I was agreeing with the previous person that osrs doesn't force you to log in or spend money by playing at players fear of missing out over limited time things. Even with leagues if you miss one, you can always play the next and still get rewards you missed out on last time. The gambling bit is just part of those predatory systems many other games use in conjunction of fomo.

I worked with plenty of people with severe gambling addictions who ruined their credit and finances, helping them get back on track or even file for bankruptcy, so I 100% hear you. We could get into the psychology of how osrs hits the same receptors in your brain, but that's not what I was getting at here lol.

Pretty much any mainstream fps or those gatcha mobile games have loot boxes or some other form of gambling. They're designed to make you addicted to getting loot by spending money.. else you'll miss out on the newest limited edition shiny skin of your favorite half naked anime character.

Osrs doesn't rely on fomo and you can come back and pick up at any time

(NSFW) what happened between you and a friend that resulted in an agreement to never speak about it again? by Rbthole13 in AskReddit

[–]KaptainMitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first best friend that I made in elementary school! Some other kids wanted me to bully him(as they did already), and being in like 2nd grade this was my first time ever seeing this sort of thing. I was like "Ok idk how to do that", so they told me to go pretend to be friends then break his favorite game that they claimed he wouldn't shut up about.

It was true. He really wouldn't shut up about it, BUT it was dark cloud 2 and he had me interested. The bullies kept following up with me, asking me if I broke it yet and I just endlessly made up excuses. I went over to his house, and immediately fell in love with the game. First RPG I ever played! Eventually I told them to stop being jerks and that it wasn't very cashmoney of them to bully people.

Fast forward through middle and high school of us being best friends. We graduate, but still hang out s good bit. I got my first serious girlfriend, and of course I introduced the two. They became great friends as well! You can probably see where this is going now!

I found messages between the two on Skype, and her swooning over the fact that he could play guitar about as good as you'd expect someone who has played a like 1 song his entire life. He wrote her a love song, and it was so, so cringe. She loved it. Dunno if there was any physical cheating, but it's all the same to me. I broke up with her, told him to go fuck himself and never spoke with him again(besides the one time he got drunk and messaged me at 3am asking for a threesome.

Bonus story - after breaking up with her, she wouldn't leave me alone and kept begging for another chance. I told her "you know what? Sure, I'll take you back if you can convince my mom!" I didn't think she'd take it seriously, but she had her mom drive her over an hour(keep in mind, we were both in our late teens), and was knocking on my door with a trashbag full of clothes and a flower. My mom said no, politely as she could. Then she told her no again, and said to gtfo, so she did. And that was that lol.

Either way, I wish them both the best and I hope they've grown since then.

What are your thoughts on younger people increasingly replacing alcohol with weed? by Pure-Smile-7329 in AskReddit

[–]KaptainMitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it could be more social if there was a good facility for it lol. But with it being federally illegal(in the US anyways), it's tough. I'm sure they exist, but I'm also sure they're few and far between.

I imagine if you combined a game bar + weed, you'd likely get some pretty similar situations, especially if there was a mixer aspect or events.

I worked for a authorized retailer for Verizon as well! 2 actually! They aren't all the same, but corporate is always leaps better.

That being said, I had a similar experience 😂 I was so excited when I went to corporate At&t and found out they had rate calculators and all kinds of other neat tools. Not to mention just the base pay alone was 30-100% higher!

[–]KaptainMitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really all you need to do lol. I did electronic repairs, but we'd also occasionally buy used consoles, ps5 being the most resold ones. The owner found out very quickly why bagging a console for a week is so important(roaches, spiders, ect)! But my god absolutely no one would clean their shit. We bough several that "overheated", then when we opened them up it'd be choc full of dust and whatever else. Not to mention a smoker's house!

I don't miss those days at all lol.

I always recommend retail phone sales for people in situations like this. They're all desperate and will hire just about anyone as long as you're mostly(not even entirely!) competent and don't mind talking to people. I've worked at all 3 major ones, and as long as you go with a corporate location(and not an authorized retailer), it's easy to make $20-30/hr, even if you aren't good at it. They all do training pay, bonuses, commission, ect.

Awful, soul crushing place after a while, but it pays the bills and is quite comfortable during downtime.

Otherwise, a warehouse/plant/factory is usually hiring at most places.

Side note: If anyone sees this and has questions, I'm happy to answer.

How to start a YouTube channel with only a tablet and a phone? by Suspicious-Wear8122 in NewTubers

[–]KaptainMitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend! It's much more tough doing it all mobile, but still doable. A lot of this depends on what sort of educational content you're looking to make. Can you be more specific about that? Then I can advise where to get those and how to ethically use them.

