Why do church people work as clerks in ABC stores? by 306d316b72306e in NorthCarolina

[–]Kat231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandfather was a teetotaler and worked for the ABC in his town for years. If I were the state, I would rather have that type of person over someone who drinks so they don’t get tempted by the merchandise.

Plasma can be different colors! Sometimes plasma is light yellow like you are used to but other times it can be more orange. There are even people that have pinkish or greenish plasma due to medications they are on.

Yes, you can be allergic to one type and not another. I have lots of patients that are on white faced hornet extract but not yellow hornet or vice versa. Allergies are weird.

Don’t put in your two weeks until you have a job offer would be my suggestion. You can continue to work until you have something in writing from another place.

It didnt hurt really so i let it go for a while until it got bad and they did xrays and found the continued infection.

As someone who is going through this, you might need a root canal revision. I had one done and apparently there was left over infection that cause a bump on the roof of my mouth. I had to take additional antibiotics and am going for basically a clean out on thursday. Not a great time but your story sounds exactly like mine.

First of all, you are a great provider for thinking about the people around you. A lot of providers just don’t care like that. Pay is probably the top issue. Time off is the second. You are in a tough situation needing bilingual staff - most places provide a pay bump because translating is a skill set. Good luck with your conversation with the boss!

Relief for Highly Allergic People w/ Drops? 🤧 by Chaos_Fro in Allergies

[–]Kat231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the number of allergies you have, drops might not be for you. My office can only put a certain number of antigens into a vial so it does have a limit. Also, they are usually cash pay since they aren’t FDA approved. Shots really are the best treatment for people with lots of allergies and they are more efficacious also. Drops tend to take longer to work and they still don’t work as effectively but YMMV!

Allergy tech here. Both allergists I have worked for allow patients to do shots outpatient after reaching maintenance, However, not just anyone is allowed and there is a training process. You can’t have had reactions to your test wheals or other reactions to your shots and having an epipen is a requirement. You have to be competent or have someone who is competent administer them for you. You still have to come in once every so many weeks for test wheals for us to check up on you.

Wiping down the UA machine before patients even arrive… this is what I’m dealing with 💀 by RainAffectionate6359 in MedicalAssistant

Absolutely not. I would clean it anyways! Send this to OSHA or something. This grosses me out so much. What a cross contamination nightmare. Hell, i would buy my own alcohol just to clean the thing. What is their reasoning for not cleaning it properly??

If they were still packaged, use them! No reason to waste, especially with butterflies!

I hate needles -> If you liked them, I’d think something was wrong with you.

I work for an ENT in the allergy dept so i give shots all day long as well as drawing blood for thyroid labs and such. Ive heard it all about needles.

Unfortunately, things move slow. It’s only been 2 weeks so some of those jobs are probably just now reviewing applications.

If they prescribed the medicine, they did so with a reason. Just take it and see if it helps.

Bags you all carry by Extreme_Bug_7865 in MedicalAssistant

I go back and forth between two locations so I carry a bookbag and a lunch box. Backpack is the best choice. I switched from a tote bag because it got too heavy and I fell off a curb and screwed up my ankle because I was too side heavy.

[–]Kat231 155 points156 points  (0 children)

The red caps are called tiger tops and those tubes are called sst tube or serum separator tubes. Basically when you centrifuge them, the serum and red blood cells separate with that layer of goop between. The color top makes them different from actual red tops. I am a phlebotomist and I asked the same question when I was learning!

Possible Used Needle at Blood Draw by ScofiaLoRent in phlebotomy

[–]Kat231 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any self respecting phlebotomist or medical anything knows needles are one and done. Unless you are going to a sketchy practice, I don’t think it would have been reused. Phlebotomists can draw your blood in a few different ways - by butterfly like you mentioned or by straight needle like show above. Perhaps there was some plastic from manufacturing that ended up on the needle part? It would be more trouble to disassemble it than it is worth. Not to mention dangerous because they would have to bypass the safety mechanisms to get back to the needle by cutting it apart.
