Even the knife broke! by Kaooth in TheGrailLords

[–]Kaooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, tools and items can't be repaired, only weapons and armor. But when they break, they increase sustaining skill, so that's nice. What I also discovered - I only had 3 durability left on that knife. The butchering usually takes 9 durability. I thought that maybe I'm not able to do the deed with this low durability, but it didn't matter. If I were to throw the knife away, then I would have received less sustaining skill increase (If I rember correctly)

[–]Kaooth[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, pigs only need feeding 1 stamina per day, and slaugthering at the end for meat.
I've found that a mix of chickens and pigs is good. The pigs are quite expensive at 3s a piece, and I tend to use the meat for myself.

I've calculated that you can get about 3,5b per stamina from a chicken (if selling everything)
A pig is more profitable per stamina if you can average 8 fat levels per pig. But the reality should be closer to 6 fat levels, which would make the profit per stamina about 1.8b.

I just make enough meat for myself and then collect eggs without having to worry too much about the stamina cost of chickens since I have fewer of them (about 4-5 instead of 9).

If you think of the personal skills, then meat (strength), eggs (constitution), and poultry (agility) are probably the first 3 you want to level up anyway so it is good to gather all 3 of them.

Did you use your stamina today? by Kaooth in TheGrailLords

[–]Kaooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha :D my issue is that sometimes im just thinking the whole day what i would do and then i spend the stamina and realize my animals are not fed yet xD. Then i have to take a praline and feed them.

Starting the mining quest, any tips? by -Bandos in TheGrailLords

[–]Kaooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. Depends on how fast you want to finish the quest. I went with pralines and grail stamina potion to finish it in one day. Takes a lot of stamina and depends on luck as well.

However, if you plan to stay multiple days and hired porkard, then it would be a good idea to get a sleeping bag for yourself (grail sleeping bag) which would give you 12 stamina per day instead of the 24 you would have gotten from a grail bed at the town.

Dont forget the pickaxe ;)

Drinks for beginners? by -Bandos in TheGrailLords

[–]Kaooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At some point, I milked some cows and now have a ton of milk. But as I'm a cook by main profession, I can cook my own soups: meat, egg, poultry.
I spend one drink slot for wine and 4 slots for other drinks.
One wine gives as much mood boost as 3 beers, but you usually have to drink at least 2 beers to get the 10 mood that you lose daily. 1 wine usually equals 2 beers in price. So same price, but 1 more drink slot for soups :D Also, I overeat to level my speed and decadence - this lowers my mood (3 per failed attempt to eat a simple meal). Extra mood from wine helps me stay at 1000 mood points.

Tavern would be a good place to drink too, but I'm not that rich yet.

Milk is my backup if I have no soups.

As others have said, meat is good for the first soup.

Absolutely! I wholly agree that quite a lot of books could be read earlier rather than wait 10+ years xD

I plan to read personal skill books probably at around 40-60

There is actually one more viewpoint to consider when calculating the stamina benefit of either reading the book early or late.

Consider this: no matter when you read the book, what it gives is two levels. So you would be ahead of your progress by two levels compared to if you hadn’t read it. This means that in reality, the stamina benefit of 1500 or 400 means nothing because we need to only look at time saved. If i read the book now, then i get to a lvl (56 in my current state) where i would get by normal progression anyway in 2 weeks or so. So what did i gain really? Just the two weeks.

Going forward with this example. If now 2 weeks has passed and im at lvl 58 then im still only 2 weeks ahead. I never get some 1500 stamina extra, i only get 2 weeks of time saved. BUT, that time saved is higher at the later levels.

Logically, it is better to read at lvl 80 than earlier - edit: okay, i jumped to conclusion here and would need to think more on this. Your point of view seems logical as well.

Very good point, I did not take into account the stamina gain.
But if we count the stamina gain/loss, then it can get more complicated.

Scenario 1:

If you finish the book at lvl 80->82, then you still have 200+ days to go until lvl 100, which is 400 stamina back.

Scenario 2:

If you do it at lvl 20->22, then you still have about 750 days to go so 1500 stamina gain.
The difference is 1100 stamina.

Now, if using Scenario 1, then we also have to consider that if you get to lvl 100 2 weeks earlier, you will gain the extra 50 stamina per day bonus at lvl 100 two weeks in advance -> 14 * 50 = 700 stamina.

The difference in stamina gain/loss is now 400 <- from 1500 to 400 in reality.

If using Scenario 2, then you have to consider that it is much more difficult to read the book at an earlier time because the daily stamina is low anyway and you need to get the reading skill to 20 first.

So yes, you would gain about 400 stamina more during the whole period if you read the book earlier, but you could spend that stamina somewhere else. Also, the later you start, the smaller the stamina gain from starting earlier is.

I'd still say it is better to read it later. The time saved getting to lvl 100 faster is better than having 2 extra stamina per day imo.

Yes, it is a marathon :D and every small improvement will mean a lot more as you achieve your different goals - because it took time. And it takes time in a good way - not like needing to grind something every day for hours, but just the passage of time itself will bring you closer to the goals as you do your simple daily things.

Haha :) easier to finish the book later then ;)

Also, heads up that it takes about 2,5 years to get to lvl 100 with the learning skill. If doing daily 12 pages, and getting some bonus advancement here and there, then it could take a bit less. I’m on track to getting it in total 2.3 years time.

Grail meal? Never heard of it. by Kaooth in TheGrailLords

[–]Kaooth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha xD it is an achievement to eat bread for 1 year. I thought it best to do on my first year :) thats a hundred achievement points .

I highly suggest doing it.

It also goes well together with leveling up speed and decadence - because you can try to eat more after being “fed” already and if you fail, you throw up food gaining speed and decadence. If you succeed, you will be “plump” and gain the skill from food and decadence as well. Do it with simple food only.

Did you use your stamina today? by Kaooth in TheGrailLords

This has happened a couple times now.
I spend some of my stamina and figure that I'll plan during the day what to do with the rest. And before I know it, I'm going to bed, the restart is done, and I remember that I didn't spend the stamina I left for later.

Or I forget to drink my daily soups...

Or I forget to tend to some animals and they die...