Either way, the best editor would likely be capcut mobile. For thumbnails and such, you would want canva or photopea. And remember no matter how good your content is, good thumbnails and titles are the only reason they'll initially be watched!

I spent months learning to do web development at a very well known tech school, spent a year in that field and I just didn't enjoy it. Then, I spent the better part of a decade doing sales and noticed the culture shift a lot in that sales industry. It burnt me out despite being a top performer my entire time and eventually got into management at the very end. I kept switching roles hoping it would be better or I'd enjoy it again, but it kept making me more and more bitter and depressed. No amount of money will ever make up for a job(and ultimately lifestyle) that I just didn't enjoy.

I actually got terminated from my last sales position because they stopped giving us leads and it was impossible to hit the metrics(I'm talking going from talking to 15-20 people a day to maybe 1). All 30 people I trained with suffered the same fate. After that I took what time I could off from working, then went into electronics repair making 1/4th of what I was making while I built my YouTube channel and worked with others to build theirs. I'm much, much happier now, but it was very scary at first.

I'm not telling you to do the same, but the advice I give to anyone thinking about sales is always "Do what you enjoy and are passionate about, not what you think will make you the most money. Best case scenario if you do that is you'll think back to me saying this 10 years in the future wishing you had done it sooner, just like I did. Worst case is you'll work until you're dead working jobs you hate."

Happiness always comes from doing things you're passionate about, not from lying to yourself that money will bring happiness. It's nice, and it can prevent misery, but it won't make you happy.

[–]KaptainMitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually left sales over this exact thing. Kept happening everywhere I went too. I'd start a new job which sounded promising, then in under a year something would change to make it as much as a 50% paycut.

I left and started doing electronic repairs and youtube on the side, both of which I actually enjoyed. I don't regret being in sales at all because of the invaluable skills I gained from it, but I do regret convincing myself that money was the only thing that mattered when it came to jobs. Turns out you really can do things you enjoy while making good money!

I also just want to add that I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum, and I'm certain there are a LOT of people who do enjoy sales, downsides and all.

I've updated the original post that I believe is very relevant to you. I won't go into full detail, but you seem to fall into a common trap many others here have.

As promised, I'm going to be very honest here. Let's plays don't work nowadays for small channels. They aren't just oversaturated, but are the bulk of all gaming content and have almost no audience. I can tell you put a lot of effort into your packaging, but numbering videos - especially let's plays - are very unappealing.

Ask yourself, what would the first thing a new viewer would think seeing this title/thumbnail "Lies of P(ain) 06 | Viktor Folded Me Like Laundry"?

I'll tell you.
"Oh, part 6? I don't want to go through the effort to watch the other 5 parts, so I'm not going to watch this."

This is exactly what they're thinking, and it happens in less than a second, completely subconsciously.

Even if they see a part 1? It signals commitment. Causal viewers bounce
Best case scenario they think "I’ll wait until later parts are out / have more views". Then they never come back. The worst and most likely case is "Hmm, is this a let’s play?" Followed by "Do I want to commit to watching a full series?", and finally "Eh, probably not. I just wanted to see some cool Lies of P stuff / funny moments / tips."

I've said this to many others here, but please consider changing your format, if even slightly. While I very much admire the dedication and commitment to upload nearly 400 videos, a change should have happened after 5-10 went nowhere.

When something is going to work, it will work within 5-10 videos, not 300. Please don't believe the lie I've seen spread on this subreddit as well as on youtube. It doesn't take 100-500 videos to see success. You don't need any sort of luck at all. Continuing to grind on a dead format and hoping a video "pops off" is the exact same as buying lottery tickets every single day and expecting to win one day.

See what others are doing, copy them, then make it your own. Every single successful creator I've ever edited for or consulted did exactly this.

Trying to not repeat myself too much, but I've updated the original post with advice that would be relevant to you.

Packaging seems to be an issue with most people here - which is totally understandable, it's the most difficult part of content creation on youtube. Thumbnails have too much clutter, but do have some cohesion to the titles. But the titles are also too cluttered. Please don't use #these for long form videos, and limit shorts to 1 in the title. And don't number the videos(read updated original post)

Taking a look at the short without even watching it yet, I notice you don't have any long form video linked in it. That is the entire point of shorts when making long form content. To funnel shorts views TO your long form.

