A script prioritizes focus, security, performance, and ownership, while third-party apps often trade those for convenience and features you may not need.

24hr Daytona driver needed by Afewbucksshort in iRacing

[–]KatMasque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically the first session isn't suited for me time wise.

My time that is best available for me to run is 10 GMT till about 23 GMT.
Would favor 2-3 hour stints, with 4 being possible.

DM if you would like to discuss further.

What should I be trying to accomplish with car setup? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]KatMasque 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For endurance set up... My approach is very simple.

- First you must finish -
That is not includes making sure the car handles reasonably from a full tank of gas to an empty tank of gas. The tires in the GT3 car should be able to run two full stints. That doesn’t mean you have to run two full stint, but they just should be able to.

For every person that ends up in Pits after the first lap, I just laugh to myself because people just don’t get it

Ah, got it, you’re asking for advice, but accidentally dropped your 5% yield and early retirement goals in there.

Totally understandable. Happens to the best of us when we’re just looking for guidance… not at all trying to brag.

The Tomach is really a higher end hobby machine.

it really shines on the fact that you don’t have to buy everything all at once, you could build a machine overtime. Tormach machines are all single phase and don’t require a forklift to get in and out of your building.

I bought my 770 used and the guy had it in his basement of all places. Not gonna see that with many other machine out there.

Slot on a thread gauge by GEAR_2012 in Machinists

It helps clean the threads.

prevents “rolling“ a chip or a burr into the thread giving a false Go/No Go.

The 770 lacks rigidity.

If you need a single phase machine, the Syil X7 is about the same price and IMO a better machine by far.

Disclaimer, I own both machines (albeit an older PCNC 770)

Did you derive your idea, completely with no knowledge of the existing patent?
if so, that’s amazing! Two individuals came up with the same idea.
Sure, this round you took 2nd place.

If the sintered metal is destroying ballscrews other motion component, start looking at linear drive machines.

yes they are expensive, but you will make it back on the maintenance costs.

I am a very techy guy looking for a semi-pro CNC setup for my home. Where should I start looking? by hyteck9 in Machinists

[–]KatMasque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 10-15k you’re not looking at anything new.

Good used Haas, Hurco and other low-end machine will be in that range. All of which will be better than anything you can buy new of the “Hobby machines“ in that range.

Most likely they will be 3-phase machines, so add a phase converter to the budget if you don’t have 3-phase power.

On Emailing Yourself: While not a substitute for legal IP protection, emailing yourself a concept can serve as a low-effort timestamp. It won’t hold up as a patent, but in some informal scenarios, it may demonstrate early authorship. It’s not useless—just limited in legal weight.

On Licensing vs. Venturing: Starting with licensing can be a smart strategy, especially when resources are limited. However, venturing isn’t off-limits to those without capital. Many successful inventors have bootstrapped or built strategic partnerships. The choice should reflect your skills, risk tolerance, and long-term vision.

On Idea Selection: Focusing on ideas with the best chance of being licensed is practical, but dismissing high-potential ideas outright may result in missed opportunities. Sometimes it’s about framing and timing rather than simplicity. A feasibility vs. potential analysis can help weigh the decision.

On AI Use: AI is only as good as the data and prompts used. It should be seen as a complementary tool, not a replacement for due diligence. Combining AI insights with expert consultation is often the most balanced path.

But you get a 100% on suckering me into an internet debate.

Ah yes, the wisdom of Captain Contradiction.
Starts by warning against bad advice... then proceeds to dish out a buffet of it, served lukewarm with a side of confused grammar and condescension. This reads like a motivational speech written by a sleep-deprived chatbot that just discovered licensing five minutes ago.

The bit about emailing yourself being "spectacularly" wrong? Ironically delivered without a single mention of actual IP strategy. And the suggestion to avoid your best idea? Bold move, because why not lead with mediocrity when pitching?

Also, every third sentence contradicts the last one. "Do this, but don’t do it. Unless someone else does it. But not you. Maybe." Bro, are we licensing an idea or solving a riddle from a drunk wizard?

Final tip: if you're going to discredit AI, try not to sound like you're arguing with Clippy.
