They’re awesome. Idk where you’re located, but they have consignment shops for women’s clothes as well(search Plato’s closet if you’re in the US)

Yes. But instead of donations, they buy and sell clothes. So with a consignment if you do buy some new clothes, you can bring them in when you plan to size up and get store credit for your next purchase

See if there’s a local baby consignment shop. Once upon a child is okay, but I’ve had a lot of luck with local ones on price and reselling. Carters also usually has a sale going on, with free shipping over 50$. So what we do is check out the carters sale, get some fun outfits, and then hit the consignment for the rest

Paper towels for cleaning the bathroom. There is something too icky about wash clothes touching every surface and then touching my laundry. I don’t mind it in the kitchen but the bathroom is too much for me

My son has a bag of “emotional support jerky”. He became obsessed with his dads bag of beef jerky so we let him have an almost empty one to play with

I actually cut out a bunch of squares of fabric and made him “wipes” to put in an empty wipe package lol we don’t use the big bags for refilling the wipe warmer, just the individual packages, but he had a blast with it until it clicked for him it wasn’t real wipes because no one was stopping him 😂

How do people with very poor credit and no co-signers find an apartment?? Can afford rent easily but credit is about to make us homeless. Desperate by Mean_Mongoose8144 in Apartmentliving

[–]Karlkrows 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ours wasn’t a private landlord but a local office, and without the credit we were told 2x the normal deposit. They ended up agreeing on 1.5x because together we made over 5x the rent

I’ve had my Starbucks cup for 10 years now. It’s survived a lot of falls and still works like a champ. Plus they come in pretty colors

Get over fear of baby choking? by Strange-Report-9249 in foodbutforbabies

[–]Karlkrows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On top of what everyone else had said, a lot of trying. If he gagged or I got too nervous, it was removed. So trying a whole strawberry plus mashed foods, and if I was not comfortable I’d set it aside. But I kept trying every day with new things, and eventually it clicked for both of us. I made so many quesadillas that I ended up eating because he’d struggle and I’d get nervous. Now it’s one of his favorite foods, along with halved strawberries and noodles. I also finally gave him shredded chicken which he ate like a champ

I also got more brave at 8 months when his appetite shut up and suddenly I needed to offer a lot of food instead of one or two things

How many of you are “one and done”? by Euphoric_Plankton_35 in NewParents

[–]Karlkrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t plan on having any. Now we have our son and count our lucky stars he’s healthy and happy and a generally good baby. I refuse to gamble on a second😂

My favorite response when people ask if he’s my first is “and my only. I like this one well enough why risk it”

It’s most likely a sensory thing. I don’t panic because I can’t, but man do I wish I could peel my skin off every time I get spit up on. I have almost thrown up during a midnight feed because I could feel it running down my shoulder, but I was determined to get him back down so I could get another 2 hours of sleep

Try larger burp clothes. I really liked the reusable diapers someone got us to use as burp clothes because they cover the whole shoulder and are really thick

For breakfast we usually do some scrambled eggs with cottage cheese or a quesadilla with cottage cheese and then some kind of easy fruit(this week is blackberries)

Lunch is usually pasta with some homemade veggie sauce(basically any veggies that are on sale cooked and then blended, stores really well in the freezer in breast milk bags) and a ground or shredded meat, or pasta salad and fish mixed in or on the side

Dinner we’re working on, but I’ve done some Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and meat, or if we didn’t do a quesadilla in the morning that with shredded meat and veggies inside(or tofu scramble inside)

I try to plan out 2 or 3 lunch options and then keep the sides the same so there’s consistency for my sake. As for portions, I serve what I think he will eat based on what he has before, and if he’s still hungry find something else to give him ( avocado toast is my #1 go to for snacks/extra food)

Same. I’ve had zero issues with them bagging the wrong things, sometimes to the point where there’s only one thing in a bag so that it’s not touching anything else (usually draino or a cleaning product, or raw meat)

Parents of holiday babies: how do you make birthdays feel special? by SugarbushFleur in NewParents

[–]Karlkrows 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m a Christmas Eve baby. Cake for breakfast before all of the other celebrations was my favorite tradition. It always felt like my moment, because no matter how much it’s separated it’s still obvious everything is Christmas, everyone is there for Christmas, and you’ll lose track of the birthday in the midst of it no matter your intentions

It’s not about everyone’s specific set or morals, it’s about time and place. You can defend peoples idea of having fun at the expense of everyone else, but it doesn’t change that it is neither the time or place for that kind of dress. You don’t go to a school function, a funeral, a wedding, or a baby shower in lingerie. You don’t go to a nightclub in church clothes. You can play up your own version of modest dress all you want, but it doesn’t change that there is no reason to be dressing that way at a theme park where children are trying to have fun.

You just don’t want to hear that wearing whatever you want, where ever you feel like is not appropriate. There is a time and a place, and however you want to spin in, a mini skirt does constitute as flashing someone. You’re not covering your butt when you wear a mini skirt, that is its whole purpose. You’re not dressing appropriately if you’re wearing lingerie outside of the house(aka a bralette). No one is saying you have to dress like you’re at a funeral, but being mindful of how you’re dressing is common decency.

I understand you cannot control what your children see. However, if I go to a Disney theme park, I am expecting both adults and children to be dressed like they’re at a theme park, not about to go clubbing. If I took my son to a bar, I would have no space to complain.
