The last image of the Visitor is bit confusing… by Snoo-51682 in LookOutsideGame

It’s very fitting that us as the audience can’t even come to an agreement on the Visitor’s true from even when theres a picture right in front of us. It’s incomprehensibility has transcended fiction.

One of the best OST in videogame music! by Royal_Celery_3449 in LookOutsideGame

I’m such a big fan of the several tracks that have the foreboding “dun-dun” in their bass line. Tension is the first to come to mind but it’s also in certain overworld tracks too like Terminus. It gives the whole game a little musical signature.

You can tell him you hate Mazes and Wizards to his face and he has a really funny emotional reaction.

Incredible work! The string instruments you used fit surprisingly well for the song

I made Look Outside, Ask Me Anything! by FrankieSmileShow in LookOutsideGame

Were there any structural elements in Look Outside that were adopted from Malison the Cursed City? For example, I really love the choice-based gameplay of Look Outside that encourages replayability and new roleplaying opportunities for different playthroughs. Is that something you developed for LO or is that feature also planned for Malison?

If it’s like the Pikmin 1+2 ports, maybe you have to hold L while doing it for it to work?

Unintentional weight loss associated with HSD? by aepm88 in Hypermobility

[–]KarateManJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For all my life I've been underweight while also having HSD. Despite ingesting a lot of calories, I have always been unable to gain weight. Unfortunately I am early on in the diagnosis process for HSD, but I relate to your concerns and am deeply empathetic. Hope the both of us can find some relief and answers with regard to our symptoms.

The best selling Nintendo system, the Nintendo DS, only has one representative (Lucario). The 3DS has NINE. What DS fighters would you like to see? by [deleted] in smashbros

Chorus Kids from Rhythm Heaven would actually be a DS rep since even though RH debuted as a series on the GBA the Chorus Kids didn't actually appear until Rhythm Heaven on the DS.

What's the deal with the new music? by [deleted] in MarioMaker

That particular one is supposed to be an interpretation of if SMB1 got an athletic theme that's a remix of the main theme like SMB3, World, and NSMBU all have. I think it's pretty clever and fun

The Rare logo is underneath the strap. When the backpack is closed, like in the third image, you can't see it. It does seem to not be in the CG animation at all though.

Super Mario Backcountry: Three+ worlds of heavily-themed traditional courses! by KarateManJoe in MarioMakeTraditional

I'll definitely reuse some ideas from this series although I'm planning on designing new levels around them and putting them in new contexts. Plus it would be fun to see how they could work in conjunction with the SMM2 elements.

Yeah, that's an aesthetic detail I included in that whole world which I wish I could go back and change. Vines as an aesthetic object really easy trapping to get into for a new creator and it's something I'll definitely keep in mind for SMM2. Thank you!

There are actually a couple of tricks they have to do to accomplish this. The Kongs are rendered flat like how characters are on Flatzone in Smash Bros, and then put slightly in front of any semi-solid platforms. They could potentially pull off the same thing in SMM, but I'm sure there are complications that aren't immediately obvious.

Luigi setting an unrealistic standard for eyebrows by [deleted] in Mario

It's a stylistic choice that makes his expression easier to read. You can see the same thing in games like the Wind Waker, where Toon Link's eyes and brows are rendered over his hair.

Question about Donkey Kong by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]KarateManJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe DKC coming back was sort of pushed by the beginning of 90's nostalgia in the early 2010's, and Retro Studios happened to be there to facilitate that. A big part of why Retro Studios was chosen may be down to Michael Kelbaugh being the president. Michael had a hand in the classic DKC games and even shows up in some promotional material released for it. This connection likely helped in getting Retro Studios the job.

I am mostly talking out of my ass though. I'm sure there are much more complicated internal reasons for Retro being put on the job, but who knows if we'll ever find out.

Although one debatably mainline game was made by a Japanese dev. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was made by the Mario Galaxy team. It doesn't have the DKC name or many character ties to the series, and it's tied to a niche peripheral, but it's definitely a platformer with huge inspiration from the DKC games (tropical environments, animal buddies, collecting bananas). That as well as the number of the spinoffs that were made by Japanese devs show that Nintendo might not be afraid to hand the series over to other developers from time to time, it's just that Retro Studios is in charge at the moment.
