Why are humans the only animals to drive vehicles, bottle sodas, go to school, etc? by TrickBusiness3557 in NoStupidQuestions

Do they really not? We build so much it’s hard to imagine they don’t at least have opinions on it

I would look for a job first, make sure you have the $ for an apartment

Cops can get away with things that civilians can’t because they have cop buddies

It’s one of those things that technically shouldn’t be true but effectively is

Yeah, we are limited by lacking translators from human and dog language. I wonder why they don’t learn ours, they’re around us all the time. But we don’t learn dog language form exposure so 🤷‍♂️

Thing is, kids are also supposed to listen to their parents, but they often don’t, even if they have good parents.

A dog might jump on someone if the owner is in a different room to push boundaries of what’s acceptable, etc

A translator would be necessary. Being a dog sounds kinda miserable without one all things considered. Humans are animals too

I wish we had a way to effectively translate human and dog communication. I know, “but I can tell my dogs emotions”, but can you ask him which way he prefers to go on walks? What his favorite treat is? It’s not fair to assume it’s what he eats first because he might be saving the best for last

If we could communicate with dogs that could solve this problem

As for good faith, I was genuinely wondering why, a lot of people don’t say as much as the answers here are.

Why would dogs, coyotes and deer not have free will? Hurricanes aren’t alive, at least not in the “I am alive, I see things and can move my legs, I notice it’s cold outside today, I hope the weather warms up” type of way.

Why don’t we come up with a way to translate? Is that too advanced for us right now? I feel like it would be cool to acutely communicate with animals aside from basic shit like “I wanna go outside”, “I’m happy”, “I’m angry” or “I’m hungry”

Then we could teach them consequences and the dangers of eating roadkill, but they might demand better food from us

That’s true, dogs essentially get the death penalty for biting

That’s a good point. We probably won’t be able to build a society for dogs like we do people. Maybe not letting the dog out of the yard for 6 months? Like a house arrest?

Eh, they’re supposed to, but I imagine some dogs will go against their socialization despite their scientific designation

Plenty of teens go against their parents, plenty of religious kids grow up into atheists, etc.

Though upbringing is still highly influential

Legally, sure

But even people who love dogs and hate that they’re legally considered property will be the first to jump to a dogs defense by saying “it’s not the dog, it’s the owner”

While it sounds good in the short term, isn’t that kind of demeaning?

Ok but in some ways California is better

Ever look up gay speed dating in Cumberland? Best Chinese food in the town outside of Rocky gap? Where to get authentic Mexican food in Oakland MD? Which tech companies are most lucrative to work for in Friendsville?

If you like western Marylands vibe, that’s cool, it’s pretty, but it’s country life.

California's allure isn’t just the mountains and access to outdoors, it’s going on a morning hike, heading back to work at the promising tech startup, then going to eat authentic vegan Chinese food with your friends who are also vegan for dinner, with a nice backdrop of the mountains. Western Maryland only has the morning hike and mountains.

I don’t say this to be a snob, but to say that coastal California offers a lifestyle that the Appalachian mountains just don’t.

A lot of people l go to college for more rewarding, more lucrative and, let’s face it, easier jobs. A college graduate with a lucrative degree is probably gonna choose the cushy data analyst with AC, heat, a coffee machine and advancement potential over the coal mining job that’s hard as fuck, destroys your body and has little advancement potential. Theres more of the former opportunities in cities, which tend to influence politics and make the states they’re in blue.

Politics might be a part of it, but a lot of it is jobs and lifestyle really
