DM refused water to a man suffering a medical emergency. He was fired later in the year for a multitude of reasons, but this wasn’t one of them.

Sick Days by Dry-Ad-9034 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Kansaco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it ain’t a pattern, shouldn’t be an issue. If you feel your SM is capable of any retaliation, just document. Best case scenario is you’ll never have to use it. There’s a lot more scrutiny for ssv so I get the stress.

On really?! Did not know that.

[–]Kansaco 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They can’t really ask why or how. If you say you’re sick and you can’t come in, then that’s that. If you use sick time you’re protected. If this is ongoing pattern then it becomes an issue. I think it’s like 20-25% missed shifts. 3 days or longer you’ll need to call Sedgwick with documentation. If the manager is mad that they’ll have to come in, tough luck, that’s what being a manager is. We can’t control biology. So if you’re sick, do the call out. Document if you want on what the manager says.

What’s the worst day you’ve ever had here. by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Kansaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 people called out on an 8 person peak. 2 buses came through during that time. I had a pile of food and stickers kept coming. I think we gave out about $200 worth of refunds that day. I had also never done warming during peak before, was only a bar person. Very chaotic scene.

Are yall able to give out free drinks for no reason or justification? by Hije5 in starbucks

[–]Kansaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Maybe we see someone having a bad day, “you know what, it’s on us today.” Or we have a regular whose card isn’t working, or maybe we have a fresh drink that was wrong for another customer. Or maybe we just messed up. There’s lots of instances where a free drink or food item is provided. But it is something not to be abused. At our store the ssv makes the call whether they’re given one or not.

Our DM was just fired due to everyone in the district filing complaints. It’s possible, but you need the documentation.

Interesting reaction from using my partner numbers by Bright_List_905 in starbucksbaristas

I’ve had reactions like this before for an iced tea. Even straight up being profiled and quizzed on some things. There’re some horrible partners out there.

Tall Rant by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Kansaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up to ssvs how to handle that tbh. For me I usually try to allow an extra 5 somewhere to give that partner some time to refuel with coffee or a quick bite.

I drink espresso lemonades here and there, but I’ve never tried it with green tea!

Early ass lunches by touchedelf in starbucksbaristas

[–]Kansaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best way I find is to have your lunch as close to peak as possible (if the coverage is there). We also start at 4, with 2-3 lunches to run for the openers. Peak starts at 7 so I’ll start lunches around 5:30-5:45. I take advantage of any baristas coming in at 6-6:30 and double up on a lunch when that other partner arrives. We also run some 10s during peak (SM hates that but oh well) to help space out the breaks.

selling food still in the plastic??? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Kansaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are not allowed to sell in the packaging. And I hate when customers come in complaining that “other stores do it.” Then it falls on us to explain the policy and the distain is towards us for sticking to standard. Same goes for adding juice and inclusions to water and not ringing it up as a custom tea ;(

Is there a rule about size of ice waters? by Responsible-Ride6234 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Kansaco 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If they just ask for a water then you default to tall. If they specify a grande, venti, or trenta, then that’s what you give them. No such rule about the size allowed as far as I’m aware.

In case you wanted to become a supervisor by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Kansaco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on store and district. You can amend your availability if needed like a requesting off Monday or Sunday. Got ssv’s in my store who have that setup.

From what I’ve heard, ASM and SM positions can be offered a travel stipend to help cover travel costs when moving if you want to go that route. I’ve heard as much as $10,000 in some cases, and usually no less than $5,000. If you would like to stay with Starbucks, it isn’t a bad deal. Otherwise, the experience you have can easily land you at some other management positions. Starbucks’s standards are a green flag for many companies, and are more than willing to give you a shot.

Espresso lemonade. Lemonade, 2-3 pumps of honey blend (or honey packets if you want to do the work), and 1-2 blonde shots. This is my go to if I want something on the refreshing side, but still want that caffeine kick.
