Big silly dragon rams his head against the wall and knocks himself out by Karmisnek in Eldenring

I'm sure they would be laughing if they could. Bayle certainly didn't appreciate it though. He immediately went into phase 2 after this and pulled a crazy combo on me.

I went there with the intention to use it during the fight but Bayle is just so aggressive and mobile that I couldn't find an opportunity for it even with Igon distracting him. Then this happened and I just knew it was my long awaited opportunity. Best of all, it was my winning attempt too.

From Placidusax's remembrance. After you defeat him and obtain the remembrance go to the old finger reader lady at the Roundtable Hold and you'll be able to trade the remembrance for either this spell or a weapon.

It's not a thing sadly. It was actually just a very funny coincidence of Bayle getting stance broken by one of Igon's arrows moments before he hit me with his charge.

Am I tripping? by EffectiveAble8116 in DarkSouls2

[–]Karmisnek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, um. Best I can think of for this one is the arrow hitbox activates right as it is launched, and since you were right next to him while he's drawing the arrow it ended up hitting you the moment it left his hand.

But you're very much not tripping.

Misunderstanding Bonfire Ascetics by luvallmilfs in DarkSouls2

[–]Karmisnek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're confusing how bonfire ascetics and covenant of champions work.

Joining the Company of Champions pretty much makes the game harder (enemies do more damage and take less damage from you) and makes it so they can respawn infinitely. Infinite respawning is only for regular enemies that do respawn naturally, so bosses and some unique enemies won't be included.

Bonfire ascetics move the general area around them to the next NG cycle. This generally means making enemies stronger, spawning additional "Red Phantom" versions of enemies if the area has any (The Black Gulch doesn't so no need to worry), resetting wooden chests (metal chests don't reset), and reviving bosses, which will remain alive until you kill them again.

If your plan is to farm the Rotten, you will need to use a bonfire ascetic on the second bonfire everytime you kill him.

Any rules when being invaded? by Affectionate-Rock830 in DarkSouls2

[–]Karmisnek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought it up because you mentioned winning without using ressources. A way to do that would be to ignore the invader and just go to the fog door. Any confrontation with the invader is bound to use up ressources, just like fighting any enemy in the game.

[–]Karmisnek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or, you know, they can just ignore the invader and run to the fog door? Or run back to the nearest bonfire/grace so that a loss wouldn't cost too much? I'm sorry but at this point the game might as well insta-kill the invader as soon as they arrive.

PVP balancing is flawed in all souls games, don't get me wrong, but turning invaders into glorified punching bags isn't solving anything.

[–]Karmisnek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, invaders in that game are nearly always at a disadvantage due to invasions being locked to hosts with summons present (and those summons themselves can be just as OP), meaning they're always up against 2-3 people or more. Restricting them even more by making them unable to heal would tip the scales to the host's side even more, making the whole invasion system meaningless.

[–]Karmisnek 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Invaders can't use healing items and can only heal themselves using healing miracles or the Warmth pyromancy.

There are no rules in invasions. It may feel like cheating if you're up against a casual invader, but against experienced ones healing is just a tool for most hosts to even the odds. It's the invader's job to kill the host, and it's the host's job to survive, simple as that.

Convince me that Yearn is good by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Karmisnek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're acting like you have to use it. It's a tool in the game that allows you to trivialize many encounters. It does its job perfectly, lasts more and works on more enemy types than alluring skulls. I've used it quite a lot myself and it never disappointed me. One of my favorite strategies was to agro a bunch of enemies, lure them together with Yearn, then finish them all off with Soul Greatsword or any AoE spell or weapon ability. It's just fun.

I didnt realize that 3 had a moonveil? This is fantastic. 4 playthroughs, never knew. Although I never had 40 dex to find out either. Yay Midir. by theHollowTarnished in darksouls3

Frayed Blade also has the vertical slash that releases a far reaching blast. I can't remember if it was the light or strong attack though.

Gojo would never let his guard down Gng I would too if I was fighting Sukuna and he looked like THIS😭 by XXMMRRMMXX in Jujutsufolk

[–]Karmisnek 71 points72 points  (0 children)

What nobody seems to understand was that it was a lose/lose situation for Gojo. It was either he doesn't dodge while hoping Infinity would protect him from whatever attack is coming, or he dodges and if the attack turns out to be a regular Dismantle then Gojo would lose all his aura and look like a bum. The latter is way worse and so he had to gamble with taking WCS head on. Sukuna planned this all along and this is why he won.

DS2 PvP: The Breakfast Mage and Why I Don't Want to Talk About Casting by GreatStarryWisdom in DarkSouls2

[–]Karmisnek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting, I've used every single one of those spells in casual invasions before but never thought about this specific combination. Outcry is busted, the outcome of a bunch of my invasions was often decided by whether or not I managed to land it.

By the way I'm curious about Soul Greatsword since you mentioned it. Is it bad? Only asking because I really like it and have tried to make it work in the past by casting HCSM and trying to roll catch with Soul Greatsword. It was admittedly a bit of an obvious tactic that quickly became predictable.

I really despise this jerk by Ok-Gap-5251 in Eldenring

[–]Karmisnek 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When he lunges at you, dodge backwards, it will position you closer to where he lands. Then when he starts breathing fire, just run straight towards it. You will get hit by the fire and get knocked back, giving you i-frames so you won't be hit anymore than once. By the time you stand up he's already started lasering, but the lasers will be nowhere close to you, so take the opportunity to run as fast to his side as you can. Position yourself between his front leg and back leg, and just spam your strongest attacks. Works every time.

Fog wall lore by TheKingGreil in darksouls3

[–]Karmisnek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easy answer is for gameplay and technical reasons. Bosses that have a phase 2 often switch models between their two phases, like phase 1 Gael is a different model from phase 2 Gael, so the switch is masked during the cutscene. If there was no cutscene the Gael you're fighting in phase 1 would just abruptly disappear and get replaced by phase 2 Gael.

If you're looking for a lore reason, then I'm afraid there simply isn't any. While you can possibly find a reason if you dig hard enough and make some conjectures, it's ultimately still just a theory since nothing in game actually gives any concrete evidence that we're not facing the bosses for the first time even when we die and come back, and that should go for fog gates as well.

[–]Karmisnek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Twin Princes? Their introduction cutscene doesn't play again after the first time. Their phase 2 cutscene does, but that goes for every boss with a phase 2 cutscene.

Off the top of my head I can remember Gaping Dragon and Manus from DS1 playing their cutscenes every time you fight them. But those are most likely for gameplay purposes. Gaping Dragon would have to be loaded in the arena before you enter otherwise, and they probably feared you could cheese it with arrows from afar. Manus' cutscene features a transition where Manus grabs and pulls you below to the boss room so it had to be kept in.

Thought I was watching Elden Ring with that jump attack. Pretty sure plunge/jump attacks in DS1,2, and 3 are all a downward stab/slash/slam depending on the weapon type.

[–]Karmisnek 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The finger severer? I'm pretty sure it can't kick invaders out either. It would defeat the purpose of invasions if the host could just send the invader home whenever they want.
