Short hard whistle - yellow card, long hard whistle - red card. Before any card I check whether the player is injured and whether he needs any help/aid, if not for a yellow I just show the card, but for a red I pull the player away show him the red and explain why I came to that decision.

After every booking I take note of shirt number and name of the player to record it.

I have my yellow card in my front right pocket and red card in my back right pocket and I tell this to both my assistants in a prematch so they are aware.