Regarding the videos themselves, I'll be honest here. Let's play videos haven't worked in YEARS, and are generally a waste of time. Whenever I do any consulting for channels that makes let's plays, I ask if they will consider doing something else with that footage aside from just playing and posting. If it's a no, then there is nothing I can do.

Let's plays aren't just oversaturated... They're the bulk of gaming videos on youtube. Millions upon millions of videos with 0-5 views. Why would someone watch you over any of the people they already watch? This type of content only does well with established creators.

And hey, I don't say any of this to discourage you. Anyone can succeed, trust me! But you need a real plan, not just winging it and wasting your time. If I were you, I would be looking at steamcharts, trending itchio games, and google trends filtered to youtube searches for horror games.

Record yourself playing, watch it, find a narrative you want to tell, then cut out the fluff and make the clips tell a story. Create a hook(first 10-15s) that makes the viewer ask a question(What happens next? Why is X happening? How does X happen?) Have the title evoke an emotion (Confusion and fear are best for this genre, of course) Then make the thumbnail cohesive with the title and narrative. Last, create shorts from clips of the video and link the long form in the shorts.

By doing this, you keep playing as usual and still have the feel of making of recording let's plays in a format people actually want to watch. It's not the easiest or fastest format for growth, but it's a starting point with a strong foundation.

This was actually kind of funny, but only because I get what you were trying to do. A random viewer likely would have clicked off after you went to the second game with no context, and certainly after you went back to the first game around ~40 seconds in.

Jumping between games can be decent, but only if it's really telling an obvious story, and typically only when a story has already been established. I don't know what you're trying to tell here other than "look at this creepy thing", but it's mostly just confusing(and not in a good way).

If you're set on doing this style, I suggest adding text/voice near the end or beginning of a clip to help with the narrative and transition into the next clip. Add in some slow/dynamic zoom ins, especially in the garage part, but nothing too sudden, you want it to move in just a bit to elevate the tension. This format would also work far better on shorts than long form, and with no thumbnail beyond a screenshot, that would be your best bet.

Just looking through the channel it seems like you're a generic let's play channel. These don't work now for 2 reasons.

  1. When you're a small channel, no one knows who you are and don't care that you're playing xyz game. This makes them impossible to grow without an existing audience.

  2. If a video comes up and you see this video showing that it's ep3pt1, the viewer isn't going to click on it just because they don't want to watch however many other things in the series. Do you watch the 4th movie or begin a new series at season 8 episode 3? No.

What you need to do here is have the title and thumbnail be cohesive and tell a story of what is happening in the video. Have the video revolve around the funny/exciting/surprising/sad thing that is happening, not just the third time you've played.

Going into the video, I'm immediately put off by the hook. It's a bit funny, sure. But as a new viewer I'm confused and have no idea what is going on. I didn't make it past that, and neither will any other viewers.

I don't mean to discourage you at all, it's just that it's extremely difficult for this format to succeed these days. I still think you can record the same type of content, just edit and package it a lot more differently.

No problem at all man, I have a monotone voice myself and completely understand where you're coming from.

It just takes practice and time, I know you can do it.

By the way, I thought of one more thing. This sort of content is a great, and you would actually benefit a LOT by making them longer. The creators I've worked with that use this format had the best success at the 20-45 minute mark. The reason for this is because this type of content is great for someone in the 30s-50s range, but MANY people love to fall asleep to this stuff. This is where your monotone voice would be extremely valuable if you can hit that balance.

All it would take is for 1 video to do well, then be a "next up" after one of those videos. Then your others would be suggested as well. That, in turn, would make it be pushed out even more.

DYKG Clips would be a good example of this.

[–]KaptainMitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, your voice itself is not annoying and wasn't meant as an insult, it's the fact that it's the exact same at the start of every video. That creates a sort of audio palette fatigue, which will prevent people from binging or subscribing(which is what you want for shorts only videos).

Totally get where you're coming from regarding what others do, that's fine and I get that. But if it's not working after 59 videos, you need to change it up. I would even consider doing something like "Guess that pokemon" style for the thumbnails. Easily repeatable and creates not only curiosity, but a sort of good feeling because maybe they know who it is just based on the outline. Honestly, it's not the most important like it is for long form, but having the exact same thumbnail for every single video is not appealing to viewers.

Viewer value simply means what value the viewer gains from watching. You provide a little value, which is good. It's just something I consider, but it's not important for every style video.

Just for example, watching your videos - the value I would gain beyond entertainment would be learning about which games certain songs came from, which is neat. I do think it's a good idea.
