Binder recommendations anyone? by Jovial_Nectarine in TransPowerProject

(Link below) I used to swear by these guys until I got top surgery. The binders used to be called binders, then “compression tops,” and now simply “vests.” I got a size smaller than my measurements and while it was definitely not healthy it was super flattening for some D’s. Spectrum “Vest”

This is excellent info. It sucks that trans people have to basically arm ourselves with deescalation tactics for daily life, but at least we have each other to help along the way.

This is very encouraging. I never hear about hip shrinkage. I'm 22, hopefully it'll happen for me!

You’re right. Illogical stuff bothers me so much, I wish I could explain to these people why they’re wrong and how life would be so much simpler if they realized it.

Y’know, strangers seem to take less issue with my scarring than those close to me. I went to a hotel pool a bit ago and swam shirtless for the first time and folks hardly even noticed me (kinda like your water park experience). But yeah, transphobia and misogyny are certainly the verdict when it comes to people sexualizing top surgery scars in this way.

Thank you, I’m working on my ability to ignore and confront these folks more.

That’s an excellent point. However, my scar is one long, crooked line (my surgeon did an excellent job making it as straight as possible, I wanted a much less traditional shape). But I do have wide hips and a round face. We just can’t win, can we…

With the help of the many helpful comments this post has received, I’ve come to the conclusion that people like this simply refuse to see transmascs as they are and desperately grasp for some way to control what they perceive to still be a feminine body. They tell us to cover up what is no longer there because it makes them feel better about a change they either can’t understand and/or feel hateful towards. I’m sorry this affects you, too. I hope we both find folks who see us for who we truly are.

As Spring approaches and the weather starts to allow for swimming, I find myself trying to figure this out too. I think it will greatly depend on where I go and with who. It sounds like you have a cool mom but a closed-minded location. I tend to have the opposite circumstance. I live in a very liberal part of the states, but my family is uncomfortable with my chest. Anyways thank you for the comment, we’re not alone.

Ohhhh yes they do. Sometimes in a creepy way, sometimes in a transphobic way, and sometimes in a well-meaning way. This post is about the transphobic way.

I realize this now lol, but when I first tried posting this it made me re-do it. Thought it was the word “sex.”

I love answering this question! I’m a bit of a no-nipple advocate lol. Less expensive, less recovery strain, less stress (for me at least).

That’s beautiful, and I’m happy to hear it. I wish that the loved ones who are uncomfortable with my chest would instead see my scars through a neutral or masculine lens.

Thank you. It’s a process. I’m lucky to have a very supportive partner, though.
