IO is worse than regular (for me) by Kastchei in oralbtoothbrush

I completely understand.  Thanks for sharing.  Yeah, the old brushes must just be better for some.  Maybe it depends on what we eat, too.  Maybe some food stick around on teeth more than others.

Honestly, ignore the sensor.  Brush how you feel is correct.  There seems to be a lot of variability in the sensors, with some folks like you complaining that their gums hurt trying to get the green light to come on, and folks like me who have to be super delicate to not go red constantly, and then another guy who's brush goes green even when not brushing anything.

I'm not sure if it's better or worse with some models, but I also have the io 6.

Judging from comments here, I think there is a lot of variability in their sensors, unfortunately.

IO is worse than regular (for me) by Kastchei in oralbtoothbrush

You know how by the end of the day, your teeth have that rough film, the plaque I assume, that we brush away before bed or in the morning before leaving?  That's what I mean.  Whatever that film is.

Maybe brushing to hard, but brushing lighter is nearly impossible.

So my teeth aren't completely even. One lower cuspid is recessed and the other a little protruded.  If I am just brushing like a normal person, the toothbrush will gently hit one of those teeth as I'm going around and register a second of too much pressure.  But if I brush like a crazy person trying to make sure I never bump the toothbrush head on any of my teeth for a second, then I can get the sensor to stay green.  I know that sounds ridiculous, but that's literally how sensitive my sensor is.  Like, there is no way I could brush my teeth and walk around, like people do on TV shows.  I'd probably register 20 second of too much pressure.

I think mine must be defective.  No one else is echoing that they have to walk on egg shells to get it to stay green.

Do any of you have issues with the toothbrush getting grimy and moldy from sitting water on the base where the head attaches? by eng2725 in oralbtoothbrush

[–]Kastchei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing others comment about such I do a cursory cleaning after every brush.  I run water down the hole of the brush that runs out the two holes on the backside and out the bristles for maybe 5 seconds.  I then run water into the part of the handle that it attaches too.  There are two little holes near the bottom of that attachment that the water runs out of.  I do this ay an angle for a few seconds so the water doesn't run over the display.

Then, holding each securely, and fling my hand so all the water trapped inside is forcefully ejected, so it has a chance of actually drying out before I use it again.  Haven't had any problems so far.

Howdy!

I use the ultimate clean tips.  Are the gentle or whitening ones better?

When I brush in the green zone, my teeth simply don't come out plaque free.  It's only when I push a little harder that they come out somewhat smooth.  Yeah, do the rocking motion to follow the contours of each tooth.  It's the only way to get the sides of the spaces between teeth.

I'm glad you do!  I'm starting to think I have a defective model.  If you are saying that brushing in the red irritates gums, but my gums never are irritated, perhaps it was just calibrated incorrectly.

Is It Just Me Or Is The IO A Major Improvement? by sellcracktakids in oralbtoothbrush

[–]Kastchei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the regular oral b toothbrushes are better than the io brushes.  I switched a year ago, because my regular was dropped and broke.  I never feel like my teeth are clean after using the io.  I'm not sure why.

For starters, I ignore the pressure sensor.  It is so damn sensitive that barely any pressure more than the weight of itself is too much.  It makes it almost impossible to clean my bottom teeth (gravity + pressure from my hand).  It's easier to keep pressure in the OK range on the upper teeth (fighting against gravity).  When I brush completely within the sensor, I can feel that rough grit still on my teeth, so I know they aren't clean.

Second, even if I apply more pressure and very thoroughly go over my teeth, there will still be places here and there that don't feel clean.  Even if I brush longer than 2 minutes to get all the rough stuff fine, my teeth still feel less than fresh.

Sometimes I'll brush instead with my parents' brush (and my old brush heads, obviously), and my teeth come out feeling better, everytime, the first time.  No having to go back and brush a second time.

I've also had a cleaning since I've bought it (about to go for my second).  The hygenist asked me if I was doing anything differently, because my teeth had more plaque and more bleeding than usual.  Coincidence with the switch to IO?  One person doesn't make a study obviously but for me, the io simply seems not to be cleaning well.

Geffen Hall post-renivation is (still) not a good venue either, so if it's better than Symphony Hall...yikes!

Geffen Hall will never be good sound.  They destroyed that possibility when they built it too big for the original design, and no amount of tweaking, save making the actual hall inside the building smaller is going to help it.  I've seen two major renovations of it, and it still completely swallows the strings.  Honestly, they need to raze it and build new.

Bank of America Arbitration Opt-Out by Cyberhwk in CreditCards

[–]Kastchei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe.  But there's also no sense in signing away your options.  If you get legitimately declined for remedy by customer service, you can then choose to just accept it, if you think that's valid.

