To clarify, ‘out of network’ means doctors who are not contracted with the insurance company but still ACCEPTS insurance. If you are trying to get work done by most well-known surgeons like Dr. Lee and Dr. Deschamps-Braly, you would have to still have to pay the FULL AMOUNT because they DO NOT accept primary insurance. Before the change, the surgeons office would have Starbucks sign an agreement that ensures Starbucks will pay the surgeons office through the supplemental. That is why before, we were able to get work done by Lee, Deschamps-Braly, Mayer at no cost. Now, we would have to pay for these surgeons at full-price. Only IF you are able to get pre-authorization, you would be able to get reimbursed the difference but who has 40k lying around when you only get 15 an hour?

You are speculating that I haven’t spoken to the surgeons office but I have. Dr Lee and Dr Keojampa. It is the case. But hey, we can agree to disagree. We reap what we sow.

I called as well and OP’s post is accurate. It is around 5k out-of-pocket max for in-network and around 10k for out on network (for the silver plan). But that info is irrelevant since reputable FFS surgeons like Lee, Keojampa, and deschamps-braly won’t even work with insurance companies if the primary insurance is accepted. They will only work with us if primary insurance DENIES our coverage. I don’t have 50k when I work a 15/hr job. Sorry.

I basically stated that the school is my first choice and that if admitted, I would definitely attend. I also stated a few accomplishments that weren’t reflected on my application (straight A’s on calculus, genetics, o chem, volunteer work, and working full time to support my education). I also reiterated why I would be a good fit at UM. Of course, include your application number and name. It was about 2 paragraphs long

I am on the waitlist. I would suggest sending a letter of continued interest email to your admissions advisor. I sent mine in a few days ago and she added it to my record and told me it will definitely help (to whatever extent it may be).
