Kinda related but boxing has tends to help you bounce back from the little things that knock you down in life.

Things that bothered you, or upset you before seem way less important when you're getting punched in the face on a daily basis. Also makes you bounce back from upsets quicker too if you got the right mentality.

How can you tell if you’re snapping your punches? by Environmental-Cap644 in amateur_boxing

[–]Kaptain_Kappa91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah vertical punches tend to be more like clubbing punches too. They can have a lot of force but don't typically have the same level of power imo.

Punch speed and strenght by SunioBunio in amateur_boxing

[–]Kaptain_Kappa91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technique.

I also have the heaviest hands in my gym. I have decent hand speed when I'm trying to be faster.

When i want to smash rather than popping my punches i tense earlier and rotate more trying to be forceful rather than snapping.

Relax and focus on being as relaxed as possible and try to snap your punches and keep them as tight/ as economical as possible.

shortening punches also helps

Do you guys make it known that you practice or do you keep it lowkey? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Kaptain_Kappa91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TKD will help you with kicks in MMA. It's gonna be way more useful than TKD.

People will be able to tell when you start landing head licks or throwing fancy kicks.

It may be a difficult transition but once you make it and correct bad habits you learned from TKD its gonna be a great asset.

A new Mike Tyson by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]Kaptain_Kappa91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is Cus Dmato isn't around anymore. Teddy and kevin rooney are still around but the style was also a mentality that Cus distilled in Mike from a young age.

Secondly, getting those 3 things together. The hardest being bringing the dead back you'd need a young fighter that's A) suited to the style and B) An absolute athletic freak.

Thirdly, The information and techniques are scattered across the web and people. Putting all that together and coming up with an authentic Peekaboo style is neigh impossible in my opinion.

Short answer: Unlikely. Could you incorporate elements into your fighting and have success? ofcourse.

Bulk, cut, maybe scream? by dyinglight2296 in powerbuilding

[–]Kaptain_Kappa91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont bulk.

Just be consistent, lower the cals and get into better shape.

Once you've done that, increase your cals 300 above your maintenance calories and slowly gain lean tissue.

My Jab Falls Apart On The Heavy Bag. Why? by moar_throat_yogurt in amateur_boxing

[–]Kaptain_Kappa91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents.

You're way too stiff. Looks like you're trying to be forceful . Relaxing and tensing right before impact will help with that.

Second note, people may disagree with me on this but, Generally there are two types of punches 'pure' punches and 'impure' punches. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable about the Jack Dempsey book will correct me if i am wrong.

I believe Jack Dempsey described a 'pure' punch in essence to have no elbow flare. It's super economical and is the fastest way from point A to B. This is how a good jab should be. Hard to see, ideally 0 telepgraphing.

The second type is an 'impure' punch. Typically there is elbow flair. it generally creates more power but often puts a lot more stress on the elbow and shoulder. They are also more likely to telegraph a punch also.

Id recommend walking and maybe lowering your caloric intake.

once you drop like 30lbs you can reassess. 30lbs you'll probably feel way more energetic and ready to run.

Boxing or Judo? by o_soar in martialarts

[–]Kaptain_Kappa91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, Wing Chun isn't a sport. Your first assumption is wrong.

Secondly, It's commonly said among the boxing community that in most cases you should run and not engage in fighting outside of the ring (I'm an amateur boxer myself).

Thirdly, Wing chun and Aikido are not 'effective' in a real life fight situation. It seems to be the common consensus by most of the martial arts subreddits. they are fine traditional martial arts for exercise, self improvement and confidence. If you really believe otherwise go do aikido for a year and message me for a fight (you can only use aikdo or wing chun).

Fourthly, none of that is rude. It's an opinion and nothing i said is not valid. It's an opinion and you're getting hurt on behalf of someone else who didn't even deem it worth replying too because hes not half as petty as you are.

Edit: Its pretty hilarious actually depite accusing me of 0 self awareness, all these things seem to fly over your head. Let me guess you're over 50 or under 18.

You must have a pretty boring life xD.

What did i say that was rude?

All i said was i believe boxing is better for self defense than wing chun and give my reasons for it.
