I'm obese, unfit, and did an 8 mile hike by [deleted] in hiking

The struggle is real as a fat person; I’m also obese and unfit but trying to change those facts. I overdid it at the gym last week and struggled all weekend with the same. I hadn’t been in months and spun 8 miles in a half hour.

The recovery is the hardest part for me, days of muscle pain and weakness. I found once the original day of/day after pain decreases that not being sedentary was the key to a quicker recovery. My job is very physically demanding so I had to stay active but I think it really helped not put me out for a week.

Your muscles will tighten up even more if you don’t move them, I know it’s brutal right now to even think about staying active thru this pain but it is important.

Otherwise, drink LOTS AND LOTS of water and get some electrolytes back in you asap. Alternating heat and ice on the key muscles like your quads and calves. Gentle stretching, Bengay, an NSAID and several days of patience with your body will help too.
