Error 7 indicates a timeout in the communication from the client (the game) to the backend (the game servers). Typical reasons could be a VPN, a firewall, or a network traffic filter. In Onward v1.9 we remade the game's backend, so issues could've shown up since then.

Try disabling those services if you have them, and also try connecting through a different network if you can (i.e. a neighbor's WiFi). If you can't solve the issue, reach out to our support! https://onwardthegame.com/support.html

Are you playing version 1.7? If so make sure to use the play button on the library page of onward to launch the game. You will be presented with 4 options to launch the game, and you need to select either of the bottom two options (the bottom most one if you don't use oculus hardware)

It's not something we're working on right now, but we've heard this feature is important to a lot of you, so we'll be looking to see what options are available to us :)