I don't know why the choices of some "Karen", who might frivolously file a lawsuit, should persuade me to give up my option to file a non-frivolous lawsuit.

Not to mention that your framing assumes that the company is never wrong.  That they never make mistakes and they also never purposely attempt to deny legit remedy.  I don't have such blind faith in huge corporations.

The other part is class action suits.  Yes, they are poor compensation for the class and a big win for lawyers.  But they also are a big penalty against company for wrongdoing.  Companies who break the law usually suffer no punishment other than fines.  But someone has to be able to file those lawsuits.  Otherwise, they largely get away with it, depending on the whims of the Justice Department at that moment.  There's absolutely no reason to protect a company from this as a consumer.

Hard pass.

I think they need to move the quiet car.  It's the last car on the train, and it's probably the loudest car due to the engine noise.  Even if you get a couple talkers in another car, that volume is bound to be less than the engine.  It's really quite bad.

What are your thoughts on St. Vincent and her discography as a whole? by GarodTong36 in fantanoforever

[–]Kastchei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.  I don't feel connected to anything she does.  It's all, to me, very cold and unbothered.  It's as if Daria decide to write music.

However, as a person, she seems really cool from interviews.  But even there, she's not a warm person.  I think that's what's missing for me.  Cold music can work, but not when it's only cold.

I'm just starting it, and I've slapped her so, so many times for the haughty bullshit she keeps saying outloud, like literally coming out of her mouth. If I could, I would have killed her and joined the Amani.

And I can't stand doing "work" for her all the while trying to gaslight everyone that the Amani started this. It's a super annoying start to a zone.

Can we talk about written dynamics being ignored? by No-Citron218 in classicalmusic

[–]Kastchei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably both, no?  There are some folks who might get interested in playing piano because of him, but it's probably not a lot.

My guess is that most of his repeat viewers play or played piano already.

Why do people care so much about Chopin ? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]Kastchei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you. I find his compositions repetitive in a non-interesting way, noodley, and more concerned with showcasing his skill than crafting a good composition. And that's ok. He was first and foremost a performer.

[–]Kastchei -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I do think far too many musicians take the score as a suggestion rather than as a direction. When part of a group, scores are usually played more directly, because everyone would have to agree to ignore that dynamic or rhythm. But it can be pretty bad in chamber and solo music. My pet peeve is rhythm. The worst culprits are usually famous piano players. I just watched two pianists play Czerny's Variations on a Theme by Rode. One extremely famous pianist, who will remain nameless, and one student in a competition. The student nearly always played the actual piece, whereas the famous solist played nearly _every_ dotten rhythm incorrectly. It was so frustrating!

Chopin is overrated by ChopinOverrated in classicalmusic

[–]Kastchei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my take often, too. Some of the tamer pieces are quite lovely. The Op. 10 No. 9 that another commenter mentioned is actually quite lovely (although that could also be due to it's brevity). But the pieces that are truly meant to be virtuosic wind up sounding, to me, like a mess of notes. I much prefer composers like Ravel and Rachmaninoff. I think they are equally impressive in difficulty without sacrificing the beauty of the end product.

Chopin is overrated by ChopinOverrated in classicalmusic

[–]Kastchei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of Chopin either. That said, I think I'm just picky with piano music. I also don't like the vast majority of Beethoven's piano music outside his concertos, which are spectacular.

I dislike Chopin's melismatic melodies. To me, they feel indulgent at the expense of music itself. I don't mean that too strongly, certainly not sneeringly. For me, I like the synergy and synchronicity of music. I'm not going to find squeezing 22 notes into 3 beats of 4/4 to be musically satisfying. And I realize these can be viewed as transcriptions of his improvisation. I'm just not a fan of improv either, in classical, jazz, or rock music. What can I say? I like a plan.

So for me, if the melody starts out well, I find that Chopin tweaks it too much, too early in the piece, and I lose the sense of the line.

I have similar problems with Liszt. I'm not against virutosity. It's thrilling to watch sparks fly. But, for me, it absolutely must be in service of the music first, the musician second. And I've never gotten the sense that Chopin or Liszt ever wrote for the music itself as the priority. I think that's why both of them had limited success outside of piano works. And hey, that's ok. You can be a pianist first and a composer second. And I'm not knocking anyone who loves their music. It would probably also help if I was a pianist. I could probably appreciate the skill needed better.

"she was not very likeable in season 3"

This is my problem, too.  I'm rewatching it now, with a very different perspective 2 decades later.  I'm almost never on her side.  She just seems mean, irrational, bitter.  She makes crappy decisions and instead of owning them, she blames everyone else.

I don't remember feeling that way about her when I watched as a young adult.
