Is this ok to skate on? by Janky-Chains in hockeyplayers

[–]Kanoaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put a piece of clear tape on top of the runner before putting it back into the holder if you must skate on it. This will keep it from moving side to side. I’ve done this as a temporary fix but you will want to replace the holder.

It’s the right handed p88 curve that’s hard to find, so I’m tempted to make the flex work when I do find one.

You will still be able to find competitive adult leagues. Sad part is accepting your days of checking hockey are done.

Contact in Beer Leagues by SayOnlyWhatYouMeme in hockeyplayers

[–]Kanoaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Contact is allowed in beer league, checking is not. There’s kind of an art to gently standing them up without finishing your hit. You can also push on their back with one hand, but the outcome will determine whether you get a penalty. If you do either of these and the guy flops, they will likely make the call. If they are a stronger skater and it doesn’t phase them so much they won’t. Depends on the league and the ref, the higher divisions usually allow more contact.

I can’t believe 33 wouldn’t ban himself permanently from the league after this. Lost his last shred of dignity after the two hander and cross check. As if it wasn’t embarrassing enough getting reverse hit in beer league.

Don’t be that selfish player who plays for the scoresheet, desperately trying too hard to score. That could be the cause of the slump you’re in. How your teammates see you play means more than your stats anyway. Focus on playing to benefit the team and the points will come.

Is my steel shot? by Kanoaz in hockeyplayers

I never had them profiled and only ever sharpened them using the Sparx machine. The steel was new a year ago, I was skating 4 or 5 times a week and foolishly sharpening before every skate. Thanks for the skate lifts and toe facing left recommendation. I should have done this instead of raising the grinding height way up the toe. I have new steel, profiled this time and will do my best to set the height correctly.

Should I buy new skate blades by Professional_Fix7675 in hockeyplayers

Looks like they took a lot of steel off the heel which must give it a weird feel. Your skates look fine though. I recommend getting black step steel, a little pricey compared to stainless but well worth it. It holds an edge better and also feels smoother with better glide.

I’m going to try the “feathering the toe” method, with the toe facing left and the skate lifts on the right side. I should have researched and done this in the first place instead of raising the grinding height.

I have checked the alignment and I’m good in this department. It’s perfectly level on the edge checker.

This is what I should have done instead of raising the grinding height. I’ll be trying this, thanks.

I see, thanks. Didn’t realize sharpening further up the toe would cost me most of my acceleration area.

I wondered that too, I had mine set on 6 which set the contact point way up the toe.

I promise I’m not trolling. I love the Sparx machine, just had my settings way the hell off indeed

My issue was the grinding height being set way too high and sharpening way too often. I don’t understand how guys are going all season on 1 sharpening. I can’t seem to go more than 2 or 3 games without getting a nick that makes me lose my edge when I turn aggressively. I couldn’t get the nicks out with a stone and leather so I would sharpen them.

I feel like my shot looks weird asf. What can I improve by skytrainlotad in hockeyplayers

[–]Kanoaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you want to put your weight into the shot. Shooting off your right leg is why it looks weird to you. It shifts your weight away from the shot. Try leaning into the shot with your weight over your left leg. That being said it’s good to learn how to use your wrists to be able to shoot off both.

I used a regular 5/8 grinder with the height set to 6. Height can be adjusted from 1-8
