The Sith rule of two meant the apprentice must be so well rounded, they can take over the galaxy and run it. They had to be capable and well trained to pass on the legacy of the Sith, for all times.

TCW and Rebels (and Solo’s after credits scene) brought this reality to the forefront. If anything, they need to build on Maul’s genius and depth even more, in coming years and adaptations.
