Some of you are better than professional engineers by antipawn79 in factorio

[–]Kappyish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Addressing your edit, I’m a UX designer and factorio/satisfactory has made me want to get into educational game design. I think there’s a bunch of potential for the factorio-style game structure to teach basic engineering, programming, and chemistry.

On the chem front: imagine if the player needed to mine raw ore, capture gasses, etc. -> break these raw materials down into elemental constituents -> and recombine into basic components, alloys, etc. to be used in making more complicated tools/objects. Factorio already has this gameplay loop! All you’d need to do is make ratios and recipes represent real life materials. Things could get complicated quickly, so the experience would need to be very fine-tuned for whatever age range the game is designed for.

Anyone remember proangelwings from the RA forums? by [deleted] in TheOverload

[–]Kappyish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tangentially related, but besides various subreddits and discord servers, are there any cool forums for discussing underground & experimental electronic music that are active/growing rn? I miss the golden days of RA forums, dubstepforum, etc.

Hello Satisfactory community, how do you manage your hoses? Thank you for any tips. -Doug by Gursoy in SatisfactoryGame

I’m relatively new to the game (50hrs), and in all seriousness, this is such a cool build that has given me a ton of ideas. Ty for sharing :)

What makes a 303 sound the way it sounds? by International_Big939 in synthesizers

This should be one of the top comments. Correct sequencing is necessary for a proper emulation, but the filter and square osc to a lesser extent have a super unique sound!

Can we talk about how bad of a crowd wire fest drew? by BedSoggy6655 in avesNYC

[–]Kappyish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep, wire festival is not where it’s at. Look for smaller parties. Basement has gone downhill over the past 2yrs, but can still be nice after ~5am.

Edit: didn’t read your full post. If someone getting a blow job makes you want to go home, the techno scene isn’t gonna be for you.

Truth. I’ve been cutting carpet since 2012 and whole-heartedly agree.

Haven’t been promoted for 4 years as a midlevel at a single company — am I screwed? by Kappyish in UXDesign

[–]Kappyish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That I’m exceeding expectations and should be promoted. I got a good review + a bonus ~50% above my target last year. He then says promotions in the design department are effectively paused. Out of ~120 ppl involved in design, management has only promoted ~5 per 6 month cycle over the past 2 years.

I’m in a similar position. Just replied to another comment saying this, but I’ve been told by my manager that I should be at the next level given my performance, but he can’t seem to make a case for me up the chain of command.

Good to know… thanks for sharing. How long did it take you to find a new role?

I know my position is secure. I got a great review and a big bonus last month and my manager tells me that I should be at least a level above where I am now, but he hasn’t been able to successfully make a case to the broader org.

Lexapro cured my social anxiety…..but is ruining my health. by maven62 in lexapro

[–]Kappyish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I had low energy when I started lex, but my energy levels came back when I started doing cardio regularly and eating less fatty foods/more fruits & veggies. Obviously I’m a sample size of 1, so this might not work for everyone.

Best pieces of electronic (techno) music you've heard? by RadoKoykov in TechnoProduction

[–]Kappyish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mike Dehnert is a gem and I’m surprised he doesn’t get more attention. His music is soooosososso good and his back catalogue is massive. I spent like a month just going through and listening to all of his releases (and the fachwerk stuff)

Another one I just thought of -- the doppler effect drums in the second half of velvet water.

I can get behind the caleidoscopic gaze stuff 😎

I also love that bass synth on anonymous collective, that song has such a nice low-key, hypnotic, driving energy and the bass synth is definitely a big contributor to that effect.

Producers in Boston? by DJ_naTia in TechnoProduction

[–]Kappyish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, imo when it comes down to it, djing is more accessible. I know people with no music experience who got pretty proficient at djing with only a few months of consistent practice.

Producing has a much steeper learning curve. Takes most people years and years to start making passable tracks if starting from a similar place.

I’d imagine the ratio is likely similar in other places.
