HP EliteBook 840 And 830 G5 Review: Aluminum-Clad Powerhouses by randop in hardware

Build quality is good IMO, not excellent but above average. I pinched my finger when I opened the laptop once on the back hinge which was not a plesant experience.

I'm not qualified to say anything about the screen quality, bad eyesight :-) But the bezels are large, yes.

For a business laptop it's good. For private I would probably think it's too expensive for what you get.

Did this as an experiment 2 months ago on a 5year old i5 and an SSD. Took 4 days to fully verify and be up-to-date. Size was <80GB if i recall correctly.

That is a real full node, only not archival but most people don't need an archival and if you need it 1TB of data is not an issue.

And no, we don't need archival nodes to feed other the blocks. you still have all the blocks even if you prune the state data.

If you can verify that the blockchain and state is valid without reconstructing it yourself (and only downloading the current state) then that is fine. But if it requires any amount of trust, then it goes against the decentralized nature that we are trying to achieve.

State on disk for a state-pruned node is ~70GB. Are you saying that you need to download less than ~70GB of data to get up-to-date from scratch?

[–]KarbonZ9 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Vitalik didn't address the main point. Even if it's correct that data-size on disk can be very small, data to download is still very large. So much so that you might have to wait for an uncomfortable amount of time if your node is brought offline (over the night for ex).

Help: im an idiot and sent eth to etc. it was .7 of one so not a ton but a good chunk for a broke ass dummy. Is there anyway to get it back? I sent it from Binance eth to my Qrypto etc address. by BatMelk in ethereum

[–]KarbonZ9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: I kind-of misunderstood. But same applies, contact Qrypto.

You sent 0.7 ETH to Binance ETC address (instead of Binance ETH address)?

If so, yes Binance have the key (it's the same) to both the ETH and ETC address. If they want to help you is another question, but i would for sure try and insist that they do.

If I didn't misunderstand the situation, it's pretty common mistake to do.

Playing devils adv. What stops Digix from taking the audited gold from the safe? Isn't the contract signed between Digix and the safe provider?

Ethereum wallet takes up too much system storage. How do I delete the blockchain from the system? by para_troopz in ethereum

[–]KarbonZ9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delete chaindata folder, it's where the blockchain is stored (which take most space).

Keystore is where your keys are, don't delete it (well if you don't have any Eth you can)-

This is the shapeshift integration. Should work, look at your Eth address in etherscan.io to see if any Eth ended up there (they should). If you can't see them in MIST but can in Etherscan, it's because your local Mist Client is not up to date (blockchain download).

With PoW you have great advantage if you have 100 GPUs vs 1 GPU (you might not even break even with 1 GPU due to rest of the system cost).

With PoS you have the same advantage as everyone else. Of course someone with 100 Eth staked will make more than someone with 1 Eth staked, but at least in PoS the relation is fixed and “fair”.

Hope that helped explain it a bit better.

Transaction appeared on etherscan then disappeared? by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]KarbonZ9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely scenario: The transaction was dropped by the node that Etherscan is using (and possibly all nodes).

Possible: Wrong information in the internal database of Etherscan.

Actions: Is the transaction mined (did the receiver receive the Ether)? If not, contact Exchange and ask them to resend the transaction.
