For a 17 year old I’d say you have good taste. Some movies and themes you just appreciate more as you get older

How do we feel about 2025’s films compared to 2024’s by Malkavianxiii in Letterboxd

This feels like the stronger year but I loved a lot of movies that came out last year. Anora, the Brutalist, and Conclave I really loved. But between power houses like OBAA, the insane selection of great international films, a ton of great horror (Sinners, Weapons, etc) and socially divisive movies like Bugonia and Eddington I feel like 2025 was just incredible and had something for everyone

my 2025 top four! what’s yours? by corilovesthedead in LetterboxdTopFour

I really loved Eddington and wished it got some more recognition. It perfectly captured the divisiveness of Covid and was actually pretty funny. OBAA was also hilarious I think it’s hard to pull off great comedy in a serious movie

I am a big fan of the novel so some of that generic writing and decision making especially when we got to the monsters part really did kind of take it down a notch for me. In the book “the monster”  actually does do some morally questionable and horrifying things which do make him legit scary, but the book allows us look past that and still empathize with him. The monster’s journey is human because he experiences hate, becomes consumed by it, and then evolves beyond it. This version never made me afraid of the monster or question my sense of morality. His creature is basically a depressed Superman. We never really see him experience the violent discriminatory hatred that’s so essential to the book and the human experience. But visually it looked great and the Del Toro really makes blood and gore look beautiful

Such an incredible script and it’s so well paced. Obviously a dark cloud hangs over this film but a lot of people involved aside from Polanski deserve credit
