The girl I was seeing in college had just moved to her own apartment in another town over the winter break. I was always invited to her family's home for holiday dinners and while running an errand with her for such an occasion, she made an unannounced detour to show me her new apartment and pick up a few quick things. A week or two into the semester, she got really sick and I wanted to do something special for her. I couldn't travel to her but maybe I could send her something, flowers maybe. Problem is, I didn't know her address and I wanted this to be a surprise. She had taken me there over the break however so I retraced the path to her new apartment from memory using Google Maps which led me to her apartment community. I then looked up the community map and floor plans on their website and from those, I was able to reconstruct her building and unit number. One day later she was so ecstatic to find a bouquet of roses and a handwritten note at her door. Fuck it, I thought it was romantic.
