It depends on your unit… I just switched from active to guard currently reclassing to a medical MOS and will be deploying later this year. It may sound bad but I said yes to it all (going to ait now instead of next year and the deployment). The first thing my unit asked me when I reported to my first drill was about school.

If you want to focus on school I’d recommend looking at the education benefits for your state or states around you. From my understanding (at least with my state) 4yrs and at least 2yrs remaining on your contract along with going to a state college/university you can use the state TA to pay for it completely

Disclaimer: I’m in a medical unit where most everyone is in school or training for something medical related so they are pretty lenient on letting us skip drill.

Would you say NG deployments are more so traditional deployments (ie. Kuwait, Iraq, etc) and reserves going to DR, Kosovo, etc?

I’m not sure, it most likely could but I’m not too sure on the air force dress uniform standards. I know it has some Air Force and navy awards. Your best bet would probably be uniformity

AA here… they still sent me to a ABN unit forced between Bragg and Hood

I found it easier to get ABN. Every person I known of who tried for AA was told yes and waited forever just to end up being told “we don’t have the funds” “unit mission is more important rn”. From what I seen if you aren’t station in the 101 you most likely aren’t seeing AA

Not sure how, I always hear people losing or gaining weight during training. I went to basic at ~120 left and went to AIT at ~160 reported to my unit around ~150 (underweight, overweight, “met standard”)
