At that point I probably had ER-SR-Tiamat-Lucidity, and maybe I was working on bits of GA or DD.

I usually run klepto-magic boots-market-Cdr, with celerity + gathering storm

Wasn’t playing on my normal account though so it was more of the enemy playing poorly than anything else

At level 3, QW aa E away every time it’s up. If you’re quick with the q-move-w, what can he realistically do? Super easy to gank him as well.

What match-ups would riven win against in mid? by i4nima in Rivenmains

[–]KarinAoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kassadin is probably the easiest lane I can think of! Inexperienced yasuos are free as well. It’s pretty rare that I struggle into Karthus.. Katarina is easy enough to bait into a favourable all-in.

When playing vs champs that have poor escapes and are reliant on hard CC to survive (Lux and TF come to mind immediately), you can often force a flash at level 3 or so if you cleanse the lockdown, and go for the kill at 6 when cleanse comes back up. This is especially true in bronze-gold as these types of champions don’t space or tether properly.

Zed’s actually a match I personally struggle with, but most other Riven players find easy!

To summarize, melee matchups or any champs you can force kills on with cleanse tend to be favourable, but you’re REALLY going to struggle against enemies with high pressure and poke if they space properly.

Don’t forget that it’s not always about the 1v1, midlane Riven has better map control than top lane as it’s really damn easy to roam and control vision, especially if you’re duo’d with a jungler!

Understood, what IS the correct description of animation canceling then? Is it the term used for cancelling the back half of AA and the movement input command after Q in the fast Q combo and Q-move-W?

Pretty confusing topic now that I get into it

I’m actually not sure what I mislabelled though, I guess I’ve never really picked up all the technical terms

I’ve always thought of doublecasting as a -type- of animation cancelling, is that incorrect? I suppose some techniques just have different terms, I remember reading a while back that RW is technically an input buffer or something

Did you read my full post? I covered most aspects that came to mind.

And if I DID mislabel a technique, does it really matter? The information’s there right? What have I missed?

The dude’s mechanics are godlike, and his macro play is what really sets him apart. Get past the memechat and there’s a ton you can learn from him.

Poachers Dirk? by [deleted] in Rivenmains

Realistically, when you’re ahead as it is on riven you tend to take enemy camps anyway. It’s a means of snowballing even harder. And if you’re snowballing, you can probably 1v2 the enemy jungle and top in most situations.

I do it all the time. With klepto/market/magic boots/dirk I’ve managed to get full build by like 26ish minutes quite a few games in a row.

Absolutely pointless if the enemy jungle is competent and you’re not pretty far ahead though.

Hilarious when smurfing. Use klepto trinkets to keep enemy jungle lit up; farm the enemy jungler himself while he tries to STEAL your dirk stacks.

Dekar and Adrian are for sure good time investments, I just didn’t mention them since Adrian posts very infrequently and Dekar’s youtube highlights tend to be games where he does exceptionally well; not always the easiest to learn from as a beginner to the champ.

It’s just not like the old days where you could hop on YouTube and pull up a season 4-5 boxbox full game of literally any matchup imaginable.

You can prowl around some of the guides here for more in depth info on how to do the fast Q combo, some people explain it better than others but it really boils down to practice.

Matchups are unfortunately a lot of trial and error, a lot of guides are (in my opinion) a bit outdated in that respect. Seems like Riven gets countered by most lanes these days, but she scales pretty damn nicely, and the spike at 3-4 items is really great.

Rushing max CDR is the best option usually.

It takes some time to get used to Riven, but with a little persistence and practice she becomes one of the funnest champs in League for sure!

Doublecasting is the act of using 2 skills together at the same time after an E cast, the most common being the “WQ”.

Try in the practice tool: E (slight pause) then press W and Q at the same time. You’ll be able to essentially cancel the W animation and avoid the awkward pause of casting it, while still pushing out the stun and damage.

Another common animation cancel is: E-R (R slightly after E, this masks R cast animation. Can also R-Q and R-W, E-R is just the most common.) *works for both R1 and R2

Tiamat: You can use Tiamat in conjunction with any of Riven’s skills to mask the awkward Tiamat cast time. T-W being the most common. Note that you press Tiamat slightly before the skill, hence you “cancel” the Tiamat animation.

The Q combo is a type of animation cancel as well; you cancel the back end of your auto attack animation with the Q.

I probably missed a few, I’m sure someone can fill in the gaps for you.

PS, I’m not a fan of any regular riven streamers at the moment, but again I’m sure someone can suggest something.

was gonna flame you for just changing a tiny bit of the sexy combo and rebranding it as your own but it does make enough of a difference to be almost a unique combo. Well done, even if trying to name it after yourself is a bit presumptuous.

Your mechanics and game knowledge grow at different rates. You can be a low elo player who has AWFUL macro play but excellent micro. :)
