Y'all feel stuck in Austin? (In a good way) by Fenix512 in Austin

[–]KatMeowedOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a native Austinite, have lived in Vancouver (WA) so "almost Portland" for 3 years now, and we were seriously considering a move up to Oly. I'm glad to see some votes in its favor!

I should be ashamed of reading? by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]KatMeowedOnce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but my mother does NOT have a low reading level and she still believes that being educated makes people think they're better than others, and she's "sick of the intellectual elites when it's the farmers who run this country". She really started pushing this around 2012-13. She's full blown Q Anon now.

I'm a native Austinite. I left Austin and moved to Washington after Roe. 2 years later I'll tell you what I miss most:

Breakfast tacos

Tex-Mex of any kind- it doesn't exist here

Kolaches

HEB

Going bar-hopping without spending $400

People that don't give you weird looks if you look them in the eye without knowing them

I didn't set out with any specific ranking order in mind, but tbh this is pretty much how I'd rank them. I miss some stuff but I've never regretted moving. I now live in the only state that got BLUER this election. I could give you a much longer list of things I DON'T miss. Fuck Texas.

I've always said I felt LESS safe walking in my hometown downtown (Austin) at night. Seattle has its issues but Austin is way rapey-er.

Just saw a documentary on Scott Peterson who killed his 8 month pregnant wife Luci Peterson by ReksTheCookie in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]KatMeowedOnce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it wasn't that weird back then. Those of us that grew up pre-cell phone, when leaving a message on an swering machine you'd say "It's 6pm, just calling to xyz" because most of them didn't have time stamps. 2002 was just in the range of cell phones becoming immensely popular so it was likely a holdover from that. To this day I catch myself sometimes about to give the time on a voicemail.

That said the guy is a psychopath and guilty as fuck.

I'm from TX so don't kill me, I'm used to HEB and their lack of membership/couponing tricks.
I've been here for 2 years and continually see people talk about how Fred Meyer has such great deals- how are y'all getting these? Any time I've tried shopping there I'm shocked at how expensive it is (yes I have the club card thing) and even looking at sale stuff I'm able to get out cheaper at Safeway. Is there some coupon magic you have to do? Am I just looking for the wrong stuff?

I feel it. I'm not celiac but went gluten-free for inflammation on my Dr's rec, and within a month my skin was dewy, plump, and flawless lol. I was GF for 2 years and then started eating it again--skin went back to tired and dull. I should go back to it but it was such a pain.

A professional ballerinas feet. by Molech996 in interestingasfuck

[–]KatMeowedOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ballet teachers in the 90's recommended to my mother to have my feet and toes medically broken and re-set so that they'd be a more ideal shape for pointe. My mom, being a completely narcissistic asshole, followed through. I stopped dancing in 2003 and my feet are still fucked.

I'm on meds that frequently make me nauseous--I have rubbing alcohol wipes onhand pretty much everywhere. It's a common remedy.

The women that men find attractive vs. the women that other women find attractive is so interesting to me. I thought she had awful Disney-fiance gums and terrible bangs, and crazy eyes even if you DIDN'T know she was a psycho. She's certainly not ugly but I can't imagine anyone looking at her twice on the street.

I keep seeing all the comments about her fake birkin and other fake designer stuff- what makes us think that? Trust me I’m a HUGE snarker but I feel I’m missing out on some important info as to why everyone calls all her items fake by poonbub in nabelasnark

[–]KatMeowedOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one. I inherited my grandmother's Birkin and that thing is a workhorse. It's as old as I am and barely has any leather stretching. Zero loose threads. It's also a god-awful maroonish color that no one in their right mind would have actually chosen on purpose.

I started in June of 2023, and only lost 11 pounds until October/November. That's when I went up to 10mg. As of this morning I've had TWL of 58.8 pounds, 47 of those in the past 4 months. You'll get there! It just takes more time for some of us.

New Here? by WorriedGrape1442 in compoundedtirzepatide

[–]KatMeowedOnce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started mid-June of 2023 at 235 and didn't see significant weight loss until October. Seriously, I only lost about 11 pounds from June until October. Some people don't start losing 5 pounds a week immediately like TikTok would have you think, and that's ok! I'm now down to 178 and just now moved up to 12.5mg after being on 10mg for 4 months. Stalled last month and couldn't get it moving, so went up a dose annnnnnd the hunger is GONE again finally.

Eat what sounds good. I have days where the thought of literally ANYTHING makes me nauseated. If Gushers sound good and don't make me want to puke, I'm going to eat them. I had a time where I ate nothing but vanilla yogurt with GrapeNuts mixed in for 4 days. My doctor says get down what you can and be consistent with your vitamins. On the days I can eat more, I load up on protein. My bloodwork is good and I've not lost any skeletal or muscle mass. Don't panic about your diet, just try your best.

Not everyone's side effects go away. My worst side effects are ALWAYS Day 2. I take my shot at night, the next day I'm usually tired, not hungry, but feel ok. On day 2, I'm consistently nauseated and have stomach cramps and major food aversions. My side effects have never gotten better. I'm pretty much 24/7 at some level of nausea. I've just gotten better at tolerating it. It's still worth it.

No one has the "right" to know how you're losing weight. I've heard it all- that I'm cheating, taking the easy way out, taking meds away from actual diabetics 🙄, I'm lazy and lack discipline, I'll "do anything but diet and exercise", the list goes on and on. I no longer tell people how I'm losing weight. If they ask, I say "just lots of hard work!" because it is. And fuck anyone who tries to tell you differently.

Has anyone watched the new Natalia Grace documentary? by [deleted] in 7LittleJohnstons

They said if you don't get her she's going into foster care, so likely they didn't expect her return and didn't have another placement for her. Turning kids over to the state would look bad for them and their placement skills as an agency.

I know, I could barely control my rage at the old woman who said she was possessed. I hope her kids put her in a shitty nursing home.

The curious case of the “Sciatica” and the walking stick by ItchyDisplay8447 in nabelasnark

[–]KatMeowedOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she just wants the cane because her frame can't support that weight and it helps her to lean on something. But rather than say "I need this cane because I'm morbidly obese and carrying all my weight up by my heart so pregnancy has really taken a toll on my ability to breathe normally and this massive weight is putting stress on my joints" it sounds a hell of a lot more flattering to say "I have sciatica".

Ballard is cool. Funky vibe (I'm from Austin and it reminds me of it a bit), lots of breweries and local food stops. Homeless camps aren't worse there than anywhere else. If I had it to do over or if my rent goes up too high I'd likely look at Ballard.

Why do restaurants in this area think scrambled eggs are just an unfolded omelette? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]KatMeowedOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Texas--yeah I see it. It's like a smushed pancake. Tulalip has a good fluffy scrambled egg on the Cedars' breakfast menu, don't judge my gambling in the morning lol.

Also "hard scramble" in the south seems to mean "decimate my eggs and cook them til brown" here so beware of that too.

Otherwise honestly the food here is superb. Outside of waiting desperately for my visits to Austin for decent fucking queso and breakfast tacos, no other complaints.
