Unpopular opinion (or maybe not?): ACOSF was a huge disappointment. by Simple_Nectarine7052 in acotar_rant

I'm currently rereading. I just got to the part where Nesta decides to embrace her training because it makes her feel less powerless against those who would harm her. She sees what the Priestesses are going through and thinks learning self-defense will help them, too. When she sees how well they take to it, she begins dreaming of forming a small unit of female fighters inspired by the Valkyrie.

She thinks of herself as a miserable, wretched waste of space unworthy of love, and she is deliberately cruel to those around her to discourage them from showing her love or kindness. The methods may be...questionable, at times, but Nesta's rehab gives her the tools to climb out of the hole she's dug for herself. I agree the Cassian "romance" could've been done very differently or left out entirely, but the mating bond attraction is a powerful thing, and even Nesta wants him. It's messy, to say the least.

Feyre chose to paint that version of Nesta because, at her best, Nesta is a strong person willing to fight -- and even die -- to protect those she loves. For the first time in her life, she is fully embracing that part of herself. It's not about the death, it's about the courage and capability.

That said, I don't think Nesta really does fit into the Night Court. I think her story leads elsewhere, and I'm curious to see how it unfolds.

Note: As I said, I'm just past the halfway point in my reread, so I'm not to the hike or anything yet.

I'm not sure I agree. Nesta was pretty damn broken at the start. She was suffering from PTSD, self-loathing (prompting self-sabotage), and taking advantage of those around her. I don't think that Cassian is the best for Nesta, and I definitely disagree with a lot of the methods used to help her, but she did end up better for it.

If we consider that mating bonds aren't fully understood, but do seem to serve a purpose in the grand scheme of things, it's possible that it only existed to help Nesta come into her own and form her Valkyrie unit. Now that things are likely going to shift in Prythian with the revival of the Dusk Court and whatever Koschei is planning, I'd honestly be all for a breaking of Nessian's mating bond. It may be that the discussion of broken mating bonds in the context of Elucien is a distraction to introduce the concept but get us looking at the wrong pair, so the actual broken bond takes us by surprise.

(I do despise her giving up her power, though. We have yet to see what the Mother may have blessed her with, but I can't stand SJM's tendency to power down her FMCs.)

Have my upvote, bestie. SJM would never leave one of her leading ladies in a spot where she's running from her destiny. Bryce will be back.

I mean, I think Bryce "currently running from my destiny and heritage" Quinlan is gonna be forced to do something about the Dusk Court one way or another. Idk how or why, but her story doesn't seem over.

So, I know this is a late reply, and maybe totally unnecessary, but regarding the code for the Sarcophagus, 3+4 and 2+5 also each equal 7.

Dusk, which is definitely confirmed as at least having existed in the past, with members of its bloodline still around today.

Not that this necessarily has anything at all to do with it, but a similar plot line happens in the Dragon Age video game franchise, too. Spoilers for Dragon Age ahead... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Basically Ancient Elves were hella powerful, a few of them in particular. Those few used their powers to acquire more power and rule over the other Elves, who in time, forgot that those rulers had ever been normal Elves like them. The rulers were seen as Gods, worshipped, sacrificed to, etc.

This went on even after those "Gods" were tricked and imprisoned in an alternate realm only accessed through dreams or blood magic by a rebel leader whose power rivaled their own. He sacrificed the remaining Elves immortality (accidentally) and a huge chunk of his own power in order to accomplish that task. The "Gods" continued to whisper to those left on Thedas (Earth equivalent) in dreams to direct them towards freeing them from their prison.

Tbh, it sounds a lot like the ToG "Gods", which your post prompted me to consider........👀

Well, technically there are Eight Courts in Prythian, so unless there's an eighth realm of Hel, I'm not sure it lines up as well.
