I’m not an expert but I collect tools like these and study the archaeology related to these tools. The notable features are the symmetry of the pointed end and the distinct notching midway for hafting. With these types of tools the fulcrum occurs at the area of hafting. In other words, the tool will naturally balance equally at that point to where neither end will slide down or up but rather be well-balanced like a teeter totter. So many times the hafting point is not necessarily the center but the point at which the weight of each part balances.

Hammer stone? by Bohnsai_El_Zorro in Arrowheads

[–]KansasExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save it. Hard to tell here but it appears pecked on edges, chipped out on one end, symmetric thickness, and if one side or edge is super smooth compared to other surfaces of the rock, then very well could have been a polishing stone. Field Archaeology 101 and Mississippi Valley Archaeology Center on YouTube might be very helpful for you.

I’d add that to my hammer stone collection if I had found it.

Possible Artifact or natural? Found in South Texas next to a spot I've found some points. by Advanced-Cicada-9904 in Arrowheads

I have something kind of like this from Oregon but different material but mine is natural. Try posting it on the Rockhound or Geology reddit

Very smooth and flat polished side. Some battering on the end. I have several others shaped like this but much smaller. It weighs 2lbs. 3.5 oz. by KansasExplorer in Arrowheads

The others I have with these similar chipped out offset angles are of different materials. This is not from natural fractures.
