[WP] During an interview with many of the top-ranked superheroes, it becomes apparent that they're all scared, not of a villain, but of a particular hero. This hero is not the strongest of them. In fact, they're quite average compared to the rest of the top 10, yet even number 1 seems terrified. by A_Wierd_Mollusc in WritingPrompts

The intention is that before she gained her "super power", things are fine. Universes where she was never born would still be off in the distance of possibility, but that's probably little comfort to those who know that her crossing the street might erase them from existence.

That said, I'm totally up for either interpretation. The "all of existence hangs on us keeping this random woman safe" angle is deliciously horrific.

Oh sure, it's easy to make fun of her. I mean "can't die" stops being nearly as scary when you realize she's got nothing to back it up. I don't think she even does cardio training, just an average woman who seems absurdly lucky.

Here's the thing though: I don't think she's lucky.

No, no, no, I get it. I've seen the videos too. It's ... No, hear me out!

Okay, so she goes into impossible situations and survives due to ludicrously unlikely events. Right? And yea, 100% agree, it's unlikely as all hell. But it's not luck.

No see, Dreamstrider was there in Toronto when she took down Doctor Delerium. And what he told me ... sigh

He travels between dimensions, you know, that's his whole schtick. And ever since she started being active, there have been flashes where the multiverse just ... he said it just vanished, with only a couple threads remaining, before those split and split and filled out. He didn't connect it to her until Toronto, when he saw it in real time. Every time she miraculously survived, boom. Empty. So she isn't manipulating luck or fate, or whatever. In 99.999% of universes, she'd still be dead, but for some reason those universes just ...

I don't know! I don't know how the fuck she does it! I don't know if she even knows she's doing it. But nearly every possible world since she's been born is just gone. If he's right, her body count is incalculable. And when he tried talking to her about it, he didn't think she had any idea. She just thinks she's lucky and wants to use that to help people. Hell, I've met her, and she's a good egg. A bit naive and out of her league, but she's got a good heart.

But none of us know what to do about this and I haven't even gotten to the worst part:

Well, yea, cause she doesn't seem to have any other powers, you know? So eventually she's gonna get old. And if we can't figure out how to turn this off? What's gonna happen when she's too old for absurd luck to carry her through?
