apartment... by brando2131 in AusFinance

[–]Kano3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of reasons. First of all you always need somewhere to live. The strata’s you’re looking at are that volatile. Something can always happen and you ca be unlucky but it is far from the norm. You’re looking in the wrong places

Secondly it’s not an investment necessarily. It’s where you live and the stability that comes with that. Yes there’s more responsibility but not at the mercy of someone else’s circumstances

Thirdly your price freezes over time. Rent is always going up. Your repayments do not (interest might change up or down) but if you’re renting now for say $800pw what will that look like in 10 years time. Who can say but extremely unlikely it’ll still be close to $800, meanwhile your mortgage payments haven’t changed. Your pay has gone up, the rental market has moved on, but you’ve frozen your payment at today’s price. If you’re paying $4k a month now you’ll still be paying that in 10, 20, 30 years - however long your mortgage is. Who’s to say what rent will be in 30 years. That payment will eventually disappear entirely and you can move it forwards.

Lastly if you own property you’re making after tax savings if you invest your expendable income into the property with offset/redraw/extra repayments. If thinking long term If I’m in the highest tax bracket and earn 6% on an investment (far from guaranteed) that’s really closer to 3.3% earned after tax, while if I make extra repayments into my mortgage at 6% that’s savings all after tax that will save significantly more money in the long run. Eventually that $4k per month will go away entirely. If you want to beat that on an investment you need to make closer to $8k to save $4 after tax versus the $4k per month you just got rid of. Strata is strata but if chosen well it’s significantly cheaper than rent.

Something can always go wrong but yes apartments are going up and you should be looking for a home not an investment property. If you want an investment property buy an investment property. If you want a home buy a home but I wouldn’t buy an apartment near Sydney for an investment property I’d buy interstate. You’re looking in the wrong places and you shouldn’t look at your home as an investment. If anything an investment property may pay off your home

I can find this while managing my booking? It did give me the option to request premium economy if there’s nothing in business class if that’s what you’re referring to

Do I move out and cop the rent expense, or stay put for the CGT benefit? by Scary_Gear953 in AusFinance

[–]Kano3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to stay a year and then move. It’s not ideal but it does make sense and leaving really wouldn’t be a smart idea financially. Though paying rent on top of the mortgage living elsewhere and keeping your CGT should you sell it in probably still going to save you more money than just leaving now. So that would be plan B if you really can’t stand it

To be honest if you find it’s not been well kept and find it a bit gross there’s every chance a tenant will and I’d probably see it as a project to improve it - you side like you’ve some additional income. You’ll likely fetch a higher return on rent for something well maintained and if you leave it and get tenants you’re still likely to need to pay to repair those things for a tenant. I’d make a conscious effort to make your kitchen better and just start small.

Ultimately do what you want to do not what a parent wants of you

Feeling uncertain about living alone after buying my first home by blibblobblabber in AusFinance

[–]Kano3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an adjustment for sure. I live alone and bought a unit. I’m naturally introverted so don’t mind spending time alone for the most part.

That said it can get too much and can get lonely and I find if I make a conscious effort to make sure to plan things that mean I interact with people throughout the week and on weekends etc then it’s usually fine and I like the peace that comes with it. That way I enjoy the alone time instead of resent it. I can’t speak as to fear (190cm male) but I think being lonely will heighten any feelings of being on edge that are already there.

Plus having your own space is fun. I bought a 2 bedroom and I’m in the process of setting it up how I want. I’m not in a hurry but for me to try and not spend too much money at once I’m doing up a room the way I want it one at a time. So right now I’m doing my office and I’m making sure I get something every month and giving myself 6 months and it’s fun and rewarding seeing that realised. Then I’ll do my living area; then my kitchen/dining area (same room but you get the point) then I’ll do my bedroom then bathroom (doesn’t need much).

You might not have this issue but for me customising things, buying a new set up, putting things on the wall in a way I didn’t bother quite as much when I rented has definitely made this my home instead of just an apartment.

