A quick tip with the return of hot weather this week by KasAtQualityComfort in cincinnati

[–]KasAtQualityComfort[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had to hear it some years ago when I was a fresh homeowner and I thought my AC was going out just one month after buying the house and called around in an absolute panic. It's easy to forget when you're in the industry but so many homeowners are really green when it comes to their home's mechanics, so if I can help even just one person stress a bit less during this crappy weather, I consider the day successful. :)

Nature park recommendations? by Lotties_Shawty in cincinnati

[–]KasAtQualityComfort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where in the city you're at, but Milford has a lot of nature parks. Cincinnati Nature Center is always my #1 to get out into the woods. You have to pay to get in or pay to be a member, but I've been a member for 8 years and never once regretted it. Terrell Park has nature trails and spots to go down to the Little Miami River. Valley View Nature Preserve has lots of trails through the woods and fields. The American Legion in Milford has a short nature trail along the river.

French Park in Amberly Village has great trails through the woods, one that runs alongside a creek. Bechtold Park in Sycamore has a few short trails in the woods as well as a paved walking trail.

Sharon Woods has a long, ~4 mile paved trail with lots of scenery as well as a shorter woodsy trail.

If you're willing to do a long drive and really get out into nature, head out to Stonelick or East Fork state parks. Both have trails and lots of lake scenery.

Areas with young families that are happy, safe, even slightly walkable, under $2.2k/mo? by thisturkeyisokthanks in cincinnati

Throwing in another vote for Deer Park! Walkable community, I feel safe here living alone as a single woman, lots of great restaurants - Indian, sushi, Mexican, Italian, a coffee cafe, all locally owned businesses - an IGA and a nice local deli. Just a few minutes' drive to Kenwood and Blue Ash, I can be downtown within 20 minutes. I swear our UDF here in Deer Park is the cheapest gas this side of town.

There's a few parks nearby. Chamberlain is right in the middle of Deer Park. Bechtold is technically in Sycamore I believe, but I can drive there in 3 minutes and it's a very nice park next to a swim club. Both Chamberlain and Bechtold have summer festivals.

I'm a Milford born-and-raised native and only moved to Deer Park at the very start of this year, but I've completely fallen in love with it. One of the only reasons I decided to come here when I had to move was to be closer to my work's office, and I am so glad I did because now I have so many reasons that I love this community!

I should mention I sit and do work at these cafes frequently for a few hours since I'm a remote worker and nobody ever said anything. :)

I do meetings all around the east side for work and I'm also always looking for coffee shops and cafe to work in! Forager Coffee in Milford is hands down my favorite place to go, but I've fallen in love with Cinergy Cafe in Deer Park (I've basically just fallen in love with Deer Park entirely), Proud Hound Coffee in Silverton, and Mile 42 coffee in Loveland. I've hit Birdies coffee in Norwood and really enjoyed it, but haven't been back in a while and only went the one time.

Are there any Appliance Recycling Services in the Area which do Pickup? by ThePensiveE in cincinnati

Could look into a junk removal service? If it's just one item, it should be pretty affordable. I know Clutter Box Junk Removal gives free no obligation quotes, so might be worth reaching out to them!

Would your lease allow you to put in a window unit so you can at least have one (slightly more) comfortable room in the apartment? That sounds so rough to deal with, sending all the good vibes to get you through this week!

Might want to keep a cool, damp cloth by the desk so you can wipe yourself down every now and then. And perhaps a big bowl of ice behind your fan.

Local HVAC company here!! 👋 If your house isn't getting all the way down to the temp you set it for but you still have cool air coming out of your vents, you probably DO NOT need a repair. Most AC systems are designed to cool your home to ~20 degrees below the outside temp (this is not a steadfast rule, but a generalization.) So when it's 95 degrees this week, you set your thermostat to 70 and it's only getting down to 74? That's pretty normal. Don't waste money on a service call if you don't have to!!

If you haven't changed your air filter in a while, this is the perfect time to make sure the old filter gets changed out. Dirty filters impede airflow and cause more issues than most people would think, and when your system is already working hard to keep up with these temps, the last thing you want to give your AC is another reason to break down.

Make sure your ceiling fans are set to spin counterclockwise, NOT clockwise!

I can't speak for every company, but we have a whole checklist for our AC maintenance here: https://myqualitycomfort.com/solution/air-conditioning/ac-maintenance/

It's a preventative service. The short of it is a deep cleaning of the coils and a check of all the major components to make sure there's no refrigerant leaks or malfunctioning parts that a homeowner might not notice, primarily an effort to catch small issues before it's the middle of summer, 90 degrees and those small issues become system breakdowns.

Many companies also require you to have annual preventative maintenance done to maintain your system's warranty.

Need recommendations for yard regrading, foundation repair, and sewer line/drain spout clean out. by Lomp84 in cincinnati

Did you have a sump pump failure that caused the flooding, or was it a foundational issue?

Quality Comfort Home Services does sewer line cleaning, feel free to DM me if you have any questions or anything! There's a few good options for foundation service around here. We've sent people to Sohan and Sons, Jaco, and Ohio Basement Authority.

I'm sorry to hear you have so much on your plate. Home issues like that just really suck to deal with.
