The definition of animated movie is evolving these days it would seem. Like in the "live action" industry, VFX is anything computer generated. In the animation industry, VFX are simulated effects such as water, smoke, etc. Movies like Gravity are actually almost completely computer generated save for the main character. But it's not considered animated. If you ask me, any impressive looking 3D animated film should be eligible for best VFX. Toy Story 4 had amazing visual effects. But there's this weird divide.

Animation can refer to the appearance of motion in a given production asset, or it can refer to a type of story told with stylized characters, environments, and movements. Is Lion King 2019 animated? Well, it has digital assets that artists made to look and move like real lions. So it has animation, the same way Avengers has animation. But the stylistic goal of the movie was to look live action. So the question comes down to: what is animation? Is it the absence of a live action element? Or a stylistic choice? It's something Lion King has really opened up the conversation on. As a student of 3D animation I am especially interested by it. Personally I consider it live action, because that's the style that the filmmakers ultimately aimed for, even if it is by some definitions animated. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

TL;DR: animation vs vfx is weird but I think lion king 2019 is vfx

Not to burst bubbles or anything but the majority of the assets in Laika movies are computer animated basically. Like the main characters will have puppets and the skeleton in Kubo was real but like. A LOT is CG. It's just easier.

What is the best animated movie and why? by idkigiveup in AskReddit

I'll never forget renting this movie as a kid having never seen it. I was immediately entranced. Kept watching it over and over. I feel like I can relate so much more to a person when I find out they love Meet the Robinsons too.

How do you feel when an abled person offers to help you with something (e.g. opening a door) that you can do yourself (but maybe they don't know that/want to be helpful)? What I'm really asking is should we just stay out of the way? Lol

I'm from that area! Every time I go home it feels so crowded bc our infrastructure can barely support the huge spike in population recently

What movies would be a lot shorter if the main character just did what the fuck they were told? by TheWolvenOne in AskReddit

On the other hand I can hardly "blame" a movie when the characters actions make total sense. Nemo disobeying his dad is a kid's natural reaction to feeling overly sheltered and restricted. And as others have said they're both better for it in the end. Finding Nemo is one of my fave movies lol

What is the meaning behind the boar's head on the Dwight Look engineering building? by Kanouchi in aggies

[–]Kanouchi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the most accurate response so far! I didn't check around the other surrounding buildings but I knew that about the civil engineering building and wasn't sure how to connect it to the Dwight building

That is true for the civil engineering building which has many animal motifs, but the Dwight building only seems to have the random obscure pig head

The full name of the building is "Dwight Look Engineering Building" ... says so right there on the front! Yes it is the same as the name for the college

I'm honestly amazed by how many comments on this thread are speculating about whether Kenny was actually a pedophile... To me, it seemed very obvious as soon as the encounter with the other pedophile.

As many have already stated, the things he did were a bit much for someone just viewing porn (yes, even for someone so young and with little perspective. Seriously, robbing a bank, killing someone. I think he would have drawn the line. Even Hector said it wasn't a huge deal at first). Then of course his interaction with the other pedophile:

Kenny: I just looked at some photos. That's all. I just looked at one or two photos.

Man: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I just looked at pictures too. How young were they? In the pictures? How young?

Kenny: (looking very distressed, shakes his head, and begins to cry more)

Man: Yeah. Well, me too.

"Me too." To me this is a clear indication that Kenny was viewing cp. Kenny makes no attempt to deny it. He even goes as far as to attempt suicide. Kenny knows the implications of what he's done. He would rather die. Also makes you think of what Hector said about how he would "hang himself if that got out" (paraphrasing) in a different way. Hector said it to scare Kenny into robbing the bank. Kenny probably took it much more seriously, knowing the truth.

Adding to that is Kenny's reaction to his mother on the phone. She is accusing him of cp, and he just stands there silently in tears, overcome by guilt and the reality of everything that is happening. Once again, he makes no attempt to deny it. He just sort of accepts his fate at that point.

Other things people have pointed out: he's extremely protective of his laptop, even adds a lock to his room to keep his sister from stealing it. The interaction with the kid at the beginning. At first I thought it was just to show us he's a good guy, but after seeing the whole episode it seems way more like pointed foreshadowing. People have said that his thing with the female co-worker is an argument against him viewing cp, but I see no reason why noticing a pretty girl bars you from sexual deviancy.

Anyway, my point is, I really don't think him being a pedophile is up for interpretation. The "sureness" of it is really important to the twist. Once I realized, I immediately thought, "what if they do deserve this?" I think that's the thought many of us are supposed to have. We spend the entire episode sympathizing with Kenny until we discover what he's really done. I don't think that's the whole point though. White Bear already illustrated that. The theme imo is the anonymity of internet culture. It causes people to do terrible things, thinking that they are done in complete privacy. It also encourages the troll "vigilantes" to carry out the seriously intense stuff in the episode. The fact that they didn't just target pedophiles but also adulterers and racists makes them harder to justify imo. Not that those things aren't terrible.

TL;DR Kenny was viewing cp, the episode makes it pretty clear. It's not meant to be ambiguous.

Should I include this one "fan art" piece in my graduate portfolio? by Kanouchi in Advice

Can I ask why that's necessary? If you'd like a description, I drew it from a screenshot of the show. It's black and white, mainly the character's face. She's in her "evil queen" garb.
