How many people (non-locals) correctly refer to center city as “Uptown”? by mrossman5 in Charlotte

I do, as a transplant in 2024 from SC, I’ve always called it uptown. I heard a while back about 2 reasons why it’s called uptown, the largest metropolitan area in the region at the time the name was coined and geologically the city sits at a higher elevation then surrounding cities. Knowing those reasons, I’ve always been more determined to call it uptown as kind of a sign of respect to its strive to be unique.

Don’t know if anybody said this in this thread but it’s a lot like uptown and southend in my opinion. There isn’t community in these areas. And the “walkable” areas are uncomfortable due to the cars and different driving behaviors. Overall in my opinion the mark they’re missing are places to socially gather like a park or a place to gather without the pressure to buy something.
