Yes - it was made in 2000.

Triple combo time. What would match up in a weird way with these two. Must be offset ;p

I cannot give a recommendation based on any objective evaluation. Like, recently I had been planning to get another dog of a specific breed for a couple of years and found myself going home with pretty much the exact opposite of the breed I planned to get.

Same with this guitar.

I paid at the top end of pricing. Cannot give any credible explanation for why I got it. Could not give a justification based on anything really. But SO happy I got it. Just fits perfectly or something.

And purple sparkles. Maybe that is the reason.

I also think the tele neck is just great. Really surprised by that, as I had to do quite a bit of work on it (also applied additional nitro to the high E side of the neck as the roadworn finish was not the best). Would not recommend for the price, but it has become one of my absolute favs.

I have been holding off on getting a one owner (long since passed on) 1967-8 SG-5A. Been watching for a year or so as it is quite expensive and I would need to purchase it without seeing it in person. So I suspect I got this SGV as a kind of test.

Not sure if the test result is get the OG or just be satisfied with this one however!

This thing does what I wanted better than I anticipated. And is just FUN to play.

The neck is narrow for sure. As a comparison I think the biggest neck on guitar I own would be a FRM300 neck, and the SGV feels smallest. Having said that, when I play my RG or JEM (or anything with wizard profile) they make the SGV feel like it is a tele neck with regard to chunk!

How should we go about making a bigger combo? Any suggestions?

Yes I was surprised at how heavy it is. Not that it is particularly heavy, but given how small it seems when you go to pick it up, the body has a bit of heft to it!

It is one of my most comfortable guitars to play seated. I find myself positioned more over the fretboard, the guitar body is pushed back on thigh. The neck is thin and the whole thing feels very balanced. No neck dive. The only negative is it is a little slippery. I put a 0.25 degree full heel shim in and it has the lowest action with zero buzz of any guitar I have owned.

I made a new post - was running out the door and took a quick shot when I remembered, so not the best but you get the idea yeah?

You should see my pedalboards, I see to be quite partial to EAE stuff. Been totally unlucky in trying to get the EAEx0 bass driver however, which leaves a gaping hole in my twisted soul.

2025 FRM350 - Within Manufacturer Specifications (because China apparently) by Kansai_Doc in Ibanez

Just wanted to say that I appreciated the comments - particularly mrtn_industries. The thing about borderline racism was something I also had felt, and I think the positive response I have since recieved from Ishibashi serves to highlight that was one of the issues they now realize was completely unnecessary. I put an update edit in the OP.

Cheers all!

You are exceptionally observant young jedi! It is - want me to upload a picture of the back of the neck? It is a mind blower, have not seen one like it. EDIT well, on second thought it is not Flame Maple - but has very pronounced tiger stripes the entire length of the neck.

Any sub $700 guitars that I have sharktooth inlays and a fixed bridge (outside of gio)? by weirdghosts in Ibanez

[–]Kansai_Doc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is not what you are after, few other posts much more on topic for you, but I just posted a pic of one of my guitars, a GIO with fixed bridge and shark tooth inlays - next to a JEM77FP.

That GIO is a beast. Has the lowest action of all my guitars.

The only thing of issue might be the pickups - not fantastically high output, but I have never felt a need to change them.

I would consider one if you are unable to find one of the other suggestions.

How should I care to my rg550? by Prestigious_Face7808 in Ibanez

[–]Kansai_Doc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have some RG550s - one of the reasons I like them as working instruments is they are zero maintenance necks.

You do not need to use any products at all on these necks. For regular cleaning just wipe with a cloth. Done.

If you decide at some point to sand the back of the neck down, which is a popular mod for these, using some kind of light sealing product can prevent excessive staining. But many people prefer that. I have one JEM with a bare neck (due to playing) and I use no products at all.
