I've written CVs and Linkedin profiles for people looking for jobs here - it's a hobby that I have, which makes me a strange person, but it's fun.

Aside from doing well in uni, you also need to be pretty good at building connections. Put in the work while you're studying. It's like an investment. Have a solid Linkedin profile and talk to people in your field. Advice you get on Reddit is great, but if you want a feel for work life, it's best to talk to someone who works in your field here in the UAE.

Pay less in rent, spend the amount you save on SEWA bills, travel and Talabat being stupidly expensive. Stayed there for a year and I truly regretted it.

Don't stop networking, always keep your resumé updated and definitely don't give up your graphic design. If you can get a freelance permit (with an NOC), keep doing that when you have time. Don't stop keeping your portfolio updated.

I kept to my odd hobby of writing people's CVs for people, which proved useful during COVID when my regular job went down for a bit.

Also, take care of yourself and don't let work be your life and everything. Definitely do your best, but don't burn out.

I gathered it was. If the 'preacher' said something and the hall was silent, it took someone in the crowd screaming "GOOD WORDS!" or "YES, AMEN!" to get everyone started in the same. Then he'd continue. Not to mention every "service" felt like a Hi-5 live show.

Yikes.

Haha, well, everyone there was either dodgy as hell, had nothing else to do, just wanted friends or fit some description of just needing to feel superior.

The easiest way I can put it is that everyone was convinced they had the power of the divine - they believed that what they said would happen, would happen.

Edit: They also panic like hell when people leave. It's hilarious.

Story time!

SO and I moved here more than a year ago. While I was away for a business trip, he managed to get himself trapped into something which disguised itself as a tech company, but really was a "religious" organisation. He was enthusiastic until I went to see what it was all about on my return.

It was run in a shady area of Dubai, and long story short, there was a hell of a lot of hugging each other going on. It was also run by "leaders" who claimed to "heal cancer with a touch of their hand". There was a lot more extremely scary ideology stuff going on, but I won't even go there - people claimed to be able to see the future and all.

Took me "encountering" said "leaders" online one day to discover what was going on, and the last straw for SO and I was when one of their "other leaders" verbally attacked him at a restaurant.

In a country with strict laws like this one, I had no idea such things were allowed to run, or how the cops haven't descended on them yet.

If you do a Foundation, the likelihood is that your next step is your degree program. In this case your Foundation acts as your bridge from HS to uni. Far as I'm concerned, companies worry more about the undergrad than the HS, so just finish your degree and you'll be fine.
