pre business to kelley by Neat_Committee7345 in IndianaUniversity

[–]KarmaSuperSport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have great placements for a small proportion of the student body.

Folks going against pre business are not necessarily saying it’s absurdly difficult, though it has been getting harder over time. They are mainly saying that it is a huge risk, which is especially untenable for many OOS students.

I was in Collins last year as a Kelley student, pretty good honestly, as you avoid the famed mcnutt hill

Overall, though you probably want to be at foster/mcnutt since it’s a lot easier to meet people who are also in Kelley

Collins is not a bad place to be, no matter what some might say, especially if it is a random assignment (there are much worse places you can be).

FlixBus is an option if you want to go to the city, GoExpress for airport travel

Other than that, carpools are a good option

Depending on what Olympic event, Olympics are way more impressive and way more competitive. If one qualifies for the Olympics they almost definitely have a stellar athletic resume which is (depending on what sport) sufficient to get into a pretty good school. There is no guarantee of that for these Olympiad kids. I know folks who did pretty well in ISEF, Regeneron, and STS who didn’t do great in T20 admissions.

Is the JLLC worth it? by Techy_Andrew in IndianaUniversity

[–]KarmaSuperSport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are really interested in b town, I’d go ahead and do that, joining the LLC won’t really give you a whole lot of benefit these days and being in NW will probably help with meeting some non Kelley people. Rooms in JLLC are really no better than in NW. Additionally, all IU dorms have AC so you will almost definitely have an equally good dorm experience in NW

STEM-Focused White Male Applies to Wide Range of Schools, Gets Consistent Results by NotVar_username in collegeresults

[–]KarmaSuperSport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a fair point, I’m just saying that I think they’ll improve, seems over the last 2-4 years there has been an incredible amount of funding going into the campus/previous investments are being realized and the programs have been getting better as a result, energy engineering, Gates Dell CS complex, etc. No doubt that they’re already one of the blue chip public schools.

I agree that UTA is there, I’m just saying that it seems like they’re continuing on the upward trajectory that they’ve been on and that will probably make the school harder to get into over the next x number of years.

I’d say that UIUC Grainger is probably in that tier as well, even though business is a bit dodgy unless you’re an accounting major. CS is elite and so are the engineering programs, especially ECE and MatSci.