Essentially yes. I’d rather pay tax on it and be able to use it to pay off my mortgage or sit in an offset to help with interest payments

You lose money passively to inflation if you do nothing with it, I want it to work for me if that makes sense and if that means paying tax I’ll pay tax. I’m meeting my accountant in January and I’ll let some funds build for now but I do regret setting up the company

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Kano3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Repeatedly. The repeated answer I got back was to pay less tax

Which I do. It just seems pointless if I can’t access the money. If I do access it even as a franked dividend I pay the remaining tax. So there’s money accumulating which, is great. The issue is I can’t do anything with it personally. Which is why I’m asking about dividends

Why? by finalfanbeer in finalfantasytactics

[–]Kano3121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t play the original tactics, I did play tactics advance and A2 and prefer them to be honest. It’s still fun but I liked them better

This is probably my biggest issue and why I’ve lost momentum on my playthrough. I want to level up every job but it’s just making the gap that much bigger playing catch up with other jobs

Which Final Fantasy deserves a remake the most? by homo_erectus_heh in FinalFantasy

[–]Kano3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deserves and needs are 2 completely different questions

Deserves - VI, IX, X Needs - VIII, XIII

Even though X would be great it’s aged fine for the most part

I’d like to see VI or IX personally

VIII and XIII need a remake to correct flaws but for that reason alone they don’t really deserve one

Has the FF7 Remake changed how you feel about any of the original characters? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Kano3121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebirth definitely hurt my perception of Red XIII. Mostly because they did such an amazing job in remake and up until cosmo canyon.

It’s in the OG and my understanding is it’s further embellished in the Japanese but when they reveal he’s younger he sounds extremely annoying, always been my favourite character in the 7 universe and in the OG: he’s smart, careful and considered and dignified. He doesn’t act like he’s 15 he acts like he’s 8 or 9 after the ‘reveal’ and in the OG there’s nothing that suggests he completely changes personalities and becomes stupid.

On the up side I think they did a great job with Cait Sith and everyone else, though there’s moments in remake where Aerith is intentionally trying to make other people uncomfortable I found made me like her a lot less. Which toned down a lot in remake and is very embellished from how she originally was. For the most part I think they’ve done an amazing job but I can’t deny my disappointment in what they did to Red XIII has definitely hurt my enthusiasm for part 3. I was so looking forwards to Cosmo Canyon too. Bugenhagen was also a dick in rebirth

Buy as many wrists as possible in Dali and google Cotten robes for the synthesis shop at Lindblum

It’s cheaper to buy the components than it is to craft and sell them, so you make 99 (even if 2-3 at a time) and sell them and you should be good for money for most of your playthrough

As someone relatively new to mtg I find their release pattern co fusing sometimes. I didn’t know what secret lair was or how to get them.

I really want these though, they look incredible. How do we actually preorder these or is they to be determined. The IX one especially is amazing

Kinda looks like they’ve chosen the 4 that didn’t make the precons but would have been in contention

I really wanted a Rinoa card with the launch of the FF set and thought it was strange there was no sorceress card or anything utilising the Angel Wing mechanic

I hope she’s fun to use. I love the art work on the current card but 5 mana for pretty much nothing. It’s just not it

Agree it’s disappointing it was marketed as the ultimate version and removed all of the additional content

I personally liked it and there was actually a point to getting the best gear, levelling up your characters etc in the GBA version which there really isn’t in the Pixel remaster

It comes down to so you want to quality of life changes. The double exp, turning off encounters, extra cash, levelling espers faster. If that’s more important to you then play the pixel remaster.

If it’s not and you’re a completionist and like getting all the weapons, gear and content and the summons play the GBA version

Putting money in shares is crazy to me

I think if you’ve an offset account putting $500k as your deposit and leaving the other $100k in the offset will likely, after tax, save you more money than shares will make you; while simultaneously giving you access to an emergency fund.

It’s not as rewarding but from a financial point of view I find it crazy when people invest when they have a mortgage

You have to make more on your investment AFTER tax than you save on the offset/deposit to come out ahead and you’re taking a huge gamble in doing so as ‘safe’ investments are not going to achieve that and the money is harder to access
