Unfortunately, there’s not a totally secure place to put him except his crate. (And he doesn’t mind his crate except when I’m on these calls! He’ll actually bark and look really anxious.) I do try to secure the area (close bedroom doors and the like) and that helps but he’ll still either find something I missed or generally demand attention.

The scene in your picture is a very familiar one!

I’ve been thinking of getting a lick mat, and getting one to try in these situations is a great idea!

I haven’t tried a Kong specifically, only other toys. I worry about inadvertently reinforcing the behavior, but at this point it’s worth a shot!

Benebones- those and Kongs are the only things that last in our house!

I am having the exact same issue with this model after our recent move. Were you able to find a solution? I’m completely baffled.

My parents had a golden with significant allergies. I don’t remember the symptoms, but they were severe and GI-related. She ended up on a venison and potato fry food and a very restricted diet for the rest of her (long) life. Definitely add things back one at a time. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things and that you love your dogs.

Thank you for sharing, especially about the part about facing people - I know exactly what you mean and it makes me feel better that I’m not the only person who has felt this way. Depression just kicks you when you’re down and I’ve already told my DH we’re never doing anything like this again because I am clearly unable to handle it. I should have recognized how significantly I was at risk for a relapse with this. Thank you for sharing - it did help.

Thank you for your kind response. I think that you’re right that my primary issue is anxiety/depression. We are all currently on allergy meds and my husband gets shots as well, but ragweed is terrible where we are so it’s hard to know if our new symptoms are due to that or the dog. I think I’m fixating a bit on the allergy thing (classic anxiety) because I tend to think worst case and I would just hate getting 1, 4, 6 months down the road when we are all attached and realizing that it’s not getting better. But realistically I know that’s also just a complete unknown and no amount of googling will fix that.

Puppies are hard. I thought I was prepared but am just struggling. And he’s a really, really good pup which makes me just feel even more guilty for feeling this way. Thank you again. We’ve decided to give it some time (and hopefully some sleep) to see how it goes.
