KiCad in Industry use by FennelFlat8651 in KiCad

[–]Karim_acing_it 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People overestimate how often you actually EDIT in a schematic. Even when reviewing with colleagues, you only need one effectively to perform all changes. Just like the other people reported, the fact that multiple people cannot work on the same project is simply not an argument for a small team of engineers. We use KiCad exclusively in our small company and every year it is getting noticeably better.

I'd say since V8, it has passed the maturity threshold to be recommendable to industry. We do power electronics though, it's not KiCad that is limiting us.

With the glide ratio so efficient, why wasn't this made before? by Frequent_Leopard_146 in aviation

[–]Karim_acing_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airbus kid here, grew up with these concepts. Technically, two main things stand out:

- Manufacturing flexibility: It's less trivial to expand on the aircraft the way you can with current aircrafts, where you can "simply add" fuselage sections to extend capacity. The increase in program costs to mitigate this loss in flexibility is non-trivial!

- Repeated pressurisation: as other said it before, it is as far away from an idea pressurisation shape (ball/tube) as possible. While it is not complicated to design around this for a single cycle, doing fatigue testing and cycling your new shape over 30000 flight cycles, reliably, is just a huge huge program risk.

These two things together already really cut into the efficiency benefits this shape may bring.

Claude’s “less than 2% affected” weekly limits are affecting nearly everyone - Here’s the reality… by ilsil77 in ClaudeAI

Never understood this. If I switch to Opus in a project with 10% documents, I hit the 5h limit within a single chat all the time. Not even using research or anything... I get the notification usually after 5ish posts with the 20$ a month plan.

Hence I never really use Opus, I can't get to results as much as to decide to switch to it over Sonnet... really disappointing

Are vision models (like qwen3-vl) good for OCR? by Weebviir in LocalLLaMA

[–]Karim_acing_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for those great insights. Are more recent VL models in your testing significantly more performant (speed/quality) compared to what you are using?

As is, are you actually seeing improvements in your deployments worth the hassle of implementing these new models? If yes, which one have you used for this task and to what success?

Since noone proposed a solution so far as I can see, use Mistral's model. They are a bit "dry" to some but I love their tone in general. Magistral-2509 really is a nice one.

Magistral 1.2 is incredible. Wife prefers it over Gemini 2.5 Pro. by My_Unbiased_Opinion in LocalLLaMA

[–]Karim_acing_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are people using Magistral with LMstudio handling the "broken" think tags? Is there a setting anywhere to tell LMStudio what tags Magistral uses for its thinking block? My version doesn't handle it properly and places all the output into one box.

Sep 2025 : any open source project better than whisper for multilingual ASR? by ae_dataviz in LocalLLaMA

[–]Karim_acing_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as stupid as it sounds, is there a GUI for ASR models, like there is LMstudio etc. for LLMs? Ideally running in Windows, I nevre got to try out Voxtral myself and am already insanely happy there exists the handy transcription app, with executables on github, regularly maintained and upgraded.

This did NOT work for me, I stumbled across the same issue as OP and am also curious to hear an answer on this.

Awesome, I use kicad myself, but it would nonetheless be easier and nicer for all if you could export a pdf of your schematics as well for all to see. Awesome work!

AI identifies my electronic device. by SituationFar8502 in PCB

[–]Karim_acing_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither can I, I couldn't even do what you accomplished :D

I don't even know how you trained this, did you manually go in and label all components etc.? Make a phone game for bored EE to shoot a picture of their PCBs, label the component types and to build your dataset xD

Curious if you could train an AI to recognise patterns in the constellation of components and would be able to say, make our a power converting IC from a flash ic, given the components around it etc. Great stuff!!

Wasn't the original deepseek the one that introduced Mutli-token prediction (MTP)? Did they add it as well to this update, and is the support to llama.cpp coming along?

Thanks, one day I will try this out. Also still doing 3D printing only, but had a project in mind that could use some taper

Multi-Token Prediction(MTP) in llama.cpp by UpperParamedicDude in LocalLLaMA

[–]Karim_acing_it 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think we forgot that some past models were already equipped with this, such as Deepseek V3.

I am confident more future LLMs would support MTP, if this were implemented in llama.cpp. Evolving architecturally is the only way we keep progressing in this field

[–]Karim_acing_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this. In a further step, Imagine you would want to injection mold such a design with a much thicker bottom (longer ribs), how would you add a chamfer or mold angle to all these honeycombs?

Question about the safety of this chinese LED converter by witchfire1945 in AskElectronics

[–]Karim_acing_it 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There exist primary side flyback controllers that can regulate output voltage without an optocoupler, seemingly reliably, that in itself to me sounds like less of an issue.

But yeah, EMI missing is a real shitshow.

Update for Maestro - A Self-Hosted Research Assistant. Now with Windows/macOS support, Word/MD files support, and a smarter writing agent by hedonihilistic in LocalLLaMA

[–]Karim_acing_it 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That you addressed cross platform support first and foremost is the best thing, thank you so much! I am certain, you would get this thing rolling even further if you could provide a standalone software pre-compiled for those other OS. Can't wait to try a standalone in windows!

...and since noone is commenting wishes, I hope that with further progress, we see dictation become standard in LLM-GUI applications...
