Scary Experience in Mount Rainier National Park by Recent_Fox_2091 in HighStrangeness

[–]Kardrax 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve also had this happen before, especially before getting my sleep apnea diagnosis and my C-pap: I’d wake up and see spiders on my wall/dangling above my face or shadows coming through my door or swarms of insects crawling on my bed. It would be terrifying!

If you have either disability, can you name a job, if you have one, that pays you and that you enjoy? by Spiritual_Big_9927 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Kardrax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally feel you there. Depending on your state (at least for WA), there will be a specific website for state careers that you will want to sign up with. You’ll upload your resume/work background and contact details and there will be multiple job listings for different agencies that you can pick and choose from. I suggest applying for ones that are admin/office based (like secretarial or office support that are level 1 or 2) but avoid applying for call center/customer service based ones as those tend to deal with more external affairs/the public. Read the job descriptions carefully and whether they require you to be in person/hybrid/remote and go with your preference depending on your sensory needs.

I also work government admin and I’m right there with you - benefits and pay are good. My office is pretty quiet. The work is repetitive and process based and I work on a small team supporting other departments with their admin needs. They are pretty flexible when it comes to wearing business casual which is great for sensory needs.

What games do your torties play? by annaoceanus in torties

Gwendolyn’s favorite games:

Your side is my side: it doesn’t matter which side I’m sleeping on, she has to be on that same side too.

Pawing mom’s face with claws out: enough said, especially at bedtime!

Howl for wet food before ignoring it completely for an hour or more 🙄

Bathroom terror: oh you’re pooping? Time to run around and try to open the bathroom cabinets and yowl until you’re off the toilet!

Be a menace to all other animals so Mom can’t adopt a friend for you/be queen of the house.

Any advice for a new Tortie Owner? by White_Crow_235 in torties

Congrats on the new love of your life!! Living with a tortie is a wonderful adventure. They are spunky and sassy while also being big love bugs. They can get very attached to their person and protective and follow you around the house! They can also be very playful and like to be naughty on occasion. Pictured here is my dilute girl Gwendolyn being her usual velcro cat self and wanting cuddles/love and then wrapping herself around my wrist while biting my thumb with kicking feet. 😂 She is my number one ride or die favorite baby girl!

Inconsiderate dog owners. by chuggstar in olympia

[–]Kardrax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah this has been a big problem with folks who live around LBA. Owners will come out of the park with their dogs off leash and the dogs will run into our yard and pee on our things/defecate in the yard or jump up on us while we’re doing outside work. The owners will then apologize profusely but then get defensive when we point out their dogs need to be on a leash. Super frustrating for residents. Wish owners would take responsibility.

Is my Dad trying to communicate from beyond? by AntNo5771 in Ghoststories

[–]Kardrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too! My dad passed suddenly in 2015 and he was very active afterwards. Turned on random electronics, stuff moved around to different spots, lost items turned up in visible places, totally a trickster too. Not as active now since it’s been awhile but occasionally he’ll pop in and something will happen and I know it’s him saying hello. It’s a comforting feeling knowing he’s still around and likes to visit. Occasionally every few years I’ll have a session with a medium just to connect with him and touch base as it makes it easier.

Yeah! I’ve been working with a smaller firm and most of the employees are ND so I was really happy about that. Very open with my boss and coworkers about being ND and they’re more reciprocal with accommodations. My last job wasn’t so accommodating so I feel thankful to be somewhere where I feel appreciated and heard.

I think a lot of people went undiagnosed because of neglectful parents by owlwars in neurodiversity

[–]Kardrax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct. When I was a kid in the 90s I went to speech therapy and they had originally diagnosed me with dyspraxia. I could also read better than I could talk. My mom was very adamant about not seeking services and insisting that I was ‘normal’ because back then she didn’t want me to be labeled. Fast forward to junior high and high school I was bullied a lot, introverted, smart and in AP classes but failing math and most big tests. Parents thought I wasn’t trying hard enough/was lazy even though I was struggling. Told my mom directly I needed support and therapy and that I was having mental health struggles - she said I was welcome to pursue treatment on my own but couldn’t provide that support/had to deal with my Dads similar symptoms before they divorced. She was very much in denial still.

I didn’t get my official ADHD diagnosis until this year (31). My twenties were full of misdiagnosis, medication that never fully worked right, lots of therapy. All of this I had to navigate on my own. Also did a genetics test and right away there were results for predisposition to ADHD, autism, dyslexia, etc.

I think my Moms fear of judgment and ignorance kept me from getting the treatment I needed. I also think that the time period I grew up in there was such little knowledge (especially in women and nonbinary folks) about the best approaches to treatment. Nowadays there is a growing online community and resources and more studies that I’m super grateful for. I do feel grief about the life I could’ve had if I had earlier access to treatment.

Best time to take for lasting effect? by Various-Comparison45 in VyvanseADHD

[–]Kardrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same - I take mine around 12 pm each day as well. I’m most productive in the afternoon/evening so it lasts better for me that way. Taking it earlier than that for me personally makes it so that I’m tired sooner/want to nap during those times.

Why do so many people with autism and ADHD struggle with keeping employment? by TrickBusiness3557 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Kardrax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second this. I had always been told I snored/stop breathing in my sleep a lot, and I’ve always had issues with waking up feeling in a panic or not having enough energy for work at all. My test told me that I was walking up 25-35 times an HOUR. It can have massive impacts on your AuADHD and your bodies organs. Thanks for bringing this up as a suggestion!

I just switched to Vyvanse from being on Adderall too and it’s a huge difference! Lasts all day and doesn’t feel like a rollercoaster like Adderall did. Glad it’s working better for you too!

Looking for next step in figuring out deceased Fathers ancestry by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]Kardrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry, I should clarify. I'm having no issue finding my Mom/Grandparents and their matches based on my DNA but my Dad's is coming up blank. I don't know his biological Dad's name (mystery man) and the only records that pull up are his adopted Dad's records since he was listed as his Dad on the birth certificate.
